I'll tell you the good stuff first..lol

2 nights ago, 2 friends of mine were heading out after work and asked me to join them. I declined. I'm super sociable but I just didn't feel like going home to change and stuff.
ANYWAY...they ended up going to Flemings, a higher end steak house where my -in-law had recently sent his resume. Turns out, one of the girls knows someone who works there and they met the manager. The manager picked up their tab. When she told me this..i said..CALL HIM!! lol

I told her that Kev is trying to get a job there and thats when she told me about her friend as well who's been there several years. Well...not 2 seconds later her friend called her to ask her status because the manager was interested in her. He had started the conversation with...''I have business to talk with you.'' lol She said no thanks and then said...''ok it's my turn, i have buisiness to talk with you'' And she proceeded to tell him about my in law and gave his name..etc and the guy asked what he does. I said he's a soux chef. The guys says...we're looking for a soux chef right now.

Sooooooooooooo..hopefully he'll pass the information on to his boss. Kev is going to call there on Monday to follow up.

OH...my was here for 5 days and looked at houses and found one she loves. Kev doesnt want to follow through until he sees it. I told him i'd buy him a ticket to come here overnight or for 2 days to interview and check out the house. I'm praying that his all works out in good timing.
Thanks to everyone for praying...keep it up..it's not over yet. lol

ok...now the explosion. The other day when my was still here, i was about to make soup. I started the pan, put some oil in and then cut onions. I had just stirred it with a Metal spoon, turned to get the garlic and heard a big BOOOM ZAP ZAP ZAP ZAP zzzzzzzzz. I high tailed it and then thought..i can't let my kitchen burn down. I saw a flash out of the corner of my eye and thought the oil caught fire but i had just started the stove.

I turned back and there was no fire..i was confused for a second. My was like..HOLY C, R, A, P!!!!!! She said there was a HUGE white blast with a bunch of little blue flashes that filled the kitchen.
WELLLL...what happened..I turned to shut off the stove and i went to take the pan off the burner and it was stuck. I yanked it off. There was a hole blasted in the burner coil with melted edges and the silver collar around the burner had a hole and there was a hole in the middle of the pot. A big old soup pot..with a hole blasted in it!! CRAZY!! Ya know how you can take the burner out and replace it? Well it's welded in there now. It scared the bajeezus outta me. LOL

Now..it's 3 days later and i have all the stuff to make soup and I'm scared to start the stove on another burner..but I'm daring like that..i'll let you know how it goes. LOL

So far....

My and the baby are here. They came in Sunday night and will be staying until Friday morning. She has an appt to look at a house that I already looked at today at 11. Tomorrow we will be seeing 5 more houses.

I have to look into something that is offered here in Tampa..i think it's called the Mayor's challenge fund. I looked into it when I bought my house but it was too late when i found out about it...i already had a closing date and it took 60 days to process. ANYWAY..you get 5 grand towards buying a house and if you live there for five years, you dont need to pay it back. PRAY that the city still has the funds available. I hear that they run out really quick.

ALSO...my in law gave his 30 day notice at work in Boston. They told him that they would put him up in a hotel for a month if he stayed for 60 days so that they could train someone to replace him. This gives them enough time and no rent to pay for a month so that they will have enough to pay for moving. Yay!! Thank God!!

NOW...not sure how that delay will work in buying a house. On the other hand, perhaps that will give them the time needed to get the city money for deposit cause they don't have it...theyre spending everything they have to move. OH..also, my said moving expenses may be a little lower a month later because she was told by the five thousand moving companies that she called that the end of april is so expensive because its the beginning of the peak moving season.

Well...I'll let you know what's up with the houses we look at and if i can figure out how to find out about the free cash and stuff.

Have a great day and thanks so much for your prayers and support.

and I quote....

Dear Darlene,

On behalf of President Judy Genshaft, the students, faculty and staff of the University of South Florida, I am please to offer you transfer admission to USF, beginning Summer 2007. Based on your postsecondary academic record, you have demonstrated that you have the potential to be a successful student at one of the nation's fastest rising research universities. You are to be congratulated.

Nationally, USF is one of the top five universities chosen by transfer studetns, and we are excited to have reached this critical next stage of your collegiate career with you.
blah blah blah more boring stuff.

Anyway..I just applied 5 days ago. That's crazy. The first time I was accepted there it took months.

I'm so excited! This is perfect timing for this letter to come. I have monday morning off of work so now I can go to the campus and get permitted for classes and figure out if i can apply for scholarships or what have you.

