Rightly Dividing

What does it mean to rightly divide the Word?
To understand the difference between good and evil
To interpret scripture according to how you see it as opposed to how others see it
To study them and discover what God's will is that leads to righteousness
All of the above
Other - please explain

It means to allows the Scripture to interpet itself rather than interjecting personal opinion or preference. It means to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you through the Word rather than you attempting to force a passage to fit your dogma.

I have misunderstood my own share of verses and passages. More than anything else, I misunderstood them because either I didn't not read or study them for myself, or because I didn't read them in context.

When I was a new believer I didn't understand the importance of studying for myself, so this led to a considerable ignorance on my part. Once deeply convicted of this, and I did begin to study for myself, and pray diligently over what I'd read, I began to see how, on so many occasions, I had misused and misquoted many verses and passages. It was a most humbling experience, to say the least.

Well-educated men and women can quote this Bible scholar or that theologian, nearly word for word - long portions of essays or articles, not just a small snippet here and there. The point is that they have been so studius to study other works about the Bible, and about Christian doctrine, but had in some ways neglected to study the Scriptures themselves. This leads to one being more familiar with what others had to say than what the Scriptures had to say, themselves. I certainly like discussing differences and how one got to their understanding and I have found very good conversations here on the blogs with wonderful Christians who also seek the scriptures for His proper interpretation.

Great Poll and very timely!
