Racial intolerance in South Africa is despicable

I ponder where our world is heading given all the turmoil in our world today. I listened to the news on radio this morning about the zenophobic violence committed in South Africa by blacks against blacks-- South Africans taking revenge on Zimbabwians claiming these refugees were stealing their land, goods, houses, jobs and even their women. There were reports that some were being burned alive.
What on earth have we done to allow people to swerve so far to this side, that people actually stood by and watched this all happen?
I pray for peace and tolerance. I pray for God's guidance and his understanding.
Please join me in prayer.

Is there life on another planet?

I read today that the Vatican concedes that life may exist elsewhere in this universe.
The issue now is related to who infact made the rest of the universe and if the work of Jesus falls within this realm.
For me it is still crystal clear-- God made the heavens and the earth. Simple.
Now what about Jesus? Well I believe he redeemed all mankind ( humankind) . Period. If life exist on another planet I still believe that Jesus would be their redeemer also.
So what about original sin? For me the same applies... these other creatures would certainly be within our world as we see it. Or am I being too earth-centric?
AM I the only one who is thinking about this possibility?

American Military helping in ravaged China... God bless them!

Perhaps in some ways this is divine intervention. Since its inception the Chinese Communist government has preached hatred towards the West-- particularly the United States.
The devastation that has hit China in recent days will go down as one of the world's greatest tragedies of our times-- not to mention what has happened in Burma in the very same month. But let us thank God that this brutal fascist regime is now welcoming help from the American military and the West in their coming to help this ravaged country.
Sometimes God levels us individually and collectively to humble us before his mercy. Is this the case right now in China? Yes, I believe so. The spirit moves where it wills and nothing .. not even fascism can separate anything and anyone from the love of God. I honestly believe that China like Burma is being pummeled by the almighty in getting it on its knees.
What wonderful news to hear that the American military is being used for such a life saving event as this. Let us pray that better relations will develop from this event between two mighty nations.

I learned of the news today of Senator Ted Kennedy's hospitalization. I've always enjoyed listening to this man's eloquence and sensible style of politics.
I pray that the Lord keep him well. He has been in my view a sensible lawmaker, and a good honest man.
God bless him now and always

Bush's comments in Israel on Obama

President Bush was quoted today as comparing Obama's idea of talking directly with the invisible enemy of the United States.. the Al Queda and the Taliban with attempts during the Second World War of appeasing Hitler.
Is Bush really serious? Surely this man is on drugs to be making a comparison like that with Obama. Frankly, what Bush has done so far has not worked and is not showing any signs of working. More dead soldiers and no sign of this war ever ending-- both the war in Afghanistan and in Iraq.
I'm beginning more and more to think that Obama is exactly the right man for the United States at this juncture. The war on terror is going to cripple the United States financially-- exactly what Bin Laden had predicted and wanted. Something intelligent has got to happen--- and it cannot continue to be all based on fear.
We are all headed for a financial disaster. The price of gas is killing everyone here in Canada and it shows no signs of letting up. More and more people in the auto sector are being laid off as well as other sectors of the economy. We in Canada will eventually see the same slow down in our economy as we see happening in the United States.
We need to get down on our knees and seek the Lord. I'm more and more beginning to see that these are very dark times for all-- not just for some.
Ora pro nobis!

Where was God?

A few years ago I heard an interview with a famous Jewish survivor of the holocaust... I think it was Eli Weisel.
He was asked "Where was God?" when his Jewish brothers and sisters were being gased at Aushwitz. He replied that it was not God that turned his back on his people, but humanity.
Today I ask the same question with respect to what is going on in Burma and China. Humanity is watching a massive horror taking place in Burma with little or no chance of anything happening. Countries are quick to invade territories when their own survival is at risk, but selfish and willing to look the other way when a massive tragedy like this in Burma is happening.
It's my view that the United Nations should step in and help out in Burma-- regardless of what the Burma government thinks. They can certainly air drop food and other supplies.
No, it is not God who has abandoned his people-- it is once again humanity that is looking the other way.
Let us pray for some kind of intervention.

