Why would the Catholic church choose???

Why would the Catholic church choose a
Jewish girl as one of their Holy icons?

I have nothing against the Catholic church,
so this is NOT a hate, rant or rave.

I just had this thought and wondered how they could attribute her so much love and not consider that she is Jewish.

I believe the LORD is trying to get the world to see that all things come back to
GOD. The Jewish God.

Because it is a cult. Most of its teachings are contrary to word of God. Mary, God Bless her is surely greatly dissapointed. You dont pray to her, dead saints or neither can a stupid chant forgive sin. There is one mediator between God and man and that is jesus.

This Nun and Priest is man depraving themselves to try and be Holy when there in none Holy but God....then they have all of these people in sexual perversions because of trying to act holy.

Peculiar question. Why would GOD choose a humble Jewish maiden? So far as the early prevalence of a class relegating women to a 'lower status' in relation to ministry, I believe this was done in part as compensation.

It is quite possible that Mary MAGDALENE had a higher status than we may realize. As the Gnostic sect tended to elevate her, the Early Roman Church wished to distance itself from this heresy in any way possible. This may have been another form of 'compensation.' Perhaps Mary the mother of Jesus was lifted up to counter that in part. But it is not only Mary. As Dennis indicated, many other saints are named, revered, venerated and prayed to. I believe part of this had to do with the belief that God is not a "God of the dead, but of the living." This combined with the idea of 'a great cloud of witnesses.' If the saints are alive with God, and we understand that in the most difficult of times we turn to those closest to God for assistance, this may well be where the concept originated. So far, so good. But the Roman Catholic church has gone well beyond this. Saints have been named and proven, which never existed (e.g. Christopher) One 'saint' referred to in an earlier post on the charismatics, supposedly spoke in 'unknown tongues' in missionary work for the RC Church. Truth is, he was studied in many languages and dialects. No miracle.

This whole Da Vinci Code crap may well have come from the period of the politicking prior to the Avignon Papacy, where at one time there were four claimants to the office of 'St. Peter' Rome had a fairly clear claim in that Peter was said to have been martyred there. In France, they had a need for important relics and such which somehow were believed to lend credibility to a claim. What more powerful 'relic' than surviving descendants of Jesus Christ? So twice they exhumed what were purportedly the bones of Mary Magdalene.

The practice of 'chanting' as referred to above may not have been unknown to the earliest Christians. John as a prisoner on the island of Patmos was 'in the Spirit on the Lord's day.' somehow transported to another realm in the midst of his worship. Paul speaks of once being caught up to 'the third heaven.' Rarely do we see such in most denominations today. When we are in such a state before God, surely we are able to receive his word and a sense of our own unworthiness more clearly.

As far as celibacy of ministers, Paul encouraged this as well. The early church believed Christ was returning in the next few days, weeks, months... The orders of priests and nuns which evolved from this idea sadly draws many who sense they are different. And it is a pity there is a need to put forth a face of unquestionability of the church, which has led to the institutionalized covering up of such sin for a looooong time.

The Roman Catholic Church cannot properly be called a cult. Mariology may. It could be said there is a cult of papal infallibility. A cult of the eucharist. A cult of saint worship. And each of these are or have been prevalent within the RC Church. But many Catholics do not hold to all the church teaches. And Rome is quite aware of this.

But God chose Mary...

Hello Hiz, and greetings from Rhema Bible Training Center! I made it, and I am in orientation for a few more days, then classes start this coming Monday in earnest...

As for your question, you have to go back WAAAAAAAY past Mary. We have in the gospels a lineage that goes back to Adam, and everyone in between. The story really starts with Abraham and Sarah, the Semetic "Adam and Eve" of the Jewish people. (that sounds slightly redundant, but it reinforces my point.... )

From obscurity, the Lord used tiny Israel and of Zion to become as it says in Isaiah, "the desire of all nations." We read that the fame of Israel spread, so that even a queen of a great nation, came to hear Solomon's wisdom when Israel was at the zenith of it's greatness.

So, to ask the question, "Why Mary?" (Proper Hebrew would name her Miriam for Myrrh, a sweet fragrance item used in the anointing oil, and very valuable.... you can have fun with the symbolic nature of the names and descriptions....), you have to ask the question, "Why Israel?" "Why Judah?"

You have to look at the issue of Divinity here, and not so much the human element. I Corinthians chapter 1 takes the approach of not looking at the outer things, or wisdom, or strength, or anything else other than to again look to the Lord, so that "no man can boast".... except in the Lord! I also refer you to Isaiah 55, and the reality that His ways and thoughts are not like ours.

As far as the Catholic issue is concerned, I believe they are following the historical aspects of the Bible in addressing her place in history. On the other side of the coin, as a former Catholic myself, and now a "Biblical Christian" in every sense of the word, I must also take exception with the traditions and veneration of Mary as something more than what the Bible teaches.

There are numerous issues with Catholicism that are at odds with Scripture, such as certain doctrines, traditions, rituals, etc. I will not address those, other than this one and only point. Mary, just like the Apostles and others whom we honor for being pioneers in building the Church, must never supercede, or dimish the due glory, honor, or worship that Christ Jesus' alone to receive.

We tend to make God into OUR image and likeness, rather than be transformed in our thinking by allowing the Holy Spirit to transform our thinking and worldview. The Lord will allow no such thing, and is ever focused on instilling His Truth in us via His Word by the Holy Spirit.

S, don't focus on the vessel, but focus on the Lord in all things. Mary was indeed a vessel, but only for a finite time. She is still a finite being like the rest of us, and if she were here today to explain it all, she would exalt and praise the Lord in our presence, and not walk about as if she were some great dignitary to be honored.. She would want Jesus to have all of the glory, praise, etc.

As we lift up the Lord, thank God that a little Jewsh girl answered her call to a destiny that helped to divide time and brought eternity to earth, which has yet to leave........

And now look at yourselves..... As we look at the grace, the favor, the mercy, and all blessings we have recieved, and continue to receive, consider this.... We may say, like her, "Why me?!" I offer this thought to remember forever.... It is not about you, but all about Him, that the Lord would be glorified. Isn't that reason enough?

For those of us who possess the Issachar anointing as stated in I Chronicles 12:32, as quoted by the Contemporary English Version (CEV) :

"200 leaders from Issachar, along with troops under their command--these leaders knew the right time to do what needed to be done;"

let us be like them, and know OUR season and time in the destiny to which we are called, lest we miss the mark. That is why Mary said she was the Lord's handmaiden, and she would let it be done unto her as the angel said.

Shall we not go forth and let it be done unto us as the Holy Spirit leads us? For all we know of this generation on the earth at this moment, and for the balance of time left for mankind, we may very well be the ones standing in the gap to usher in the final ingathering of souls before the coming of the Lord.

Either way, it is how we ought to Live, as if we were the only ones to carry forth His will. I am standing to account at this moment like Joshua (which by the way, is the Jewish name of Jesus (Jesus is the Greek name....), and declaring this statement:

"And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; BUT AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD. [!!!]

Joshua 24:15 (Amplified Bible)

The Lord bless you as you choose your destiny......

All I can say is that some Christians should read a history book....sad that we live in free nations and people want to remain ignorant.....well wont cut it on that day.

Isaiah 42:8 " I am the Lord; that is my name! And My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to graven images."
