This is our first "real snow" this season. We have a whopping 4" or so on the ground...and its going to last through the day! All the previous winter weather has been freezing rain and ice.
The boys have friends over and they are riding ATVs and sledding.
I have the crud, been on anti-biotics for four days, so I'm watching from the house.
Oh to be young again! I've finally reached that age that I can say, "what don't hurt, don't work" LOL
Hope you all are having a blessed day.

I was blessed to be able to lead Adult Bible study at my home church tonight...only a few open seats...yes, on a Wednesday night! It is always a privilege to teach or preach at the church I pastored for 14 years. I will be back there March 16th for two services.
I had some skin lesions removed the other day...non cancerous...Praise the Lord!!!
Still awaiting word on three different jobs. Suppose to get an update on one the 7th. Another will be making decisions by the end of April and yet another I can't start until June 4th due to a non-compete with my former employer.
Been feeling tired and ran down lately...and my life has not been this "laid back" in 20+ years. I guess its old age? I appreciate your prayers.
Hope all you BCer's are doing well...

Repentance...continued

In my neck of the woods there are two churches named Friendship Baptist Church and one named Fellowship Baptist Church - but there are none named Repentance Baptist Church...
Isn't that funny, (not ha ha funny), that the imperative message of the Bible is "too offensive" to be used in the naming of our churches?
Just the word, repent, sends many non-believers and believers alike into "orbit". Why? Because we don't fully understand it, or it's significance.
The Hebrew translated repent is shub. It actually means to change from the wrong path to the right path. Now that's a good thing. If I'm on the wrong road, I want to get on the right road. Don't you?
The Greek word translated repent is metanoia. Meta means to transform, change while noia means mind. Transform, or change our mind - from wrong thinking to right thinking!
There is repentance that brings for salvation and then there is repentance in the believers life. As believers grow in the Lord, we learn - and turn to the right path and change our way of thinking.
Romans 12:2 explains repentance in a believers life by saying, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
As we learn more about Him, we realize more that has to be changed in us...transformation.
Aren't you glad God allows u-turns and do-overs? I think its called repentance.

The original words to the hymn written by Isaac Watts said:
Alas, and did my Savior bleed, And did my Sovereign die? Would He devote that sacred head For such a worm as I?
I noted in a song book that the last line has been "updated" to: For a sinner such as I?
I suppose it wasn't "seeker friendly" to be calling people worms! I wonder if the next "update" will be: For victims such as I?
You know, the excuse for sin that has been used since the Garden of Eden when Adam said, "The woman You gave to be with me gave me the fruit". Our sin is always somebody else's fault, right?
The gospel message is one of repentance. Jesus preached repentance (Matthew 4:17). Peter preached repentance at Pentecost (Acts 2:38 )
Without admitting we are sinners, the is no repentance. Without repentance, there is no forgiveness of sin.
Maybe we need some old fashioned preaching on sin today! The old time preacher was asked, "what are you preaching on today?" His response? "Sin, and I'm against it!"
Has this warm and fuzzy, feel good, politically correct, watered down gospel created a church that is a mile wide and only an inch deep?
Repentance...more to come later...

Everytime there is a forecast for snow, ice, freezing rain, etc., there is a mad rush to the grocery store.
The result is the grocery store sells out of milk, bread and eggs. Everything else is in ample supply, and this happens EVERY time.
WHY?
What are they going to do, make french toast?

Bah humbug! It snowed about 2" here in Western Kentucky last night. The church I was scheduled to preach at cancelled services, so I was looking forward to attending my home church...they cancelled services...so I cooked a big breakfast and we are going to watch movies today...
I don't know what would happen if a real snow fell here...

We haven't lost power this time - yet! The ice accumulation on power lines and trees is not as heavy, but the accumulation on the roads is worse this go around.
My boys played ice basketball in the driveway - rather funny to watch. They didn't stay out long before coming in to warm up.

Had a wonderful time with my boys this weekend in Chicago. Made it home last night around 8. It was non-stop...either this will keep me young or kill me...haven't decided which one yet!
How's all my BC friends doing?
