- WHEN YOU MISS ONE HOLY COMMUNION -

It is well for you to consider what you lose every time that you pass up Holy Communion.

1. You miss a personal visit with Jesus, Author of all spiritual energy and of all holiness;

2. You lose a special increase of sanctifying grace, which makes your soul more pleasing to God;

3. You lose a quota of sacramental grace which entitles you to special help in times of temptation and in the discharge of your daily duties;

4. You lose a precious opportunity of having all of your venial sins wiped away;

5. You miss the special preserving influence which each Holy Communion confers against the fires of passion;

6. You miss the opportunity of having remitted a part, or all, of the temporal punishments due to your sins;

7. You lose the spiritual joy, the sweetness and particular comfort that come from a fervent Holy Communion;

8. You lose a part of the glory that your body might enjoy at its resurrection on the Last Day;

9. You lose the greater degree of glory you would possess in Heaven for all eternity;

10. You may lose:

a) complete victory over some fault or passion;
b) some particular grace long prayed for;
c) the conversion or salvation of some soul;
d) deliverance of a relative or friend from Purgatory;
e) many graces for others, both the living and the dead.

Will a few extra minutes of sleep repay you for all these losses?

At the hour of death our greatest consolation will be the Masses we have heard and the Holy Communions received.

"Put all the good works in the world against one Holy Mass;
They will be as a grain of sand beside a mountain"
– Saint John Vianney

- ACT OF LOVE AT COMMUNION -

O God, all that I am and all that I have is from You. You have given me my gifts of body and soul. You have numbered me among Your favored . You have showered me with countless graces and blessings. From all eternity You have thought of me and loved me. How shall I ever love You in return?

And now in Your merciful goodness You are coming into my soul to unite Yourself most intimately with me. You came into the world for love of man, but now You are coming from the altar for love of me. You are coming to fill my heart with Your holy love, my Creator, my Redeemer, my Sanctifier, my God.

O Jesus, I want to return this love. I want to love You with all the powers of my soul. I want to belong only to You, to consecrate myself to You alone. Jesus, let me live for You; let me die for You. Living and dying may I be Yours.

SWEET LOVELY ANGEL

Thank you, Angel, for your thoughts on communion. I had some evangelical (born-again) Catholic leaders in the non-denominational youth group I was in as a child. They took me to a catholic service. When the priest brought the communion out and everybody sang as the host passed by, my friends explained that the ritual was about seeing ourselves as too holy for the host.(?) (I may be inaccurate as it's been 26 years since that day.)

They thought communion was for all in the church, who believed in Jesus Christ as their savior. They didn't join into the singing.

They believed Jesus' blood had been shed for their purification and that communion was a symbol of that. Not taking communion because one feels too unclean isn't the point of communion. It's admitting we need Jesus.

I guess that's partially what I hear in your post here.

Take care. Thanks again for your postings.
