Step out on the water!

Do you ever find it easier to sit in a tossing boat than to step out on the water and toward Jesus? Sometimes it seems that the waves around the boat might consume us, and that calm water may never be at hand. I think on the story in Matt 14:22-33, Peter was out on the boat fishing and a great storm came about out of nowhere. Jesus walked out on the water, and called to Peter "Come" and he did. But once he saw all around him, he became fearful and began to sink. I reflected on this for my own life, a woman with a very vague idea of what Jesus wants her to do with herself, in general. Just when it seems all is right, something turns and all you can see are the storm clouds. Waiting for God to speak, can seem like a storm in itself, which direction to go and what to do next. I wait calmy, but at times with fear how my life will turn out. Trying to keep scripture at hand, not to worry about my life and let God control it's outcome. How sometimes I want to stay out on the boat, and can't imagine, that I must step out on the water to truly follow Jesus. Jesus is calling me to come.
