Saying goodbye...

...does it ever become easier? My former Mother-in-law picked up the boys a few hours ago to take them to their Mom. The first thirty minutes were good...whew, they are gone. I can get some things done...
Then, reality settles in...this big ole house, normally filled with youthful noise and activity becomes a quiet, cavernous cell. I know they will be home after school Monday, but in the mean time a sad realization settles in...
In a few years, they will be grown and gone...instead of every other weekend of aloneness, it will be every day...makes me want to enjoy every minute spent cooking, cleaning, doing laundry...did I just say that???
Hope all my BC friends have a great weekend...if anyone is in my neck of the woods, stop by for a cup of coffee!

Don really wanted to ask this girl to marry him. After getting the courage up, he phoned her and sheepishly asked, "Linda?"
She responded, "Yes, this is Linda."
"Will you marry me?" asked Don.
Linda replied, "Of course I will! Who is this?"

I found out today that I am one of four finalists for a job opportunity. There next step in the process is a telephone interview. This step will reduce the number of candidates granted an on-site interview. My telephone interview is not scheduled yet, but I would appreciate BC's prayers!

Killing a lion on a snowy day...

And Benaiah the of Jehoiada was a valiant man of Kabzeel, a doer of great deeds; he smote two ariels of Moab. He also went down and slew a lion in a pit on a day when snow had fallen. And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits tall. The Egyptian had in his hand a spear like a weaver's beam; but Benaiah went down to him with a staff, and snatched the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear. These things did Benaiah the of Jehoiada, and won a name beside the three mighty men. He was renowned among the thirty, but did not attain to the three. And David set him over his bodyguard. (1 Chronicles 11:22-25)
Benaiah, the of Jehoiada, was a valiant man. Are you? These verses tell us about three victories in Benaiah's life.
1. Two ariels of Moab - Recall Lot being made drunk by his two daughters and fathering a with each? One was Ammon the other Moab. The generations of Moab lived beside Israel, but was always at war with them. They were related, yet enemies. We have an enemy that is related to us that we must defeat...it is called the flesh, the old man.
2. A lion in a pit on a snowy day - this enemy is obvious. "Satan, like a might lion, roams to and fro seeking whom he may devour" Notice where Benaiah defeated this enemy...in a pit, a place with no easy escape, in treacherous, snowy conditions. Satan attacks when and where we are most vulnerable...seeking whom he may devour. "Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."
3. An Egyptian, a man of great stature - Egypt is a reference to another enemy of the believer; the world. The world will try to draw us away with its fleshly enticements. "Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - is not of the Father, but is of the world.
We must be valiant men and women too. We must be victorious in these three battles in our lives.
Here's something to remember from this story... Jehoiada means "God knows," and Benaiah means "God builds."
God knows what you are going through, He knows where you are...after all, He put you there.
Why? Because God builds! He has a purpose for your life battles and struggles...and that is to build you, to make you more like Jesus!
God knows. God builds.

Thankful

In my devotional time the other day, I was reading Psalm 92 and found several things to be thankful for. (You might want to open your Bible and follow along as you read this)
1. I'm thankful for God's attributes (v.2)
* His lovingkindness
* His faithfulness
2. I'm thankful for God's work (v.4,5)
* His works make me glad
* His works are great
(how loving and patient He must be, He's still working on me)
3. I'm thankful for God's blessings (v. 10-15)
* He exalts me (v.10)
* He annoints me (v.10)
* He flourishes (blesses) me (v. 12,13,14)
