Teach Me to Love

by Louise Knight Wheatley

There was a time when in my daily prayer
I asked for all the things I deemed most fair,
And necessary to my life -- success,
Riches, of course, and ease, and happiness;
A host of friends, a home without alloy;
A primrose path of luxury and joy,
Social distinction, and enough of fame
To leave behind a well-remembered name.
Ambition ruled my life. I longed to do
Great things, that all my little world might view
And whisper, "Wonderful!"

Ah, patient God,

How blind we are, until Thy shepard's rod
Of tender chastening gently leads us on
To better things!
Today I have but one
Petition, Lord -- Teach me to love.
Indeed, It is my greatest and my only need --
Teach me to love, not those who first love me,
But all the world, with that rare purity
Of broad, outreaching thought which bears no trace
Of earthly taint, but holds in its embrace
Humanity, and only seems to see
The good in all, reflected, Lord, from Thee.
And teach me, Father, how to love the most
Those who most stand in need of love -- that host
Of people who are sick and poor and bad,
Whose tired faces show their lives are sad,
Who toil along the road with footsteps slow,
And hearts more heavy than the world can know --
People whom others pass discreetly by,
Or fail to hear the pleading of that cry
For help, amid the tumult of the crowd;
Whose very anguish makes them cold and proud,
Resentful, stubborn, bitter in their grief --
I want to bring them comfort and relief,
To put my hand in theirs, and at their side
Walk softly on, a faithful, fearless guide.
O Saviour, thou the Christ, Truth, ever near,
Help me to feel these sad ones doubly dear
Because they need so much! Help me to seek
And find that which they thought was lost; to peak

Such words of cheer that as we pass along
The wilderness shall blossom into song.
Ah, Love divine, how empty was that prayer
Of other days! That which was once so fair --
Those flimsy baubles which the world calls joys
Are nothing to me now but broken toys,
Outlived, outgrown. I thank Thee that I know
Those much-desired dreams of long ago,
Like butterflies, have had their summer's day
Of brief enchantment and have gone. I pray
For better things.

Thou knowest, God above,
My one desire now --Teach me to love.

Cry
cry for our world
cry
our world will die!
And we all feel it
but we don't change it.
Our world will die!

I feel the end
I feel the end of your world

I feel the end
I feel the end of our time

Of our time.

Do you remember the days warm and trembling with joy
And the birds in the sky; winter
summer passed by

Do you remember?

Cry
cry for our world
cry
our world will die! . . .

(Lynn, I hope you do not mind borrowing this. Please let me know if it is a problem.)

I borrowed this from the bible study group.

How to play:
1-Quote the previous question asked by the other person

2-Answer it with one verse

Then ask a question for the next person to answer.

So,I'm going to pretend that this following question was asked previously, since this is the beginning of the game.I will answer it,then asked another for anyone of you to respond to...

Q-Why was the first woman called Eve?

A-Genesis 3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve,because she was the mother of all living.

Q-What happened to Enoch?

I just cannot get past this phrase. It is quoted by Nick Vujicic on which I posted Next time you think your life is difficult .

The ONLY FEAR IN LIFE IS THAT I FORGET HOW GOD HAS LED ME IN THE PAST!

It scares me how often I forget when faced with a challenge.

My God has always been there, is there now, and will be there in the future.

My name is Nick Vujicic and I was born without limbs and doctors have no medical explanation for this birth 'defect'. As you can imagine, I was faced with many challenges and obstacles.
Their firstborn had been born without limbs! There were no warnings or time to prepare themselves for it. The doctors were shocked and had no answers at all! There is still no medical reason why this had happened and Nick now has a Brother and Sister who were born just like any other baby.

I know that there is no such thing as luck, chance or coincidence that these 'bad' things happen in our life.

I had complete peace knowing that God won't let anything happen to us in our life unless God has a good purpose for it all.

I am now twenty-three years old and have completed a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Financial Planning and Accounting. I am also a motivational speaker and love to go out and share my story and testimony wherever opportunities become available. I have developed talks to relate to and encourage students through topics that challenge today's teenagers. I am also a speaker in the corporate sector.

I have a passion for reaching out to youth and keep myself available for whatever God wants me to do, and wherever He leads, I follow.
Writing several best-selling books has been one of my dreams and I hope to finish writing my first by the end of the year.

It will be called 'No Arms, No Legs, No Worries!'

I believe that if you have the desire and passion to do something, and if it's God's will, you will achieve it in good time. As humans, we continually put limits on ourselves for no reason at all! What's worse is putting limits on God who can do all things. We put God in a 'box'. The awesome thing about the Power of God, is that if we want to do something for God, instead of focusing on our capability, concentrate on our availability for we know that it is God through us and we can't do anything without God. Once we make ourselves available for God's work, guess whose capabilities we rely on? God's!

The ONLY FEAR IN LIFE IS THAT I FORGET HOW GOD HAS LED ME IN THE PAST!

And remember: WHEN YOU'RE BUSY JUDGING PEOPLE,YOU HAVE NO TIME TO LOVE THEM.

Mean Moms

Someday when my are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them, as my Mean Mom told me:

I loved you enough . . . to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home.

I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend was a creep.

I loved you enough to make you go pay for the bubble gum you had taken and tell the clerk, "I stole this yesterday and want to pay for it."

