Had enough?!!

I had one of those "had enough" moments with my young adult but still irresponsible last night.

Sometimes I feel like I'm running a half-way house. I have sons that are half way between acting like teenagers and acting like adults. I guess I've come home one too many times to cleaning up their dishes and pots and pans and glasses piled high in the sink. I guess I've looked into their rooms long enough wondering where that smell is coming from and seeing food wrappers and dirty clothes strewn on the floor.

So...I said...ENOUGH!

I typed up some very basic house rules (which were always known but, never actually posted and certainly never enforced!) I put warnings on them like: "I can live without satellite TV, can you?" I put stop sign flyers on the wall in their bedroom and bathroom reminding them to stop before leaving the house or going to bed to make sure the rules were followed. I encouraged them to build time into their getting-ready-to- go-time to do some of these simple pick-up routines. I told them there would be daily inspections.

I just want a civilized life. I just like order. Really simple stuff, in my humble opinion...like hanging up wet towels, putting dirty clothes in the hamper and putting clean clothes in the closet and cleaning up any mess they make in the kitchen. Nothing hard, nothing complicated. They did these things when they were little to get brownie points and get to do things. What happened to those little boys when they got big?

Pray for my sanity. This returning to the nest thing is not easy for me...

Phones in Church

A friend of mine at church sent me this cute story and I wanted to share it with my friends here...keep smiling

A man in Topeka , Kansas decided to write a book about churches around the country. He started by flying to San Francisco and started working east from there. Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and making notes.

He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued with a sign, which read "Calls: $10,000 a minute." Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone and the sign. The pastor answered that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to heaven and if he pays the price he can talk directly to GOD.

The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to visit churches in Seattle , Denver , St. Louis , Chicago , Milwaukee, and around the United States , he found more phones, with the same sign, and the same answer from each pastor.

Finally, he arrived in Georgia. Upon entering a church in Georgia, behold - he saw the usual golden telephone. But THIS time, the sign read "Calls: 35 cents."

Fascinated, he asked to talk to the pastor, "I have been in cities all across the country and in each church I have found this golden telephone and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to GOD, but in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads only 35 cents a call. Why?"

I love this part.....................The pastor, smiling benignly, replied, ", you're in the South now. You're in God's Country, It's a local call."

Dreams

I woke up this morning from some of the strangest dreams...granted I have been a little sick to my stomach lately, so maybe this impacted my dreams too.

But, how much do you take stock in your dreams you have at night? Daniel interpreted dreams, Joseph dreamed about his future and interpreted dreams of the Pharoh, Joseph was warned in a dream to take Jesus and Mary and hide out in Eygpt and after Herod died he was given another dream that it was safe to leave Eygpt, even the Magi were warned in a dream not to return to Herod.

Do you think our dreams could be a way for God to communicated with us? Or is it just a way for our subconscience to work out things we think about, like what many doctors might say?

What do you think?

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson went on a camping trip. After a good meal and a bottle of wine they lay down for the night, and went to sleep. Some hours later, Holmes awoke and nudged his faithful friend awake. "Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see."

Watson replied, "I see millions and millions of stars."

"What does that tell you?" Holmes questioned.

Watson pondered for a minute. "Astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo. Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful and that we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you?"

Holmes was silent for a minute, then spoke. "Watson, you idiot. Someone has stolen our tent."

This joke is funny to me because I understand Watson. Sometimes I, like Watson, can get so wrapped up in the mysterious, the deep thinking, that I fail to see the obvious. Lord, don't let my desire for more knowledge interrupt my common sense.

Waiting

Waiting for God is not easy. Often it seems that He isn't answering our prayers or doesn't understand the urgency of our situation. That kind of thinking implies that God is not in control or is not fair. But, God is worth waiting for. God uses waiting to refresh, renew, and teach us. Make good use of your waiting times by discovering what God may be trying to teach you in them.

Psalm 27: 13-14
I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Lamentations 3:24-27
I say to myself, The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him; to the one who seeks Him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

David and Jeremiah provide excellent examples of how to wait on the Lord.

I feel I am waiting now too. While there is much hope in my heart and gratitude too, I still wait knowing I will not be in this "situation" forever. I am blessed to be here...waiting.

