If you are going to Hell, can I have your chocolates?

The 20th anniversary of my divorce is this Valentine's Day. I still believe it was the best money I ever spent. But just because I do not celebrate it traditionally doesn't mean that I don't believe in love or doing something special for the one you love. In fact. I so believe in love that I think we should celebrate those we love all the time.

I also believe we should celebrate His love for us each day as well as we honor Him with all we do and how we do it, but that's a given!

There are those who believe no one should celebrate Valentine's Day due to it's pagan past. There are about 101 various stories on who St. Valentine might have been or is believed to have been as well as a virtual cornucopia of variations of how the day was originally started. As one of my favorite Irish proverbs states, "There are two sides to every story and 12 versions of every song."

One of such these stories of Valentine's Day early beginnings is that it was some sort of lottery so to speak where participants drew names of the females in the village that would be their partner between the sheets for the coming year. I can't imagine that being very romantic especially if the village dung salesman draws your name. This was medievil times. I imagine the men being harrier and smellier and no Febreze!!

Supposedly, the church came along and was, of course, appalled and changed the holiday to one where the male participants now drew the names of saints within the church to immulate for the coming year. Yes, that went over like a lead balloon... and fast forward to today where it has become a commercialized smorgesboard of diamond sales, waxy chocolate hearts, carnations, roses and all things with pink or red hearts on them.

A local radio station really promotes the romantic part of Valentine's Day by encouraging its male listeners to go all out with a romantic night for the special ladies in their life. Of course that same radio station promotes something called Steak-N-BJ Day for March 14th in which the men get pay back.

Between consenting adults, preferably married ones, I don't have a problem with this either. Because quite frankly if you are going to be legalistic enough to think that you aren't a real Christian if you celebrate Valentine's Day, then you pretty much shouldn't celebrate any holidays except for Thanksgiving which is the only holiday that I know of that doesn't have any ties to anything other than being thankful to God.

And I bet PETA members still will say you are going to Hell for the slaughter of all those poor turkeys.

I don't know why we put God in a box. He can make good out of anything. If you don't know what I mean, take a look around here... Are you aware this site is owned by Penthouse?? Would a "real" Christian even come here?

"Who is this man who dines with tax collectors and thieves?"

If you want to celebrate Valentine's Day, go for it. Do it with gusto. Just as we do our best in all things for His glory!

Personally, I don't need stale chocolates that have been on the shelf since January 2 to know that I am loved. I know He loves me. At this time in my life, His grace and love is all I need. I totally get the His grace is sufficient thing because it REALLY is!!

I can't even see myself married again now. I guess I am truly comfortable in my own skin and where I am in my life. And I am truly good with getting some of those chocolates for less than 1/2 the price on February 15th! Heck, I might even buy myself some flowers on the cheap too!

Good on you As for Penthouse,,,I became aware of that....It pulls at my conscience.....Jesus Christ went where we would assume 'real Christians' wouldn't tread....It's about the deliverance............Shalom

Thanks for your comments. I figure if Christians only hung out with other Christians, there would be no disciples.... Christ would be the only one! I just hope others see Him in me!

Well thank you Cory. I like it when people do things for me.

Don't worry about what others think or say about holidays. Yeah, nearly all of them have pagan aspects, but they also have godly aspects. God can take things designed for evil and use them for good.
BTW nice to see you still around.

You got that right Terri. You always hear about people's regrets that they didn't tell someone what they really meant to them. No one ever says "I should have watched more television!" We should take the opportunity as often as possible to let those we love know that we love them and especially God, be it today or every day!

Happy Valentine's Day to you, my sister of the purple font! May His love fill your heart and soul. My chocolate day will be tomorrow when it's all on sale! I'm so cheap! LOL

Thank you so much for your kind comments. I love what you said about Jesus. What a wonderful example you gave of His love. His touch was pure love not just to a woman but a woman who was a outcast even among women. She was untouchable/unlovable because of her condition. And yet, He loved her so much that He would touch the untouchable with love for the unlovable. Jesus did that thing quite a bit! It still blows me away that He touched me with His love! God bless you girl!!
