The Impact Of Obama’s Policies On Business
By Rob on February 26, 2008

This article is talking about how Barack Obama’s proposed policies will impact those who run law firms, but the impact of those policies will effect business owners as well.

You don’t have to be a lawyer, or run a law firm, to feel the crunch from hiked taxes and expanded government spending.

We all know that Obama wants to end the Bush tax cuts. That is a 3% bump across the board to the bad old days when associates faced a marginal federal tax rate of 36%.

But the real hidden tax is that Obama plans to end the social-security tax cap. Right now, you may notice, sometime during the summer or early fall, your take-home pay suddenly goes up because they stop deducting FICA. Current law caps social security taxes: in 2008, the cap is at $102,000. Obama proposes to abolish this. That mid-summer bump will be no more: add about several thousand dollars to your annual tax bill.

But social-security taxes are not only on employees. The government also charges 6.2% to employers that you never see on your W-2s. But rest assured the partners see this, and will notice that the expense of keeping an associate has risen several thousand dollars a year when FICA taxes double and triple. Will they swallow that additional expense, or take it out of your bonus?

Read the whole thing.

I think a lot of people who want to see government increase spending and take on new projects forget that someone has to pay for it, and the people who do pay for it are usually the ones who sign our paychecks. When government begins burdening businesses and, yes, “the rich” with excessive taxation that money still comes out of our bottom line. It means less money available to hire new employees or give new raises/benefits to existing employees.

The liberal solution to that problem is to mandate higher wages and benefits (minimum wage laws, etc.), but ultimately that just makes things worse.

The real solution is to downsize government to only its most basic and necessary functions so that businesses are free to grow. Which, in turn, means more jobs and more pay for the rest of us.

The effect is enormous. Betsy’s marginal tax rate goes up from an already ridiculous 42.5% to 51.4%–not including the new 6.2% marginal tax on your employer. Subject to how she structures her withholding, Betsy’s take home pay drops an average of $515 a paycheck–less in the early months of the year, but much more in the later months of the year. Add in the effects on her bonus, and Betsy loses nearly $20,000/year in take-home pay.

I added a third column: how big a pay cut would you have to take to receive the same take-home income? The answer is that Obama’s tax increases have a bigger effect on your income than a law firm cutting New York salaries by $34,000.

Now, money isn’t everything. A BigLaw associate, who is already handsomely paid, might find it worthwhile to take the equivalent of a $34,000/year paycut to have Barack Obama as president instead of John McCain; how else will we guarantee more Obamagirl videos? But given the hue and cry seen on Above the Law and XOXOHTH over salary fluctuations that are a fraction of that size, BigLaw associates may want to fully consider the effect of the candidates’ tax plans on their economic well-being. If you’re willing to reject a law firm over a few thousand dollars, how much money would sway your presidential vote and campaign contributions?

Wright taught hatred toward whites is not Christian.

Obama in his speech twisted words for his own advantage to making the same old “blame whitey” claims for his perceived race problems in the U.S.

As if whitey forced many blacks to become amoral and destructive? Could it be that the real motivators for black amorality and hatred is the type of churches leaders that many choose to go listen to and be brainwashed? Churches led by evil people like Mr.Wright (no Rev. deserved). Churches that teach hate, Marxism and that take anti American and anti biblical viewpoints on every issue. Churches that are really racists Marxist cults and do not preach a biblical Jesus Christ at all. Is it any wonder why Jesus is not the answer for too many in black America. Many never knew Him.

brief for Whitey

Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America? Is it really white America’s fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent? Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?

As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence.

Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?

Is Barack aware that black-on-white are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse?

about a Church that speaks hatred towards its heros

about a Church that hates people because of people's skin color

about any man that condones it and writes in books his agreement

but then I wonder what Jesus thinks about his own people that blindly accepts lies when we are continually warned tho judge a righteous judgement about things

and later by Paul are warned time and time again

I wonder why he told us in parables about the talents, about how it was considered evil to not use the talent to expand with it.

so we dont use our minds and we listen to false prophets

its as old as moses as they chose Idols when Moses was gone to get the ten commandments

now here it is Easter Snday and we are doing the same thing again

we continue to listen to televangelsists that have their million dollar homes that take money from people who have next to nothing, while promising the world everything if they just do what they are being told

same as that politician

they both want you to think they are wiser and more annointed, and that they know what is best for you

So are you stupid? Or do you realize how bad all of this is?

What a disaster of a man. What a liar. A week ago he publicly denies ever being present when his Pastor made inflamatory speeches. Kinda strange since he talks about and embraces that stuff in his books isnt it? It is in his books.

Well this week he says he was indeed present and that he disagreed with the speeches. hasnt he read his own books? Doesnt he remember what he wrote in his books? Sure he does. He will get smeared over this.

