Happy Valentine's Day

Hi all my BCer friends,

Generally Valentine's Day is not a biggie for me... pretty much like every other day...except I like to get something special and a nice card each for my two dear daughters and a few cards for very close family and friends... I don't expect much for me... This Valentine's Day of 2009 ,however; I am feeling much different. I am seeing things in a BRAND NEW LIGHT. I think in this World were there is much confusion, fear, despair, anxiety, grief and loss. I still see there is so much true Love... that cannot be relegated to simple oooey gooey , syrupy, drippy romantic love. This Love I am talking about is the Love like when dedicated, mature people from Salvation Army and dedicated volunteers go out on the downtown streets in the cold, dark early(or late) hours of the night and give out food, hot soup and blankets...and something much more important... people who reach , touch, listen, embrace and by their very presence say loud and clear I am here with you in your darkest hours. They don't do this just once. They do it consistently week by week .. coming back to see more heart-ache, people on the edge and they do it when the local ????government has washed their hands of these very people who previously had been productive, responsible tax-paying citizens. This is Love in action. I see it downtown every day in little ways where the people who spend most of their lives their do little things, little Acts of Human Kindness... opening a door for someone, offering a disabled person or senior person a seat on a usually crowded bus, when people take the time to know a street person ...not just with money but by ACTUALLY just hanging out with this person and getting to know about his or her life and that person sharing about their life in turn, by people who give bus tickets to a stranger who need a ride home on a very cold winter day, by giving someone new in town directions, by dropping some change in a street performer's hat and taking a minute or two to listen and tell them they were appreciated . These usually taken for granted buskers perform a very necessary job for us humans wandering around down here. They make us slow down and take the time to appreciate something beautiful and heart-felt when the general pace of the place is enough to make a race car driver's head spin. In plain terms I am saying we are wound up so tight with our very important life we cannot or do not take 30 seconds to see the beauty right in front of our noses. So.... I know I got off topic... but I want to end my blog with two more very important types of Love. I think the thing that moves me to tears the most is to see the gentle naivite of a young and how their smile can melt the coldest hard. A simple expression of trust and joy... that has not been destroyed by years . Second.... the one person who started the ball rolling in Agape, Unconditional Love....our Lord Jesus Christ coming to earth, leaving all that was comfortable and regular, trying to teach as foolish, selfish, grasping ... that... if we look without and within and really take the time to acknowledge the SACREDNESS of what we discover there then we can turn the World right side up and really LOVE, PEACE, UNITY , and TRUST can occur. So much better than this is that when we learn this only really important lesson....wow... nothing that is dark, dismissive, dangerous or despairing can stand before it. This Unconditonal Love is so strong, eternal and consistent.. it will destroy all the evil that comes to stop it..So...let us pull together and believe that it is possible and we can do it... in our families, communities, churches, wherever people are and meet... because that's where is needs to begin .....

Don't ever doubt that it will grow and take off and never stop..

All things are possible to those that trust in the Lord.

Amen..

hugs, peace, blessing, and of course Love to all my friends here on BC..

pass it on.
