GOD'S GALLERY

In my wallet, I carry pictures. Pictures of people like my grandson, and my daughter. I don't have a picture of my son small enough to fit, and my three-week old granddaughter---I don't have any pictures of her yet. Pictures are great. When we want to show others the people who are really special to us, we can just whip out the ol' wallet and go through the gallery. Wouldn't it be neat if we could show them a picture of our heavenly Father, too? Since He's a Spirit, we can't of course.
But wait. Sure we can. WE are God's picture. We are how He shows the world what He looks like.
A huge responsibility. And exciting, too.

NO NAPS IN HEAVEN

Sometimes the world is so beautiful, I hate to go to sleep.
Especially in the summertime.
The sun rise is peach colored, with gold shimmering in it.
The day time is warm, with things growing every where, and butterflies, hummingbirds, ladybugs, etc.
The evening is warm is stars, stars, stars.
I think of Abraham being told to look at the stars. That's how big his family would be. And he didn't have any .
Oh, I forgot about the sunsets, rivaling any travel brochure trying to lure a person to an island get-away. Blue skies, with strips of fire across the sky.
I want to stay awake forever.
Hmmm...one more thing to look forward to in Heaven: no need for naps.

AN INTERESTING BIRTHDAY

I had an interesting birthday.
It was Saturday, August 16.
I refused to clean the whole house that day, and my 's father decided he would visit, for the first time in, oh, about six months, maybe longer. He's caught in a time warp, feeling like he still has some authority around here. And because he is my 's father, I give him respect.
Also, he's a likable enough guy. He just gets on my nerves sometimes.
Like on my birthday.
He came to where I was relaxing outside, and asked me why, why? did I keep my married name after I divorced my husband? When I told him why, he said my answers had some validity, but still, HE would have changed his name back.
And he turned to me and said, "You need some help with the housework around here. It's not getting done."
Well, for one thing, it was my birthday. You bet your bottom dollar it wasn't gonna get done. I had decided I was going to sit on my rump or dance my heart out, whatever I pleased---but I WASN'T going to do housework. I felt like I should have told him, "Well, take off your shirt. The mop's on the porch." But like I said, he's caught somewhere in limbo, trying to be our leader, and trying to avoid responsibility---all at the same time. When you think about it, that must take a lot of energy...and be pretty confusing at times, as well. So, I just told him, yup, I sure do. Between me being in a band, starting a new business, keeping the garden and yard up, and struggling with keeping walking, and my going to college, having hours of homework, and working week-ends in order to help with bills, it's not easy. He shook his head, moaning, saying, "Yep, you need some help!"
I noticed he didn't offer any.
Oh, well.
My didn't put the legs of the barbecuer down before he started the coals, so it melted halfway through thing it was sitting on before I realized what was going on. I closed it and called for a hot pad---not before burning my hands---and my , who came running, stepped on the grill I had taken out of the cooker, burning her foot. She's very expressive. She hollered. The neighbor came running. Like I said...interesting.
Ice works wonders. She was able to walk the next day, and I was able to play keyboard for church.
My brought my three-year old grandson over.
He's so sweet. But he's a real stinker. One of his favorite things that day was to pick up the sprinkler he was running through and spray me with it. Fortunately, I like that kind of thing.
The cats weren't crazy about it...
My gave me really neat gifts.
I got wood chimes that complete the feel of being on an island when I'm on my deck playing my congas.
I got a hummingbird feeder. I have crocosmia, jasmine and butterfly bush, but our hummingbirds are here year round, and I've been wanting a feeder for a long time.
And I got a bird bath. The hummingbirds that are now swarming my yard get upset if I don't have the sprinkler going for them to play in. They actually come and hover, staring at me. So I was really glad to get that birdbath.
And my yard is more Eden-like than ever, as I sit out by the grapevine, playing hymns on my keyboard.

The Car Lot

One day I was taking a stroll,
And saw a huge lot full of cars,
They were beautiful! My how they shone,
I bet you could see them from Mars.

I wandered onto the lot,
I was bored, nothing better to do,
And suddenly out of the sky,
Fell ten folks saying, “How do you do?!”

I’d never seen this before,
Alike in whatever they said,
And when they smiled, it seemed that their teeth,
Would meet at the back of their head.

I watched as they ran back and forth,
They reminded me somewhat of mice,
I thought, what would happen if I threw them some cheese?
But all I had with me was rice.

They kept showing cars, I’d say, “No”,
Then I got tired and left,
All I can figure is car salesmen must
Be terribly, terribly deaf.

Or maybe they’ve recently moved here,
From some other country I’d guess,
Because when I would say “No”,
They always thought I’d said “Yes”.

This doesn't really have any spiritual application I guess. I'm just feeling kinda weird. Again....

COMPUTER, I DON'T NEED YOU

Computer,
I don’t really need you,
I just don’t care if you’re there.
So why, when the screen can’t connect,
Do I find myself pulling my hair?

Before I had a computer
I got along just fine,
So why is it so crucial each day
That I spend all of this time?

I can’t go without checking email,
What if I got a letter?
Then I must write my replies,
From here it only gets better…

A friend needs to know where to buy something,
I can look that up I’m sure,
What is Scientology anyway?
Did I hear that cancer’s been cured?

