AN INTERESTING BIRTHDAY

I had an interesting birthday.
It was Saturday, August 16.
I refused to clean the whole house that day, and my 's father decided he would visit, for the first time in, oh, about six months, maybe longer. He's caught in a time warp, feeling like he still has some authority around here. And because he is my 's father, I give him respect.
Also, he's a likable enough guy. He just gets on my nerves sometimes.
Like on my birthday.
He came to where I was relaxing outside, and asked me why, why? did I keep my married name after I divorced my husband? When I told him why, he said my answers had some validity, but still, HE would have changed his name back.
And he turned to me and said, "You need some help with the housework around here. It's not getting done."
Well, for one thing, it was my birthday. You bet your bottom dollar it wasn't gonna get done. I had decided I was going to sit on my rump or dance my heart out, whatever I pleased---but I WASN'T going to do housework. I felt like I should have told him, "Well, take off your shirt. The mop's on the porch." But like I said, he's caught somewhere in limbo, trying to be our leader, and trying to avoid responsibility---all at the same time. When you think about it, that must take a lot of energy...and be pretty confusing at times, as well. So, I just told him, yup, I sure do. Between me being in a band, starting a new business, keeping the garden and yard up, and struggling with keeping walking, and my going to college, having hours of homework, and working week-ends in order to help with bills, it's not easy. He shook his head, moaning, saying, "Yep, you need some help!"
I noticed he didn't offer any.
Oh, well.
My didn't put the legs of the barbecuer down before he started the coals, so it melted halfway through thing it was sitting on before I realized what was going on. I closed it and called for a hot pad---not before burning my hands---and my , who came running, stepped on the grill I had taken out of the cooker, burning her foot. She's very expressive. She hollered. The neighbor came running. Like I said...interesting.
Ice works wonders. She was able to walk the next day, and I was able to play keyboard for church.
My brought my three-year old grandson over.
He's so sweet. But he's a real stinker. One of his favorite things that day was to pick up the sprinkler he was running through and spray me with it. Fortunately, I like that kind of thing.
The cats weren't crazy about it...
My gave me really neat gifts.
I got wood chimes that complete the feel of being on an island when I'm on my deck playing my congas.
I got a hummingbird feeder. I have crocosmia, jasmine and butterfly bush, but our hummingbirds are here year round, and I've been wanting a feeder for a long time.
And I got a bird bath. The hummingbirds that are now swarming my yard get upset if I don't have the sprinkler going for them to play in. They actually come and hover, staring at me. So I was really glad to get that birdbath.
And my yard is more Eden-like than ever, as I sit out by the grapevine, playing hymns on my keyboard.
