I would have to say absolutely yes! There is plenty of corollary evidence to show this to be true. Many long time married couple have died within days of each other. Call it what you want, but I say they died of broken hearts.

totally agree with prodigal...... yes, they can. Ive seen it happen. Just visit some hospitals, palliative care or emergency wards... and follow up the families of the ones they have lost .... sadly, it happens a lot more than people realize. thats part of the whole 'ministering into hopelessness and despair' comes in....... sometimes. When my mom died, my immediate junior brother could not stand it. He was in deep grief for her and 6 months later was diagnosed for having leukemia. In les than 6 months later from the diagnose we buried him.

As all have said before, Yes; people can in a particular circumstances loose the Will to live.