He is the most liberal voting senator of 2007 which is a very bad thing. I have left a few Churches in my day and it was over what was coming out of the pulpit. Why? Because it mattered to me what my family sat under.

This man has sat under 20 years of the black bastard religion that is all about racist hatred of the country and white people and you want to tell me that he doesnt agree with it? If he doesnt agree with it, why would he want his family listening to it? 20 years he has listened. He tried to hide it when he told his Pastor not to come to his celebration.

Listen to his wife. She hasnt been proud of America until now when her husband, the least qualified candidate in US History is leading in the Democratic Party. No, that was not out of context. That is how she feels. Why is it her salary doubled when he became Senator? That is presently under investigation.

The next big aspect is this. What has he accomplished? What has he done as a Senator? Not suprisingly, nothing.

He threw his Pastor under the bus. But yet he associates with him and quotes him in books.

He has the neew black panthers on his website. That was noticed and I do not know if it was up there any longer.

Communist groups all over the world endorse him. That should scare you.

He speaks UNity? And he is so divisive himself. How can a rasist that associates himself with other racists, write about racism and hate whites bring unity? Tell me. Yeah.... its not possible.

In the past few years I have had some classmates die. I guess that is somewhat expected. We had hit the 50 plateau. When you hit 45, every 5 years you can look back and see many changes. People's parents dying. Some classmates.

I think one of the harder things to see happen is younger people that you grew up with. In a years span two pretty kool guys I knew and coached both died of brain tumors. They both were in their mid 40's. Both had been very athletic and both left behind still in High School.

We always feel indestructable to a degree. But there comes a place when we feel fragile. We realize life is not a given. What we do have, the time we do...we need to be grateful for it. I think its a wrong attitude to just hate this life and cant wait for the life after.

There is a purpose here. Our family and friends do need us, and we need them.

My older brother is in his mid 60's. We have seen each other a handful of times in the past 30 years. He lives far away. I have no idea how long he will live. Our mom was but 52 and dad was 59. He has surpassed that. Good for him.

My younger half brother from my biological parents is dying. Hep C from a blood transfusion. On op of that his kidneys have shut down. Treatments 3 times a week. i have seen him maybe a dozen times in my life, and not since our biological fathers death in 2001.

But I have hope. Hope that the things I wish for the rest of my life come true. Mercy lost her sister on my birthday 2 years ago this april. She was only 42. Mercy and her were very close. She was the sister that raised her as her mom was working. It just leaves such an empty place in our hearts. But you cope and you go on.

words from people you love

Mom has been gone since november of 76. I can almost hear her say I love you of mine. Its amazing how we can relate a smell sometimes to a memory.

There are certain smells that remind me of good times spent with loved ones. But at the same time the smell of a hospital reminds me of losing my mom and dad while I was young to Cancer.

My dad was not a man of words. He was in the battle of the bulge. He suffered through the 17 years depression. If I told him I loved him, he would say "I Love you to". I always knew he loved me by his actions. But I still cherish, I love You too.

Its ok to be taken for granted if its how you really feel. I mean if you have to say everyday to the ones you love that you love them.

I dint say it enough to my . But he knows I love him. He has been my life for the past 10 years since Brenda left.

In the movie "A Walk to Remember".....I love the reconciliation scene between Landon and his father. Not a word said, but his fathers action of paying for Jamie to be at home and have care. What greater words could be said? It was the best that he could do. So beautiful.

Our need to hear what we already hear in side. Don't keep it in. Let it out. Don't live in the land of regret later.

You can hear appreciation in peoples words, just as they can in ours. Mercy says to me on the phone "I Love you So much" She also tells me that "You mean the whole world to me". I can tell by her tone that she means what she says.

I speak from my heart back to her. I loved her before I was in love with her. There are some people that you really respect because their heart never changes despite situations and what is going on in their lives. She is like that.

She also has the innocence in her heart. Its a great feeling when you think of a person and all of the positiveness comes out. Excitement, knowing you have this special connection.

Man I love this movie. To me it emphasizes people who get beyond themselves and throw themselves totally into life. The last 20 minutes of the movie always has me in tears.

Yet we are so selfish in life and we carry our hurts with us. I love a beautiful woman that has her innocence about her.

Someone that doesn't try to be perfect, and yet they believe there are absolutes in life.

I knew a girl. She was beautiful. She was the younger sister of a classmate. She died of Leukemia just a few weeks after she graduated back in 76. Wish I could remember her name. I can still remember her face. She received the Lord a few months before she died. That was a wonderful revelation. What a beautiful girl she was. A life interrupted by life.

Contemplative Spirituality...the Leaven

Contemplative Spirituality: A belief system that uses ancient mystical practices to induce altered states of consciousness (the silence) and is rooted in mysticism and the occult but often wrapped in Christian terminology. The premise of contemplative spirituality is pantheistic (God is all) and panentheistic (God is in all).