I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in my eyes. must learn that their parents aren't perfect.

I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart.

But most of all, I loved you enough, to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it.

Those were the most difficult battles of all. I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too.

And someday when your are old enough to understand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them.

Was your Mom mean? I know mine was. We had the meanest mother in the whole world! While other ate candy for breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast. When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches. And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was different from what other had, too.

Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. You'd think we were convicts in a prison.

She had to know who our friends were, and what we were doing with them. She insisted that if we said we would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less.

We were ashamed to admit it, but she had the nerve to break the Labor Laws by making us work. We had to wash the dishes, make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry, empty the trash and all sorts of cruel jobs. I think she would lie awake at night thinking of more things for us to do.

She always insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

By the time we were teenagers, she could read our minds and had eyes in the back of her head. Then, life was really tough!

Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up. They had to come up to the door so she could meet them. While everyone else could date when they were 12 or 13, we had to wait until we were 16.

Because of our mother we missed out on lots of things other experienced. None of us have ever been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's property or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault.

Now that we have left home, we are all educated, honest adults. We are doing our best to be mean parents just like Mom was.

I think that is what's wrong with the world today.

It just doesn't have enough mean moms!

"FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT WITH FAITH, UNITY, AND HIGH PRAISE!"

Recently during worship, I heard, "Fight the good fight of faith." It is a "fight" indeed! If we merely look at things with our natural eyes, we will most certainly get a distorted view. Things are not always as they appear. God is always at work in our situations. He is working on our family members, finances, health issues, heart issues, forgiveness issues, and everything else that pertains to our lives. He is preparing things for us, and preparing us for things we have never seen or experienced before.

As we have entered into a new Spiritual level, we have also entered into new levels of warfare. All of us, who love God, must live by our faith and right now, our faith muscles need to be strengthened like never before. Paul tells us that we are to be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that our labor is not in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:5. The word "steadfast" literally means "firmly loyal or constant; unswerving."

God's Secret Weapon: "High Praise"

Radical praise is radical warfare with radical results. Unified praise is a powerful spiritual bomb that shatters wicked plans and strategies. When we come together in praise, we are fighting on a higher level. When this happens, we don't get tired because we're not fighting in our own
strength. We actually get strong and refreshed.

Radical, unified praise creates an atmosphere where God dwells; and when God arises, His enemies scatter. This praise brings us before the throne of God where joy becomes our strength. Our perspectives change in high
praise and worship. Our views change about our circumstances and one another. It is a Spirit connection where our hearts are joined and we
become as one, like Jesus and God are one, as Jesus prayed that for us in John 17.

When we are unified in worship, the enemies that war against us are set to flight. It is like creating this invisible shield in the Spirit realm, where things can't threaten us or affect us any longer. Things that seemed impossible from an earthly view are now entirely possible as we breathe in the majesty of our King. His love for us and His ability to take care of things is convincing, as we surrender our futile efforts to change things that God is already in control of.

As we stand in awe during worship, declarations of prophecy and new songs are released, and spiritual hindrances loose their grip giving way to victory. Prophetic words are released from Heaven, creating change on the earth. According to Psalms 149, these words that come during high praise actually execute vengeance on our enemies, punishment on people, bind kings and authorities in chains, and send forth written judgments that shatter their plans and their destructive schemes. And this Psalm further states that it is our "honor" because we are saints of the Most High God.
Now THAT is victory.

Psalms 149

"Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, And His praise in the assembly of saints. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; Let the of Zion be joyful in their King. Let them praise His name with the dance; Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp. For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation."

"Let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, And a two-edged sword in their hand, To execute vengeance on the nations, And punishments on the peoples; To bind their kings with chains, And their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute on them the written judgment--This honor have all His saints. Praise the Lord!"

This action of unified high praise releases God's authority and Kingdom on this earth, accomplishing His will in our nation, families, cities, regions, circumstances, and everything that touches our lives.

We Need Each Other

Knowing that each body part supplies strength to the whole body, we cannot afford to separate ourselves from each other. The unified place where commanded blessing from God exists--cannot be ignored in this hour.

God has a wardrobe of things we should dress in. As we examine this closet, we will see ourselves look totally different and others look different too.

There are Great "Put On's" in God's Closet:

Colossians 3:12-17, "Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do."

"But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were
called in one body; and be thankful."

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."

1 John 4:20, says that if we can't love our brother who we can see, how can we love God who we can't see?; and Hebrews 10:25 says to "not
forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day
approaching."

The Shofar is Being Blown

1 Corinthians 1:10, "Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same
mind and in the same judgment."

Like in Nehemiah's day in the rebuilding of the wall, it's time to assemble and worship and war, arm in arm, with the same purpose, same heart, same mind, honoring the same Lord, who is the God and Father of us all.

Knowing that the days are short and there is much to be done, we will see great victories as we do things God's way and advance forward. OUR GOD IS FIGHTING FOR US.

Nehemiah 4:20, "Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us."

Come on, people now, Smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now.

Harsh words break no bones but they do break hearts.

Love is the only thing that can be divided without being diminished.

Do what you can, for whom you can, with what you have, and where you are.

TREAT EVERYONE WITH POLITENESS
EVEN THOSE WHO ARE RUDE TO YOU,
NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT NICE
BUT BECAUSE YOU ARE NICE..