What If

I was coming home from work with my car radio cranked up and I was singing this song along with the composer...it was such a relief to hear and sing...God is good!

What If - by Jadon Lavik

What if I climbed that mountain? What if I swam to that shore?
What if every battle was victorious? Then would You love me more?
Would You love me more?
What if I were everyone's first choice? What if I went farther than before?
What if I stood high above the rest? Then would You love me more?
Would You love me more?

You say I belong to You, apart from the things I do
You say I belong to You, I'm in awe of why You do
Why You do, why You do, I'm in awe of You, ooh

What if I ignored the hand that fed me? What if I forgot to confess?
What if I stumbled down that mountain? Then would You love me less?
Lord, would You love me less?

What if I were everyone's last choice? What if I mixed in with the rest?
What if I failed what I passed before? Then would You love me less?
Lord, would You, would You love me less, oh no, oh no, oh no

You say I belong to You, apart from the things I do
You say I belong to You, I'm in awe of why You do
You do, You do, You do

What have I done to deserve your sent to die for me?
What can I give? I want to live, give me eyes to see
In a world that keeps changin' there's one thing that I know is true
Your love is stayin', there's nothing else I'll hold onto

You say I belong to You, apart from the things I do
You say I belong to You, I'm in awe of why You do
Why You do

You say I belong to You, apart from the things I do
You say I belong to You, I'm in awe of why You do
I'm in awe of You, I'm in awe of You

The way You love me, the way You do
The way You do , the way You love me, You love me, You love me
The way You do, the way You do, the way You love me,
the way You love, You love, You love

Thoughts from the bedside table drawer

God cannot be compartmentalized into a place or a time of day
He is within me,
He is around me,
He is a kind word from a friend
He is the smile on the face of a stranger
He is the laughter of a
He is the tug of my heart when I see past the pain in other's stories
He is the joy in deepening relationships
He is the satisfaction of my soul

He is love
He is patience
He is goodness
He is strength

I have no needs but for the need of Him
I have no request that could serve me as well but to seek His will
In dying to self will I live in His will
By letting go, I soar
His will is my purpose
His will is my obedient devotion

I want to love more deeply
I want to see beyond myself
I want to hear beyond the pain
I want to know the needs of his , his people
I trust in His direction
I am comforted by His revelations
I owe all my insight, growth and strength to Him and Him alone

Life is busy, God is still
Life is competitive and hurried, God says wait
Calmness envelopes me now
Even though my weaknesses are known
My thoughts are focused on His strength.

Devotional material that had an impact on me in the way it described a solution or a way of thinking about a problem I have encountered...

The Upper Room - June 16th 2005
Our job as Christians is to give God what we have, however inadequate our offering may seem and to trust God to do the rest.

My Utmost For His Highest - June 16th 2005
Salvation is easy for us, because it cost God so much. But, the exhibiting of salvation is difficult. God saves a person, fills him with the Holy Spirit and then says, in effect, "Now you work it out in your life, and be faithful to Me even though the nature of everything around you is to cause you to be unfaithful." And Jesus says to us, "...I have called you friends..." Remain faithful to your Friend and remember that His honor is at stake in your bodily life.

Lord, Your Love Has Called Us Here

Lord God, Your Love Has Called Us Here

Lord God, your love has called us here, as we, by love, for love were made; your living likeness still we bear, though marred, dishonored, disobeyed; we come, with all our heart and mind, your call to hear, your love to find.

We come with self inflicted pains of broken trust and chosen wrong, half-free, half-bound by inner chains, by social forces swept along, by powers and systems close confined, yet seeking hope for humankind.

Lord God, in Christ you call our name, and then receive us as your own; not through some merit, right, or claim, but by your gracious love alone; we strain to glimpse your mercy seat, and find you kneeling at our feet.

Then take the towel, and break the bread, and humble us, and call us friends; suffer and serve till all are fed, and show how grandly love intends to work till all creation sings, to fill all worlds, to crown all things.

Lord God, in Christ you set us free your life to live, your joy to share; give us your Spirit's liberty to turn from guilt and dull despair, and offer all that faith can do, while love is making all things new.

Words to hymn by: Brian Wren 1973
