    Well it's summer and things are predictably heating up. Not just in your backyard but on Capitol Hill as well.

    Republicans in the House and Senate are fighting for a balanced energy plan to bring relief to families everywhere. All week Republican legislators in the House have staged a rally demanding Speaker Nancy Pelosi call back the Congress for a special session and an up or down vote on a comprehensive energy plan that includes offshore drilling.

    In the Senate, Republicans have gone to the airwaves with a simple but powerful message demanding action on a balanced energy plan. You can see their video at huckpac dotty kom. I am proud to say it includes two Huck PAC endorsed candidates: Lamar Alexander and Elizabeth Dole. After you watch the video I encourage you to share it with family and friends.

    Finally, and this is something we are all excited about, I wanted to share an idea we had and get your feedback.

    Everyone knows how committed our supporters were during the campaign. Time after time we overcame long odds to shock the pundits because of the hard work of our volunteers. In September we want to launch a campaign to mobilize Huckabee supporters once again, this time in support of our favorite candidates. With your help, we will set a goal of X hours and then track the hours on our front page like we used to track dollars raised online during the campaign. Participating volunteers can help any candidate of their choosing. All they need to do is tell us who the candidate is and then login on our website the number of hours they volunteered for (so they are counted towards our total). The candidate you help does not have to be a Huck PAC endorsed candidate.

    If this effort is successful, we will launch it again in October and set a higher goal for our team.

    the movie "The Lion King". When Simba,

    the one called to rule, ran away in fear,

    the kingdom was overrun with hyenas and

    the evil lion ruled. The land became

    desolate and unfruitful. When Simba

    returned to take his God-given position,

    and he drove out the enemies...the land

    prospered and became fruitful once again.



    Are you ruling the domain, the kingdom

    the LORD has assigned to you? ? ? ? ?

    Or are you going to let the enemies

    overrun this land with corruption and

    destruction? Are you an Adam or a reflection

    of JESUS? ? ? ? Your vote does count,

    John McCain's campaign has asked Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor for personal documents as the Republican presidential candidate steps up his search for a running mate, The Associated Press has learned.

    Cantor, 45, the chief deputy minority whip in the House, has been mentioned among several Republicans as a possible running mate for McCain. A Republican familiar with the conversations between Cantor and the McCain campaign said Cantor has been asked to turn over documents, but did not know specifically what records were sought.

    The individual spoke on the condition of anonymity because neither the McCain campaign nor Cantor's office wishes to discuss the running mate selection process.

    Cantor through a spokesman declined to comment. McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said the campaign would have "no comment on anything related to the vice presidential issue."

    With just weeks till the national conventions, McCain and Democratic Sen. Barack Obama have knuckled down in their search for vice presidential candidates. They have been regularly huddling behind closed doors with a small circle of advisers to examine the backgrounds and records – and weigh the political implications – of at least a handful of prospects.

    Cantor has been a visible McCain surrogate for weeks, appearing frequently on cable news outlets chiefly to promote McCain's positions on domestic and economic issues. He has been a forceful critic of Democrat Barack Obama's resistance to lifting the federal ban on oil and gas drilling off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

    Cantor has strong support among the party's conservatives, perhaps comforting a segment of the GOP base that has been reluctant to embrace McCain, who has often been at odds with members of his own party on several issues, including a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, federal funds for embryonic stem cell research and campaign finance reform.

    Since his four terms in the Virginia House of Delegates starting in the early 1990s, Cantor has been part of the anti-tax wing of Virginia's Republican Party. His longtime advocacy for business and corporate interests in the General Assembly earned Cantor the derisive nickname "Overdog" from Democrats in Richmond.

    Cantor is Jewish and is among Israel's most avid congressional supporters. His addition to the ticket could help the GOP win over Jewish votes this year. If McCain wins, Cantor would become the first Jewish vice president.

    Cantor also would provide youth to the ticket as McCain turns 72 later this month.

    Cantor could provide McCain with an important asset in Virginia, a state that last backed a Democrat for president in 1964 but which both parties are now targeting as a battleground.

    That both McCain and Obama are considering Virginians as running mates underscores the importance of a conservative southern state in the back yard of Washington where Democrats have found success since 2001.

    While the state's 13 electoral votes don't place Virginia among electoral giants such as California, Texas or Pennsylvania, picking off a state in the solidly Republican South could tip a close race to the Democrats.

    Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine is personally close and ideologically in sync with Obama and has been mentioned as a possible running mate along with Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana and Joe Biden of Delaware and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.

    Among others believed to be getting close looks from McCain: Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Ohio Rep. Rob Portman for McCain.

    Cantor's drawback is his obscurity despite his leadership position in the House.

    He won his seat in Congress in 2000 from one of Virginia's most conservative House districts. No Democratic challenger has come close to defeating him since, including actor Ben Jones, who played the Cooter character on the "Dukes of Hazzard" television comedy series. He faces a longshot challenge this year from Anita Hartke, the of former Democratic Sen. Vance Hartke of Indiana.

    A letter sent to me from Mike Huckabee


    Someone asked me recently to describe Barack Obama's Agenda. The question caught me off guard, because if you think about it, he's been running as the "change candidate" and yet no one I know understands what change he is aiming for. His Agenda remains shrouded in mystery. For instance, gasoline prices are at historic highs and yet he hasn't articulated a plan of action to help American families.

    What we do know about Barack Obama's agenda, is that he favors higher taxes, supports abortion, believes the federal government should be bigger and has embraced a foreign policy that would make Jane Fonda proud. We also know he was rated by National Journal as the most liberal Senator because of his voting record. According to their ranking, even Bernie Sanders, Vermont's Socialist Senator, isn't as liberal as Barack Obama. No kidding.

    So if the thought of President Obama working with a Democrat Senate and House makes you nervous, I urge you to take action now to keep this from becoming a reality in November.

    McCain Gains on Obama in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Poll Says

    July 31 (Bloomberg) -- Republican John McCain is gaining on Democrat Barack Obama in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, three battleground states in the presidential election, according to a Quinnipiac University poll.

    Florida and Ohio are ``too close to call,'' while Obama leads in Pennsylvania 49 percent to 42 percent, the poll said. In Florida and Ohio, Obama has 46 percent support to 44 percent for McCain.

    In the same poll a month ago, Obama held a four-point lead in Florida, a six-point lead in Ohio and a 12-point lead in Pennsylvania, according to the poll.

    No White House candidate has been elected since 1960 without winning two of the three states, said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

    The survey also found that, by margins of 27 percent to 30 percent, likely voters in each state agree with McCain and President George W. Bush that offshore drilling should be allowed. Obama opposes more offshore drilling.

    The poll, conducted between July 23 and 29, surveyed 1,248 likely voters in Florida, 1,229 likely voters in Ohio, and 1,317 likely voters in Pennsylvania. The margins of error were plus or minus 2.8 percentage points in Florida and Ohio, and 2.7 in Pennsylvania.

    Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game. So what's the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire Book of Acts. They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game.

    But it's a Christian prayer, some will argue.

    Yes, and this is the United States of America , a country founded on Christian principles. According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect -- somebody chanting Hare Krishna?

    If I went to a football game Jerusalem, I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer.

    If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad , I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.

    If I went to a ping pong match in China , I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.

    And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit.
    When in Rome ..

    But what about the atheists? Is another argument.

    What about them? Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We're not going to pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand. Call your lawyer!

    Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do. I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations.

    Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.

    God, help us. And if that last sentence offends you, well, just sue me.

    The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we tell that o ne or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want. It is time that the majority rules! It's time we tell them, You don't have to pray; you don't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right; but you are no longer going to take our rights away. We are fighting back, and we WILL WIN!

    God bless us one and all .. especially those who denounce Him ,God bless America, despite all her faults. She is still the greatest nation of all. God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.

    Let's make 2008 the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions ... and our military forces come home from all the wars.

    Keep looking up.

    This is a bit late for the Fourth of July but worth reading anyway.





    We have much to be thankful for on the Fourth of July. We know that God has blessed this country with a Christian heritage that has yielded many blessings. But, unless we pass our great gift on to our and grandchildren, all they have to believe is what they read in their textbooks and see on the Internet and television. Christ and our country are counting on you.
    OUR REAL ROOTS:

    This is one e-mail that needs to be shared. But then, we may already be too late. God help us.




    Did you know that 52 of the 55 signers of The Declaration of Independence were orthodox, deeply committed Christians? The other three all believed in the Bible as the divine truth, the God of scripture, and His personal intervention.





