We're having thunderstorms. Lots of 'em. I love storms. The lightning, the thunder. What can I say? My Dad knows how to throw a cool party!

21st CENTURY PERSECUTION? NO WAY...

Yesterday I was talking to a friend who used to live in Iran. He told me that if you claim to be a Christian, you can go hungry. Sometimes you don't eat for a week. If someone asks whether you are Muslim or Christian, and you say Christian, you stay hungry. If you say you are Muslim, you eat. He said many Christians give in, and claim to be Muslim because they are hungry. Some don't give in. Some of those die. It's strange hearing about Christians being persecuted. We read about the church being persecuted "way-back-when", but today? Yep. Today.

READY FOR BOOT CAMP

So often, we think of church as the place to go to relax. But we are warriors. Warriors need training. Where do modern-day warriors go for training? They go to boot camp.
Church is our boot camp. It's where we learn how to survive, and how to fight. When people in the military are training, what are they taught? They are taught: Wear your armor. Keep your weapon with you, and make sure you know how to use it effectively. Know how to identify your enemy. No matter what, keep going. Obey the one who is in charge.
So when we go to church, we need to remember---it isn't nap time. It's boot camp. Then, as we go out the doors of the church building, we are going out into the field.
Okay then--- DIS-missed!!

I AM THE TEMPLE

In the year that King Uzziah died, Isaiah saw the Lord, And the Lord's glory filled the temple.
Isaiah saw flaming creatures That flew and shouted Until the doorposts of the temple shook.
When Isaiah saw the Lord.
And the Lord's glory filled the temple.
I am now the temple, The Lord is in me, His glory filling my being.
Now I shout Hallelujah! Because of His salvation, Praising the God who is, has been, and will be.
Isaiah saw the Lord, Now the Lord is here, Amen, Almighty God, Amen.

ANOTHER GRAPEVINE CLUE

My grapevine is looking pretty good now, but earlier this year, right after I pruned it... The poor thing looked like it had lost its last friend---and then some. God leaves us clues all over the place so we can understand things. One of the things that seem to give us trouble is understanding how God can be 3 in 1. My grapevine explained that to me. In February, I have to prune it down to three main branches. I have to cut everything off except those three. Those branches aren't three separate vines. They are all the same vine. But they are all separate, at the same time. I know, I know..."Not another grapevine illustration!" What can I say? God stuffed a lot of clues into grapevines...

DROP KICK ME

Our band plays for a community outreach every second Saturday. One time we played this song. I love it...I dunno, it just says how I feel some days.... Drop Kick Me Jesus
Drop kick me Jesus, Through the goal posts of life, End over end, Neither left nor to right Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights, Dropkick me Jesus Through the goalposts of life.
Make me, oh, make me, Lord, More than I am, Make me a piece in Your master game plan, Free from the earthly temptations below, I've got the will Lord, If You've got the toe.
Bring on the brothers Who've gone on before, And all of the sisters, who've knocked at Your door, All the departed dear loved ones of mine, Stick 'em up front in the offensive line.
Drop kick me Jesus, Through the goalposts of life, End over end, neither left nor to right, Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights, Drop kick me Jesus, Through the goalposts of life.

THE GREAT BIBLE MYSTERY

He wanted to read his Bible, So he hunted all over the place, Upstairs, downstairs, in the hall, He looked for its carrying case.
He mumbled and tripped on a toy, Stubbed his toe on the couch and a chair, But no matter how hard he dug for that Book, It just didn't seem to be there.
He decided to have a nap, So he lay down and closed his eyes, But when he woke up in Heaven He was kind of surprised.
He ran up to Jesus and hugged Him, Saying, "Wow, Lord, this place is great! But before we go on can I ask you--- What was my Bible's fate?"
"I looked all over the house, And I couldn't find it that day, I'd sure like to know where it was, And get all that out of the way."
Jesus said, I saw you searching around, Falling asleep by the willow, Your Bible was in your own bed, You'd left it beneath your pillow."

HOLDING OUR BREATH

We're holding our breath here. Why? Because tomorrow it's supposed to... sunshine.... That's no small thing around here. A couple days ago, a few miles away from where I live, some people had snow. That stuck. That's how cold it has been. Even the people who love skiing are saying they're ready for some sun. Not the kind of sun that drips down your collar, either. Yesterday I opened my front door and yelled, "I hate this weather! This is JUNE! It isn't supposed to be cold! I want sunshine and I want it NOW!" It didn't work. The clouds were still there. I closed the door. The phone rang. The first thing I thought was, "Oh, oh. It's God calling. I'm in trouble." Well, it wasn't God, of course. Strange how our mind works sometimes. Now, back to the breath-holding.....

THE CAMPER'S 23rd PSALM

The Lord is my camp guide. He's got all I need: He lets me rest at clean campsites with beautiful trees,a hammock and a swimming hole. I get great naps. He shows me the path to the restroom because he is good. Even though I walk through the valley where skunks live, I will fear no evil, for he gave me nose plugs. My receipt and his cell number comfort me. He prepares s'mores in the presence of raccoons. My hot cocoa mug is full to the brim. Surely sunshine and biting fish will be with me, and I will stay in the Lord's campground forever!
by me Happy Camping!

WHAT TO GIVE FOR FATHER'S DAY
|

At church last Sunday, one of the guys who got up to do a talk started out telling about one Father's Day... He went over to his parents' house. He thought that as his gift that year, he would help out around the house, so he did some repairs, pulled some weeds, and mowed the lawn. As he was mowing the lawn, he realized he had made a boo-boo: it wasn't Father's Day---it was MOTHER'S Day. He "should" have brought a card and flowers, and taken her out to dinner. (I kinda liked the idea of the help around the house idea, myself). He went on to talk about how we do different things on different occasions. I think my favorite part of what he said was that, at church, on Mother's Day, someone stands by the door and gives a card and a flower to each mother---which is wonderful. Then he suggested they have the person at the door, on Father's Day, give each father a card--- and a piece of chicken. Because that's the kind of thing that makes guys happy. Hmmm....interesting concept.....