I only have one thing to say, and that's
WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Law and Order...DEAF

I hardly watch tv and this was the first time i saw Law and Order: CI
The CI stands for criminal intent, but the show tonight was about a different CI...Cochlear Implants.
It was cool to see the signing and to see a focus on the Deaf community.
On the other hand, it gave a really, really bad perspective of interpreters. Lousy interpreting and EXTREMELY unprofessional!!

There was one point when he stuck to his code of ethics and wouldnt interpret a conversation between a lawyer and the Deaf . Otherwise..jeezzzzzzzz.

His signing was choppy..looked like an ASL 2 student...grasping for each sign. Not that there's anything wrong with that if you're a student. everyone experiences it..but that's certainly not the level you should be at if you want to do legal interpreting...or ANY interpreting.

Even worse...the Deaf woman starting going off and he couldnt understand her. What the heck?!?!?! The woman was a very clear signer.
AND...He constantly began his interpreting with...''she said...'' or ''he's talking about...''

I know you're thinking..relax, it's a TV show. Yeah..I know. But this was a screwed up show. Most of the deaf people spoke for themselves. Yeah it happens..but not as common as they showed on there...especially if they have access to an interpreter.
An interpreter does NOT get involved in an investigation or discuss cases with cops or district attorneys. Interpreters are language access providers..cultural mediators..End of story!

It's tough enough to try and get people to realize that interpreting is a professional job. Yes, some interpreters have deaf parents..most don't Yes I have a college degree in interpreting. No the deaf person is not my buddy, my friend or my sister and i'm not there to help out because I'm so culturally aware and feel sorry for the deaf. It's my job..i get paid. lol
People tell me all the time..''wow, that's great you have a job where you want to help out''
Do they say that about people who interpret Russian or Latvian for the United Nations? I doubt it.
It's a language barrier only. I'm a language facilitator.

Ya know..I read a blog tonight about someone who was FUMING because people were gossiping about her being pregnant and puking and they were trying to figure out who the dad was and she's not even pregnant.
. To me that was hysterical!!
Dumb people (meaning the gossipers, NOT the blogger) crack me up. I didn't respond to the blog because I didn't want to sound condescending because I don't mean that at all. It's just not my personality to freak out about stuff like that.
HOWEVER..if that same woman reads this blog..she's gonna think I'm a nut job for flipping out about something like this. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
We all have our triggers. This is mine. LOL

The average joe doesn't understand the nature of my job, position, professionalism, or what is involved with my responsibility (I'm not a tutor, aide or helpmate. I don't interpret out of pity for deaf people. I love the language, the people and the culture) And that's fine..totally understandable. ON THE OTHER HAND...when a tv show that presents itself as a representative of true to life..not a comedy... makes us look like bumbling fools. Not Good

Can you tell that it highly annoyed me?? LOL
I vented..i feel better. LOL

I was looking for that meyers briggs test that has the personality results...itjf..whatever..all the different letters and couldnt find it without having to pay for it. Soo..i found this other test. Looks like i'm certifiable. LOL Most of it is on..1 or 2 little things could be tweaked.
I've you've been saying..'jeezz that girl is a bit off, I think I need to pray for her' well..now you have specifics..have at it. God is listening. lol

Risk Attitudes Profiler

Inspired

PSYCHOLOGICAL PORTRAIT
Your need for the excitement of risk is an inexhaustible source of energy during a greater part of your life. This energy sometimes drives you to endeavors which may endanger your fortune and even your life. You are always obsessed by your idea and persist in advocating and spreading it no matter how it is accepted by society around you. Developing and putting into effect this idea produces in you a pleasurable state of mind and gives you a reason for living.

There are a relatively small number of such people in the world, but many of them are universally known because their conviction, faith and determination promulgated ideas that influenced history. Famous personages who are close to this type include the biblical Abraham, the apostle Paul, Mohammed, religious reformers Martin Luther and John Calvin, explorers who changed the understanding of global geography like Columbus and Magellan, Galileo, Copernicus, philosopher-utopists like Thomas More, inventors like Fulton, and revolutionists like Robespierre and Lenin. There are also among them founders of various religious sects and of political movements.

This type of person may have ideas that are not necessarily earth-shaking or important to all of mankind, but they occupy him completely. These ideas may be of an invention, a scientific hypothesis or a special philosophically substantiated way of life or nutrition, such as Zen Buddhism or vegetarianism. Among this type are also found passionate collectors of paintings, books, stamps, etc., whose main goal is to obtain a rare painting, book or stamp.

The distinctive characteristic of such persons is their complete preoccupation with their idea; it becomes their purpose in life and they see their lives as the means to implement this idea or as the time period in which they can reach their goals. Their idea extremely important to them and without them they cannot imagine their lives.