    It is the same congress that formed the American Bible Society. Immediately after creating the Declaration of Independence, the Continental Congress voted to purchase and import 20,000 copies of scripture for the people of this nation.





    Patrick Henry, who is called the firebrand of the American Revolution, is still remembered for his words, ' Give me liberty or give me death. ' But in current textbooks the context of these words is deleted. Here is what he said: ' An appeal to arms and the God of hosts is all that is left us. But we shall not fight our battle alone. There is a just God that presides over the destinies of nations. The battle sir, is not of the strong alone. Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it almighty God. I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death. '



    These sentences have been erased from our textbooks.





    Was Patrick Henry a Christian? The following year, 1776, he wrote this ' It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here. '





    Consider these words that Thomas Jefferson wrote on the front of his well- worn Bible: ' I am a Christian, that is to say a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus. I have little doubt that our whole country will soon be rallied to the unity of our Creator and, I hope, to the pure doctrine of Jesus also. '





    Consider these words from George Washington, the Father of our Nation, in his farewell speech on September 19, 1796:





    'It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible. Of all the dispositions and habits that lead to political prosperity, our religion and morality are the indispensable supporters. Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that our national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle. '





    Was George Washington a Christian? Consider these words from his personal prayer book: ' Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the lamb and purge my heart by the Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of thy , Jesus Christ, that living in thy fear, and dying in thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of thy , Jesus Christ. '





    Consider these words by John Adams, our second president, who also served as chairman of the American Bible Society.





    In an address to military leaders he said, ' We have no government armed with the power capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and true religion. Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. '



    How about our first Court Justice, John Jay?





    He stated that when we select our national leaders, if we are to preserve our Nation, we must select Christians. ' Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers. '



    John Quincy Adams, of John Adams, was the sixth U.S. President.





    He was also the chairman of the American Bible Society, which he considered his highest and most important role. On July 4, 1821, President Adams said, ' The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity. '





    Calvin Coolidge, our 30th President of the United States reaffirmed this truth when he wrote, ' The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country. '





    In 1782, the United States Congress voted this resolution: ' The congress of the United States recommends and approves the Holy Bible for use in all schools. '





    William Holmes McGuffey is the author of the McGuffey Reader, which was used for over 100 years in our public schools with over 125 million copies sold until it was stopped in 1963. President Lincoln called him the ' Schoolmaster of the Nation. '





    Listen to these words of Mr. McGuffey: ' The Christian religion is the religion of our country. From it are derived our notions on character of God, on the great moral Governor of the universe. On its doctrines are founded the peculiarities of our free institutions. From no source has the author drawn more conspicuously than from the sacred Scriptures. From all these extracts from the Bible I make no apology. '





    Of the first 108 universities founded in America , 106 were distinctly Christian, including the first.





    Harvard University, chartered in 1636. In the original Harvard Student Handbook rule number 1 was that students seeking entrance must know Latin and Greek so that they could study the scriptures:





    'Let every student be plainly instructed and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ, which is eternal life, John 17:3; and therefore to lay Jesus Christ as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning. And seeing the Lord only giveth wisdom, let everyone seriously set himself by prayer in secret to seek it of him (Proverbs 2:3). '



    For over 100 years, more than 50% of all Harvard graduates were pastors!





    It is clear from history that the Bible and the Christian faith, were foundational in our educational and judicial system. However in 1947, there was a radical change of direction in the Supreme Court.





    Here is the prayer that was banished:



    'Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence on Thee. We beg Thy blessings upon us and our parents and our teachers and our country.



    Amen. '



    In 1963, the Supreme Court ruled that Bible reading was outlawed as unconstitutional in the public school system. The court offered this justification: ' If portions of the New Testament were read without explanation, they could and have been psychologically harmful to . '





    Bible reading was now unconstitutional , though the Bible was quoted 94 percent of the time by those who wrote our constitution and shaped our Nation and its system of education and justice and government.





    In 1965, the Courts denied as unconstitutional the rights of a student in the public school cafeteria to bow his head and pray audibly for his food.



    In 1980, Stone vs. Graham outlawed the Ten Commandments in our public schools.





    The Supreme Court said this: ' If the posted copies of the Ten Commandments were to have any effect at all, it would be to induce school to read them. And if they read them, meditated upon them, and perhaps venerated and observed them, this is not a permissible objective. '



    Is it not a permissible objective to allow our to follow the moral principles of the Ten Commandments?

