Encouraging Words

Round one of the holiday rush has passed. I had a wonderful time with my family over Thanksgiving. They went home, my boys went to their Mothers and I found myself home alone most of the day yesterday.

So, what did I do? After getting a little extra sleep, taking care of a few odd jobs around the house, and making a trip to Walmart and the grocery store...I decided to get caught up on world news. How depressing!

I read depressing stories everywhere I turned. On-line, television, newspapers...each account revealed the sinful state of the world. Just a casual glance of the various headlines is a sad commentary on society!

Christians need encouraging words. In Philippians 2:19, Paul writes from prison saying, "But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state."

Paul needed encouragement. He needed some good news. Where did he look for encouragement and good news? In a report of how things were going with a group of believers. Where can we find encouraging words? From the fellowship with other believers and from the good news of the gospel of Jesus!

"...that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me." Romans 1:12

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." - part of Jim Elliot's October 28, 1949 journal entry

One life will soon be passed, only what's done for Christ will last!

How about this one for a start? I'm glad you are in our world here, Jim. I am convinced you make a Godly difference in each life you touch.

with a smile and a hug your way
