Large And In Charge

When deciding to go see a movie, how do you decide if it’s viewable?
Title, rating, word of mouth, budget, or do you look to see if it’s edifying?

When picking out music, how do you decide what is acceptable?
Again title, word of mouth, artist, or do you listen closely to the lyrics to determine if it is edifying?

When going out with friends, who decides where you are going to hang out?
The obvious leader of the group, the one with the money, yourself, or do you make sure you go where you will not be placed in a compromising position?

When buying clothes, what fashions do you sport?
The latest according to the magazines, what your friends are wearing, your own, or do you just dress to edify God?

When talking to unbelievers, what kind of language do you use?
The same language that they are using, the same language you always used, street slang, or are you careful that your speech edifies God?

A lot of Christians today would call putting standards on these things legalism.
What do you call them?

Who is Large and in Charge of your life?

when i talk to unbelivers, i just use my everyday form of speech, i never try to sound like somebody else, i do, however, try to use simple terms, i avoid bombarding unbelivers with scripture, i take it one step at a time.

Life is an adventure.

A famous man (Augustine, I believe) once said....Love God and live as you please.

That about sums it up....except for overcoming all the wrong programming that our conscience's have all been filled with during our lives. We each have our own degrees of freedom with the Lord, and are called to practice some restraint with weaker believers, while maybe helping them out some too.

The school of life is always working on us in some or many ways.
Such is life.....

I agree, we all do have different degrees of conviction. Aside from staying faithful to God in not conforming to the things of this world, not all of us are going to be convicted as easily s others when it comes certain medias.
However I still am an avid practitioner of the principle of G.I.G.O. or gigo. Garbage-In-Garbage-Out.

Hi my brother I believe all these questions come to one thingMatthew 5:14-16 NKJV) "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. {15} "Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. {16} "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Secondly as we always say in computer language "cabbage in cabbage out" we have to be careful what we feel our bodies and minds with. Music is very powerful, if you hear a song and lyrics, they have a tremendous impact and will keep repeating itself all over and over in your mind. So if its edifying you will be edified.

The Bible also calles for seasoned speech with words that build and not destroy.
    God bless
Greetings Sister,
I am always uplifted by your comments and am thankful to have you as a friend. Very good points Sister, please keep visiting my blog.

Wise witness, sounds pretty effective. Not all unbelievers are familiar with the Christianeese language.
Thanks for commenting.

Good answer,
we should never enter into a place where we would feel uncomfortable to share the Lord with who we are around or with.

Yes....GIGO is a term I've liked and used a lot also. It is a lot of the reason for our overall fallen condition today. Lack of true knowledge is too, but bad input is even worse than none at all.

I don't think we need to be legalistic in all these things, if I am going to a movie. Anything in excess I believe would not be appropriate, but then I also believe that this would be a natural effect of a true Christian. Paul said he is many things to many people, this means the weak, we are weak, people have different personalities, and this should be mindful when witnessing to others who we are in relationships with. Some of my friends who are in the world, know my lifestyle and I can share the things of the Lord with them, if I couldn't do this then I couldn't be friends with them, this is in the hopes that someday they might be willing to subject themselves to a instructional teaching program that would save their souls. As far as the rest, like I said before we should lead a moderate lifestyle.

We shall know them by their FRUIT, no matter what they profess...

Ok I hear you, but maybe I don't understand you correctly. Are you saying that worldliness or carnality in moderation are OK as long as it is not in excess?

DEFINITELY NOT! I don't believe that a true Christian lives carnally or in worldliness. I just meant that I live a moderate lifestyle, meaning, I don't drive an expensive car, or have car paymnet, I don't spend my money in excess on myself, I don't live as the people of this world, however I have a few girlfriends and once in a while we might go out for dinner with them (my husband and because we hope someday by our lifestyle and sharing of experiences, that they might be interested in coming to a bible study to hear the word of God so that God could change them for the better, meaning rather than lusting after their husband/wife, they could learn "how" to love them. I hope you understand a little better?

We shall know them by their FRUIT, no matter what they profess...

Thank you very much for explaining, it is kind of you to be patient with me. I hope all the best for you and your husbands Bible study. May God bless your gatherings and anoint your words. Have you ever heard of Michael Rowan ministries? google his name and check out his DVD 'The Cry of The Lost' It cost about 20.00 but really convicting and filled with FIRE!