Neither past nor present is actual for this type of person; he is pointed only towards the future, the time when his goal will be reached. Obstacles and dangers do not stop him; on the contrary, they stimulate his activity.

He treats people around him according to how these people see his ideas and goals: if these people share his goals he will treat them well; if they are indifferent or hostile to his ideas, he will be indifferent or hostile to them; and if they do not approve of them, or worse, are opposed to them, he will regard them as enemies and will hate them.

This type of person, if obsessed by social, political or religious ideas, sees all of mankind as the object of his concern, and he loves mankind as a whole more than individual people. He is ready to sacrifice individual people for the sake of a "common happiness" but not if those individuals are his faithful fellow-fighters. He is also ready to sacrifice himself for his idea. He does not spare either himself or others.

Such a person is egocentric in the sense that he considers himself the center of all events - but he is not egotistical. He does not have purely personal interests. Food for him is, for the most part, not a source of pleasure but only the means to satisfy his hunger. He is capable of enjoying his food but often has special tastes: food must be cooked in a special way, or served at a specific temperature, etc. He does not care for entertainment, except perhaps talking about subjects of interest to him. However, his interests often range beyond the limits of his main idea or obsession and his knowledge in different spheres is striking. He will have his own point of view on all subjects and it is almost always interesting to listen to what he has to say.

He is often surrounded by followers or disciples who are equally passionate about his ideas, but he has only one or two really close friends. He is indifferent to the opposite \bsexo?\b although he can experience a type of love towards one of his admirers, who becomes his main comrade-in-arms.

He is, to some extent, attached to his family, but he is authoritarian towards them and intolerant of the slightest neglect of their duty which is to serve the cause of the head of the family. He suffers major setbacks and even tragedies stoically, turning aside to immerse himself ever deeper in his cause

Perhaps I've lost my mind, but I'm going back to school....Again.

I didn't start college until 15 years after I graduated high school. I decided to do it because I was working for the post office. Not in a city office where you go buy stamps. I was in a processing center working overnight..which is considered their 1st shift. The job was physical, but not bad. There are, however, wayyyy too many levels of bosses who have NO IDEA what your job is. They all come by and tell you how to do it differently. You have to do what they say..and then redo it the right way. I nearly lost my mind..i know why people go postal. The mail gets out in spite of the bosses not because of them.

Anyway....I have my BA in ASL interpreting and that's what I do for my day job. I love it. I've started learning Spanish since I moved to Florida and I want to continue. Eventually I would like to interpret for court with the options for either Sign Language or Spanish.

Soooo...I'm going to go back to school to get my masters in Spanish. 1st I have to become fluent so I'm going to take classes and then next summer start the program. My universty has an intensive summer only program.

I know quite a bit of spanish...even though most of it has a Mexican flair. I know I could CLEP Spanish 1 and most likely Spanish 2, but I have a lot of the grammatical blocks missing (my Mexican friends speak to me in spanish and I reply in English because I dont know how to put it together)..which means I want to start with level 1 and get a couple of easy A's. LOL

Anyway...because I work for the public school system, I dont have time during the day to go speak with an advisor to get me set up. We'll see how it goes. I think I'll head to the USF website now and see how to progress.

I am so... driven? hard headed? stubborn? focused? not sure which actually describes me. LOL But when I want to do something, I do. Now if only I had the drive to earn more money than what an interpreter makes. LOL Nahhhh..I LOVE my job. I'd throw myself on a dull knife if I had to sit in an office all day long.

A prayer request for one of life's little stumbling blocks...

My lives in Boston with her husband and baby. They have a couple of roommates but were planning on moving out in August/september. They have another baby due in October. Anyway...the day after I got back from visiting, their landlord told them that their rent was going up $600 in April (from $1800 to $2400), so now they need to move by the end of May. Even if they wanted to stay and pay that much more, the roommates said theyre moving out in 2 weeks so it's really impossible.

They have decided to move here to Tampa because they would be able to afford to buy a house here. They want to do this right away..but that means not only finding a place to live, but my 's husband needs to find a job (he's a cook...souz chef) RIGHT AWAY!

My younger is there in Boston visiting her sister during her spring break. They are going to be coming back together a week from friday so that the one with the situation can work on trying to set things up.

It's a stressful, difficult situation for them. My needs insurance but the insurance she has right now won't do her much good if she doesn't have a place to live.

I dunno.

Of course I'd love to have them here near me, but I would appreciate if a few people would pray for things to situate quickly for them, whether it be here in florida or there in Boston. It bothers me that she's all of a sudden hit with such stress while she's pregnant...or any time..she's my baby.

Thanks tons,
Darlene
