Sniff, Snort, Hack, Hack, Hack

It's nearly 1:30am and I just got home from our local all night drug store. The punkenstein is sick as a and at this point, there isn't much else I can do.

Don't you just hate it when your are sick and there is only so much you can do?

His chest is smeared with Vicks Vapor Rub. The latest Nighttime liquid cold medicine has been poured down his throat. He is kicked up on our new couch with nearly every pillow that we own. The floor nearby is littered with wadded up snotty tissues.

I even bought the teddy bear suckers that are supposed to numb your throat while quieting your cough. (Shhh don't tell anyone. He's almost 16 so it's not real cool for anyone to know you like the teddy bear suckers even though you are sick as a dog!)

So even though he is a punkenstein who is big and smelly, he is still my baby. And I will try to keep my eyes open until his sniff, snort, hack, hack hack turns into semi peaceful snoring.

Come on nighttime cold meds... kick those puppies into gear and let my punkenstein rest so that I can too.

Hey lady, Its after 5 now...how is he doing? Have you slept yet? My prayers are with you both for health and rest. Do you give him Echinecia? Its good stuff...won't help this time but might help avoid next time. Of course there is the zinc and red pepper pills..those help break down the mucus naturally.

Also, its amazing what spraying down the room with Fabreeze Allergen formula will do for you.

Luckily I have both of those items. He will be on his own while I am at work. But if he is anything at all like me, he will feel better during the daytime but always worse at night... and at night, I can be here for him.

I slept from 2:30am-6am. My shirt is in the dryer and I am about ready to make a really large Mocha. This is my second night in a row without my solid five hours of sleep. I love that Fabreeze stuff. I frequently spray the punkenstein and his friends down with it when they come back in from skateboarding. At least that way, I can breathe!! LOL

Thank you for your prayers Jean. I do appreciate it. I think staying up with sick kiddos is just one of those things that come with being a mom. We all do it and we all would rather be sick ourselves than our children. God bless you!

I think I would enjoy it more at 7pm instead of 2am! LOL

You're making me tear up, OC. No matter how big and smelly they get ~ they are always our babies! My 12 yr old girl can now look me directly in the eye - geez. She is always walking around the house spouting text message abbreviations like IDK (I Don't Know), TISB (This Is So Boring) and OMG - I made her change it to OMGosh, though.

Oh I'll be praying for your boys too! When they are sick, it's like nothing has changed other than the loudness of the snoring or the amount of couch they now take up.

Those three little words in the middle of the night that are said as if they took all the energy of the world to get past their lips and I am wide awake: "Mom, I'm sick!" Okay maybe not fully awake... well awake enough to realize that perhaps I should put on some pants before I hop in the car while wearing my houseshoes and head off to the 24 hour drug store down the street.

And why do I do it? When this boy is well, does he take out the garbage without me telling him 100 times? No! Does he keep his room in such shape that I needed worry that the health inspector may show up at my house and condemn it? No! Does he turn his socks right side out before I am supposed to wash them after he has worn them for three days straight? No!

Why do we do it? Because despite it all, we love those little dirty faced boys. And your child being sick is worse than when you are sick yourself.

Connie, I know you and everyone else who has kids totally understands and has been there so many nights. So how are YOU feeling these days girl??

I homeschool my son and not too long ago he was studying Mark Twain. A part of the study had to do with dialogue. He read the Jumping Frog of Calavaras County and had a lot of trouble understanding the dialogue. So as a part of the study, he had to write a short story using dialogue that represents the time period of his story. He used text abbreviations through the entire thing! LOL