    The Miracle Called Israel

    Sixty years ago, May 14, 1948, the modern State of Israel was born.
    The circumstances of Israel's re-birth were anything but average. In fact,
    some say Israel's renaissance -- after 2,000 years -- was nothing short of miraculous.

    In a country the size of New Jersey, this thriving democracy, with its 7.3 million citizens,
    is a world leader in medicine, technology and agriculture,
    with a military that ranks among the finest.



    Israel's 1967 Miracle

    Tiny Israel has given the world the cell phone, computer processors
    and voice mail. Israelis have made the barren desert bloom, reforested
    large portions of the country, and have made the nation a leading
    exporter of fruits, vegetables and flowers.

    The State of Israel

    The story of the modern State of Israel officially began that fateful day
    in May when the nation's first prime minister, David Ben Gurion,
    declared the country's independence from a small building in Tel Aviv.

    Just a few hours later, the United States, under President Harry Truman,
    became the first country to recognize nascent nation.

    Israeli historian Michael Oren believes that Truman's faith gave him
    the power to defy his advisors' strong objections and support Israeli statehood.

    In his latest book, Power, Faith and Fantasy, Oren says Truman, who
    committed lengthy passages of scripture to memory, had a biblical
    perspective on the Jewish homeland.

    "He knew the map of Palestine better than he knew the map of his neighboring
    county in Missouri," Oren told CBN News. "When he was a senator, he was a
    member of American Christian Committee for Palestine, an evangelical,
    pro-Zionist organization," he said.

    Because of his biblical perspective, President Truman must have understood
    when the newly born State of Israel immediately opened its doors to thousands
    of Jews who survived the Nazi Holocaust. These emaciated, homeless victims
    of man's inhumanity to man had lost most of their family and everything they owned.

    A Homeland of Their Own

    Yet hope arose in their hearts when Israel, the nation miraculously born in a day,
    offered them a homeland of their own.

    "In the whole history of the world, no people, no country, has ever gone out of
    existence for anything like 2,000 years and then been reborn," author Brock Thoene
    told CBN News. "So it is correct to say that it is a miracle. But that is a dramatic
    understatement because the rebirth of Israel is a whole series of miracles," he said.

    And Thoene wasn't exaggerating. Just to survive, Israel would need a whole lot of miracles.

    The day after statehood was declared, Arab armies from surrounding nations
    attacked from all sides. Trained by the British and much better armed than the Israelis,
    the Arabs vowed to push the Jews into the sea, a reality that transformed many of the
    new Jewish refugees into instant soldiers.

    "Many of them got off the docks, had weapons thrust into their hands and were told,
    'Welcome to Israel. You are now fighting for her survival. And by the way, yours is
    kind of on the line, too,'" Thoene said.

    At the tank museum in Latrun, located about halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv,
    visitors can see the actual tanks and trucks, now decorated with wreaths, which were
    used in the 1948 Battle of Latrun. This was the key battle that broke the siege of
    Jerusalem and helped Israel survive its first war as a modern nation.

    The fight for Jerusalem was intense. And although the Jewish residents of
    Jerusalem's Old City were forced to leave their homes, their bravery and fortitude
    helped Israel survive the early days of the war.

    Historical novelist Bodie Thoene, Brock's wife, has thoroughly researched the battle for the Old City.

    "They hung on with those 200 defenders and that particular battlefront distracted
    the Arabs from all other battles and enabled -- in the two weeks that the Old City
    held out -- the rest of Israel, the brand new baby State of Israel, to arm itself," Thoene said.

    The Fight for Nationhood

    In its 60 years, Israel fought three more wars on its own soil and two in Lebanon.
    And today's radical Islamists share the same goal as Israel's Arab foes in 1948
    -- to push the Jews into the sea and reclaim the land for Allah.

    Historian Paul Johnson believes supernatural timing played a critical role in Israel's
    creation, called the 'nakba' by many Arabs.

    "The truth is, in asking for a national home, the Jews were about 10 to 15 years ahead
    of the Arabs" Johnson said. "If they'd been running neck and neck, they'd never have
    gotten it, in my opinion," he said.

    "So they stepped through a window of history that suddenly opened briefly into nationhood,
    and it is one of the miracles of history that this happened, he said.

