AWAKE THOU THAT SLEEPETH......The Iranian Bear Will Arise At The End Time Regarding Persia as a member of the Russian-Islamic coalition of nations that attacks Israel in the Last Days (Ezekiel 38:5), the late Bible scholar John F. Walvoord wrote: “Persia has been easily identified as related to modern Iran which could easily supply an army, attacking Israel from the north, even though located to the east.” John MacArthur writes about the “bear” nation in Daniel 7:5 & 12, “This is Medo-Persia, with the greater “side” being Persia...As the second advent [Coming of Christ] draws near, all 3 empires [including Persia] in their descendants [Persia’s descendants are the Iranians] will be a part of the Roman phase [the Antichrist Kingdom] in its final form (Rev. 13:2). Iran is clearly shown in Bible prophecy to be an evil power in the Last Days. How remarkable that Iran is dominating today’s news, along with Israel, Jerusalem, and Iraq (Babylon). John Walvoord, Major Bible Prophecies,writes: Is there anything positive in the history of the Persians (Iran) toward God & His people Israel? Amazingly, the president of Iran has called for the extermination of Israel, but God put a different thought into the hearts of the early Persian kings. The events of the Medo-Persian Empire are important for their relationship to the restoration of Israel [in the 5th-6th century BC]. In the very first year of Cyrus the captives of Israel were given permission to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple (Ezra 1:1-4). Generally speaking, the Medo-Persian Empire was kinder to the Jewish faith than the Babylonians had been...It was Darius [the Great] who approved the final building of the temple. The fourth king, mentioned in Daniel 11:3, was probably Xerxes (486-465 B.C.), the one who appointed Esther [the Jewish woman of the Book Of Esther] as his queen. Amazingly, because the Persians (Iranians) released the Jews to return to Israel and rebuild Jerusalem and their Temple, Jesus was born, as prophesied by Micah, in Bethlehem, rather than in Babylon] Iran is now the only regional military power that poses a significant conventional military threat to Gulf stability. Iran has significant capabilities for asymmetric warfare, and poses the additional threat of proliferation. There is considerable evidence that it is developing both a long-range missile force and a range of weapons of mass destruction. It has never properly declared its holdings of chemical weapons, and the status of its biological weapons programs is unknown. The discoveries made by the IAEA since 2002 indicate that it is likely Iran will continue to covertly seek nuclear weapons. Iran is a significant military power by Gulf standards It has some 540,000 men under arms and over 350,000 reserves.They include 120,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guards trained for land and naval asymmetrical warfare. Iran's military also includes holdings of 1,613 main battle tanks, 21,600 other armored fighting vehicles, 3,200 artillery weapons, 306 combat aircraft, 60 attack helicopters, 3 submarines, 59 surface combatants, and 10 amphibious ships. "...Iran has obtained new anti-ship missiles and missile patrol craft from China, midget submarines from North Korea, submarines from Russia, and modern mines." The UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency is the world’s governing board that oversees and supposedly checks the proliferation of atomic weapons. It has unanimously passed a resolution demanding that Iran freeze its nuclear program. Yet in the face of all this international pressure, Iran maintains that it will continue to develop its nuclear program in defiance of the IAEA and the United Nations. Iran has also threatened to pull out of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty that it signed and appears willing to risk international economic isolation Ezekiel foretells that the Russian invasion against Israel will come in the latter days, and intimates that it will be timed to be a post-event to the peace-and-safety covenant that the Antichrist makes with Israel and her Arab neighbors. After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them." So now, with the history of Iran completed, lets take a trip into the book of Ezekiel and review the Russian-Iranian alliance prophecy of Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39. In the midst of all these world geo-political mechanisms stands the Axis of Evil.