What will the weather be like this week,
There’s some music I’d like to compose,
Oh, I forgot! There’s a date coming up,
I guess I should order some clothes.

Computer, I don’t really need you,
I know that it seems like I do,
But you got the wrong impression,
Sometimes that’s easy to do.

I realize the first thing I do
When I get out of my bed,
Is start you but just remember,
It’s like I already said----

I got along just fine without you,
If you “can’t connect” that’s okay,
After all, you aren’t my life,
I have a very full day.

I can go to the store and buy shoes,
Or fly a kite down the street,
The Girl Scouts are selling cookies,
Think I’ll go get a sweet treat.

A boat ride sounds like fun,
Maybe I’ll grow a plant,
I like to sit and watch nature,
I could go visit my aunt.

Oh, computer, forget that!
Come on! I’m down on my knees!
What do you want? New screensaver?
It’s yours!
Now connect!
Please!

THE CHOSEN ONE

We should be flooded with tomatoes right now.
The gardeners around here love to grow tomatoes, some for the flavor, some just because it's fun.

But this year, the vegies just aren't coming on.
The Colony Collapse Disorder, with bees disappearing from hives, has gardens collapsing all over the place. Some bee keepers report 30-90 percent of the bees haven't returned to the hives.

So I've been outside, choosing a flower on a plant that looks promising, picking it, opening it, and spreading the pollen from that flower around to the other flowers on the same plant.
Hand pollenating.

And guess what?

I've got tomatoes!

A silly thing to be excited about, but in a year when there aren't many bees, and I'm new at this hand-pollenation stuff, I have to admit that I'm kind of happy.

Kind of happy?

Ha! I'm thrilled out of my gourd. (Whatever that means.)

It also got me thinking about how God might choose us for the gifts He chooses to give each one.
I go carefully through the plants, looking for the flower that is suitable for the task at hand, then carefully and gently use that flower to achieve growth.
Well, I'm careful and gentle with the other flowers. The flower that I choose gets picked, gets its petals pulled apart, then has to go all over the place, doing what's necessary.
If that flower could talk, would it gripe?
Or would it thank me for the privilege of helping?

Thanks for the prayers

Thank you to the people who prayed for me about the song I was to sing at church.
I got to practice after asking for prayer, and Patrick said, "Don't worry about the rhythm, I'll follow you."
I had been a wreck, trying to follow the music exactly, while still saying what needed to be said.
I prayed, too. That God would use the music to do whatever needed to be done in people's hearts.

And I was surprised at how many people said they were very touched. I heard stories after singing about things people have been going through, and God is still with them.

Again, thanks for the prayers.

And by the way---God, you did a great job.Thanks.

Some days I stand outside and look around me at the beautiful things growing. Then, I hear the music.
The birds start, with their happy songs. The squirrels and chipmunks join in, with a sound like an organic kalimba.
The woodpeckers keep a beat while the breeze whispers through the branches of the trees.
I can hear water cascading in my neighbor's fountain. And a humingbird comes up to me, buzzing and squeaking.
I hear all this music, I feel the sun on my face, and I feel the urge---to dance.
To dance and sing about God's greatness.

But, since I'd rather not go home with the men in the white coats, I just sing a verse of "How Great Thou Art" and thank God for the magnificence around me. After that, I think about Heaven, and the sights and sounds we haven't even imagined yet.

Then I sit in my chair, smell the wonderful smells, and doze.

Ahhh...this is the life.

ENOUGH ! !

Some people are getting upset with each other.

No, I mean REALLY upset.

Here, in the blogs.

Calling each other names.
Insulting each other.
etc.

Then others come on and declare those "bad" people unsaved.

Now it's my turn.

ahem...(clearing my throat. Straightening my collar. Looking them in the eye.)

KNOCK IT OFF YOU GUYS

First, if someone is going to be rude, let's pray for them, then wait while God works.

Second, it isn't for one of us to declare whether another person is saved or not on the basis of some interactions in blogs.

Third, calm down! We aren't the ones who are changing people. God does the changing. We extend love. His love. If the person won't behave decently toward us, we walk away. We don't need to present the world with a carnival act of "Christians Behaving Badly".

Okay. I said my piece. I'm done.

FAITH IN ACTION

I just got back from worship team.
Patrick, the leader asked to bring me home because he wanted to talk to me.
In the church I grew up in, when one of the ministers said they needed to talk to you---you braced yourself. You were in trouble. Negativity was how things were done.
But Patrick just informed me that at Tremont (the church I attend) they believe faith should have action. Then, after beating around the bush a little more, he informed me that they had purchased the bike I've been drooling over.
Since my car accident, I don't drive. The church isn't that far away. I hate depending on others all the time for rides; I feel I'm imposing. So I wanted this bike.
And three families in the church heard about it, got together, and bought it for me. It has been ordered, and will be here in about a week.
Is that great, or what?
I was so pleased, I couldn't talk. Patrick seemed to find it especially funny when I told him he had found a way to make me speechless. Hmmm.....

This is to help everyone who has the weakness of procrastination. You know, putting things off, when they really should be getting done now.

Feel free to print this up and carry it in your pocket, your wallet, your purse, wherever.

Then, when someone asks you whether you are working on something, you can never again say:

"I haven't got around to it."