    Israel's Messianic Jews: Some Call it a Miracle

    In Israel, a resurgence in the number of Jews who believe in Jesus
    is getting a lot of attention. Many leaders say it's the strongest growth
    since the time of Jesus and that the Messianic movement could be
    on the brink of a great revival.

    "This is the first time where we've seen Israeli society in general
    being so open to consider who Yeshua is," said Messianic leader
    Asher Intrater. "This is a real miracle, and there's beginning to be
    grace and favor with us in the land."

    Although Jesus and the early disciples were Jewish, for nearly 2,000
    the gospel has been viewed as a religion mainly for Gentiles. Even the
    name Jesus or Yeshua has been a forbidden word among many Jews.
    But in the last few years, Messianic leaders in Israel say something
    important is happening.

    "I believe with all my heart, after we have come back to the land, we are
    seeing the Lord, the Holy Spirit, is removing the veil from the eyes of the
    Jews and more and more Jews are realizing," Tel Aviv pastor Avi Mizrachi said.

    Although nobody knows for sure how many Messianic Jews live in Israel,
    it's believed there are about 120 congregations now and 10,000-15,000
    Jewish believers in Jesus.

    That may not sound like many, given Israel's nearly six million Jews, but it's
    a far cry from 10 years ago, when there were only about 3,500 Jewish
    believers and 80 congregations.

    A good example is Shemen Sasson in Jerusalem, where attendance has
    nearly tripled over the past four years. Today, close to 300 people attend
    the meetings, most of them Jewish or people married to Jews, and
    salvations are increasing.

    Meet the Ronens. Daniel, Ayelet and their 5 are Israeli believers.
    Ayelet is an Israeli Jew and Daniel is a Finnish Gentile. But his family has
    been here since before Israel became a nation. They believe Jesus is the
    Jewish Messiah.

    "When Jesus came, when Yeshua came, he came to talk to our people,"
    Ayelet Ronen said. "He walked on our land, He spoke our language, He
    spoke in our synagogues. Really He came for us!

    Yad-Hashmona is a beautiful little village about 10 miles outside Jerusalem,
    and the only one home to just Messianic Jewish believers like the Ronens.

    For this family, being Israeli and believing in Jesus is a natural fit. They keep
    the Jewish feasts, circumcise their sons, keep the Sabbath and serve in the
    army. And even though they live in a Messianic village, they don't feel
    secluded from the rest of Israeli society.

    "Our go with everybody else to school... I go to work outside...Our
    principle is to go out and be part of society," Daniel Ronen explained.

    Their sometimes face challenges, but have used those occasions to witness.

    "My friends started to know I'm a believer and they ask me if I'm a believer...
    I tell them I'm a believer in Yeshua and it's really good to believe in Him and
    that maybe you can one day believe in him too," little third grader Adan said.

    The Ronens are sometimes accused of being missionaries, a very bad word
    in Israel, but they insist they are not.

    "My point is to share my faith with anyone who wants to hear me and I will gladly
    share the Good News of my faith," Ayelet said. "I never speak of you should
    do, and you should change.."

    In addition to Israeli-born believers, many are from other countries. American
    Jews Eddie and Jackie Santoro became believers during the 70s Jesus movement.

    They made Aliyah to Israel 11 years ago, learned Hebrew and now lead a growing
    congregation in Jerusalem.

    "Our current congregation, we started almost 2 years ago with about 20 people,
    today we have over 100," Eddie Santoro explained. "We see salvations here and
    there, but we feel like there's something yet to come, it's definitely growing."

    But being a Jewish believer in Israel isn't easy.

    "I think probably the greatest challenge is that you always feel that the rest of society
    isn't accepting you and so when you meet somebody and you want to talk to them
    and you want to tell them who you are, there's always that challenge of, 'should I
    say something,"; Jackie Santoro said.

    For the first time, the secular media are saying something, even mentioning
    Messianic Jews in a more favorable light. A recent wave of persecution, including
    the bombing of a young Jewish believer, have put Messianic Jews on the front page.

    "At least we see that believers are being asked to explain who they are, what they
    believe in, why they are here...how they can be Israeli and believe in Jesus and be
    given an opportunity to tell their story and share their testimony," Knut Hoyland
    of the Caspari Center said.

    And what does this movement mean for the Body of Christ?

    "If it wasn't for Yeshua, we would be lost," Ayelet said.
