Building A Life

A Very Old Carpenter was ready to retire and so he told his boss of his plans to leave and live a more leisurely life relaxing with his wife.
He would miss the paycheck, but he really was getting on in years and want to retire. They would get by somehow.

The contractor was sorry to see such a great worker go, and he asked the carpenter if he would build just one more house for him as a personal favor before he left for good.

The carpenter agreed but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to short cuts and shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way for such a talented man to end a dedicated career.

When the carpenter finally finished his work, the contractor came to inspect the house. He then handed the front-door keys to the carpenter. "This is your house," he said. "It is my gift to you."

The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, we would have done it all so differently.

So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building; then with shock we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it all over, we'd do it much differently. But we cannot go back.

We are the carpenters of our own lives. Each day we hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Our attitudes and choices that we make today are building our house for tomorrow. Let's build wisely.

FORGIVE

Forgive others, yourself and God; leave no unforgiveness issue unresolved.

NOT EVEN ONE