The Greek word for "End of times" is Ho eschaton. I am meeting more and more Christians who really believe that there are clear signs that we are approaching the end of our time.
I have been working building sheds and fences in the last few weeks and have had no time to attend to my blog. But yesterday I met a lady while attending an auction and I commented on the terrible tragedies in Burma and the incredible tornadoes in the United States. Now today another ten thousand people are reported killed in a powerful earthquake in Western China.
We are witnessing an incredible number of tragedies of all proportions and on a large scale.
But is this truly the end of times? I'm quite concerned and looking for some answers-- as I really have no reason to believe one way or another.
I do know that some incredible things are happening and no one can take anything for granted in terms of their survival.

Meeting a quadraplegic

I went to a new church on Sunday and it was so filled with beautiful people-- very friendly, very old and very loving.
I shook the hand of a man in a wheelchair and asked God's blessing upon him. He asked me what I did for a living and told him I do handyman work. I said to him, " Would you like me to build you a coffin?" I guess I have always been a risk taking individual with a very strong outgoing personality well able to handle a lot of criticism-- but anyway, surprisingly he laughed and said, "No thanks, not yet anyway".
After coffee with a couple of 90 year old ladies he came to me and asked if I would build him a crib board. I ran back to his lodge following him as he speeded down the highway in his electric wheel chair... and went inside his luxery accommodation. There I saw elderly people moaning in their pain unable to do such simple things as pick up the phone as it was ringing.
His name was Dave. Twenty five years ago a large 8 thousand pound bale of hay fell and crushed his neck. He lay there for four hours without passing out-- begging God to kill him. He lived, no doubt to see another day.
I think he is 86 and is wife lives on a different floor from him and about the same age. There on his wall was a beautiful painting of the Three Sisters mountains in ALberta. Amazingly he had painted this himself using his right hand which he has very limited use of. He has no feeling in his legs or arms. But by using his mouth and holding the brush with his teeth he managed to do this wonderful painting.
What a work of art! Truly, one of God's most precious paintings! It will be some time before I make his crib board, but I will do it. Sometimes God puts us together with someone for a particular reason, and hardly ever for the reason we may think. Bennilee today had a quote on her blog about "Leaning not on your own understanding". Ohhhh how true! We never know what God is up to whenever we get hurt or injured. We have to read those wonderful words of scripture to interpret the meaning of our lives.
Would you like me to build you a coffin?

Have you ever been granted a pardon?

About 8 years ago I was working in downtown Edmonton and parked my vehicle adjacent to a parking meter zone but given all the construction in the area it seemed clear to me that I was reasonably safe.
Well as bad luck would have it I came back at the end of the day only to find my vehicle with not one, not two, but three tickets for an amount over $100.00. When I called into the city there was nothing I could do about it. Months later I attended my trial.
I was called up by the judge. The charges were laid against me, but the parking meter attendant failed to show. It was a clear sign he was in trouble.
The female judge then stated that I was free to go! It was an immense pardon! All the anxiety and all the story gathering in my head suddenly released like the air in a balloon! I was pardoned by the judge!
We all seek a pardon. I thought today of the immensity of God's goodness in giving us his very own to relieve us of our guilt and wrong doing for all the sins of our lifetime. But we ought not to take the final pardon of God lightly. Priests can forgive us our sins. ( Some no doubt would disagree with this) but Jesus is the one who truly forgives us.
Perhaps we ought to be engaged in a little more thinking about the judgment of God in the final days. Pardons are not a full and absolute guarantee in the kingdom of God.
Let us reflect today on the last time we were pardoned!

A major need has been fulfilled thanks to all your wonderful prayers. I finally found some work today after months without any. I got a contract to build a fence-- so long days and long nights until it is finished. Hopefully I can get a few more like this and then head into my surgery without worries about surviving.
Have to watch my rotator cuff as I do this work though. But I do appreciate the many prayers for me here on this site!
God love you all!
