Feeling Down? Ever feel like your life holds you captive? Ever feel like the cares of this world are holding you down? We should remember what Jeremiah wrote to God's who were being held captive in Babylon. (I won't type out all the references, just turn to Jeremiah 29 and follow along) God, through Jeremiah, gave three instructions to follow when held captive: 1. Continue living according to God's plan (v.4-6) - Often we feel trapped by our situations and we become paralyzed with fear/doubt/worry/hurt...and we tend to retreat into a reclusive, protective state. Don't! God says keep on doing what I've told you to do. Keep on living. Don't let your situation control what you do! 2. Be a blessing to others in the midst of it all (v. 7) - God instructed His to seek the peace for the city in which they were held captive and to pray for them! Maybe it's a boss, or a former spouse, or a wayward that is making you "miserable"...pray for him/her, when they find peace you will have peace. 3. Refuse to listen to the lies (v. 8-9) - People say hurtful things...that doesn't make what they say the truth! When we are down, often, we begin to think negative things about ourselves. God instructs us not to listen - often, that includes not listening to yourself! Rather, we should listen to Jesus - the way, the truth and the life! Jeremiah also reminds us of God's goodness: 4. God keeps His promises (v10) - When God says He will do something - He does it! It might not be on our timetable, but it will be at the right time! Cling to His promises! 5. God promises a future filled with hope (v11) - This is one of my favorite verses! Insert your name and read it aloud. After reading it, refer to point 4. 6. God promises to be there (v12-14) - When we call on Him, He is there! Listening for you. When we seek Him, He is there! Waiting for you The past few weeks have been difficult. In the midst of all that's going on in my life, I turned to verse 11 and was compelled to read the entire chapter. In doing so, God revealed these truths. They have helped me. I hope they help you too! "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." - part of Jim Elliot's October 28, 1949 journal entry One life will soon be passed, only what's done for Christ will last! |

Jim, it's nice to know that in the midst of the impending chaos, His word has been your strength. I understand where you're coming from. This for me has been one year that has literally brought me to my knees and left me running for cover - So much seems to go wrong. Everything I've touched has seemed to go up in flames. I can't wait for it to end. Evenso, I can honestly say that but for the Lord, I'd have surely lost my mind. So steady on in confidence that He will surely make all things beautiful - yes indeed, in His time. tx

I see that you are still in doom and gloom, perhaps the holiday blues but here is a song to read when you have time. Perhaps, this will help you. I see that I need to read the book of Jeremiah again, this is the second reference to it tonight. The song is "There Is A River" There is a river that washes you clean There is a tree that marks the places you've been Blood that was spilled, although not your own, For all of your tears, are the wages for things you have done And all of those nights Spent alone in the darkness of your mind Give it up, Let go These are things you were never meant to shoulder There is a river that washes you clean There is a tree that marks the places you've been Blood that was spilled, although not your own For all of those tears, love will atone So, give up the right To control the waves that empty out your life Above wild skies Are the rays that break the shadows we design Give it up, let go These are things you were never meant to shoulder Give it up, let go There is a river that washes you clean There is a tree that marks the places you've been Blood that was spilled, although not your own For all of those things, love will atone I know the world can turn in different ways Most of the time, we're simply hanging on And under the signs of how we all behave We might find the place that we belong There is a river that washes you clean There is a tree that marks the places you've been Blood that was spilled, although not your own For all of these things, love will atone For all of those nights, that you cried all alone All of your tears, love will atone I will uplift you in prayer tonight. Feel His presence as you go to sleep. Blessings, Sheri (¯`•♥•´¯) ¤`•.♥.•´ ¤ (¯`•♥•´¯)
