Folding the flag, fallen heros and something the ACLU will never understand

I am always getting myself worked up over the ACLU and those lunatics from Westboro. Every day we hear this argument that God is not the reason for this great nation of ours prospers. The people that argue to take the ten commandments out of courthouses and of course the pledge of allegiance must be out of the schools along with prayer.

We do have one thing that the ACLU will never be able to take from our country. Tradition of the military. The next time you hear someone say that God wasn't that important to our founding fathers and should be taken off the dollar bill. Simply ask them if they believe if it's important for us to have a military funeral for those troops who fall in defense of that very dollar and our right to have "in God we trust" on it?

Then tell them about the folding of the flag and what each fold means and has meant since the very day the first American flag was folded in honor of a fallen soldier. I grabbed this off a website about our flag, it says it as good if not better than I could so here ya go...

Have you ever noticed how the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the American flag 13 times? Here's what each of those 13 folds mean:

The 1st fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The 2nd fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world.

The 4th fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, “Our Country”, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country right or wrong.

The 6th fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that We pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

The 7th fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for defense of our country since they were first born.

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews’ eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians’ eyes, God the Father, the , and Holy Spirit.

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding us of our nation’s motto, “In God We Trust.”

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges and freedoms we enjoy today.

Born Again Christians only need to chew, It's those left behind that have to swallow it.

You are on the right track as usual my brother. I have read several articles that submitted that the ACLU is a completely New Age/New World order organization whose main purpose was to sue different organizations to get The Lord out of schools, courts, etc. And everything they have done since their inception seems to support that.

Stay rooted in The Word. You've been blessed with a spirit of discernment.

It's a pretty special thing, I don't think too many Americans know about the whole traditional funeral as it was meant to be.

WOW! That is awesome, T. I have always wondered if there was any meaning or tradition to the folding of the flag. I figured there had to be since so much in the military is based on tradition. Thank you so much for posting this!

God's blessings always,

I'm not familiar enough with the ACLU to comment, but that's really awesome info on the flag folding......gee, T, I had to attend a military funeral (for lack of betters words...sorry) and it was brutal. It's so much more dramatic, especially when they play the bugle and fire off shots. I really couldn't keep it together then...I don't know how guys do it!!! I don't cry easily or often....but Wow....you guys are tough!!!

The ceremony (way, way, way aside from what it is) is very beautiful and regimented....but too sad!!

I'm not sure what it means but when everyone was surrounding the casket at the graveside they all went into a salute, but never threw it, just let their hands fall at their sides...you have any idea what the meant??? I just have an idea but I'm not sure.

You only throw a salute that has been returned, otherwise you just drop your arm down.

A friend of mine did a post about the folding of the flag, a very long time ago. He was an ex-army guy too. I was so touched reading the meaning of all the folds, I copied and pasted it! I'm not American but it just made me feel so patriotic towards your beautiful country! Since then of course I have become an honorary American so it moves me even more now! Thanks T!

Well we are happy to have you as an honorary American. I wish more actual Americans cared as much as you do.
