Leadership - given to both genders?????

If leadership is given by God to both genders, does that have the potential of being a difficulty in marriage when in the bible it mentions the man being the leader?

or

do you think that we have to move into the culture of today (and in the culture of the day in the bible is not relevant) and christian marriages can be successful as a partnership serving the Lord?

Ruth,
Originally, Adam and Eve were co-regents over the Garden of Eden. Eve forfeited the authority for women. God has hence ordained men as head of the household. That doesn't give the men right to be dictators. Any God-fear Christian husband will tread his wife as his equal and closest human advisor in all decisions. Just because our culture doesn't recognize the Biblical way, it doesn't mean that we reject the Bible and what God has ordained. It means that we stand out even more as a light in a dark and dying world to set the example of God's plan.

The word 'obey' in the marriage vows can be misconstrued and this can damage a marriage, if not seen in the right way - Gods way.

Ruth,
Keep in mind that the word "help-mate" that is applied to woman is also applied to God 17 out of the 19 times in the Bible. In other words, God doesn't consider this a belittling title. It just shows that us guys are doomed without women! LOL!

Let women be silent in congrigation, does not mean women must not speak the word of God or preach. There were women prophets and leaders even in biblical time. Its from totally other contects. Women has tendency to talk a lot and often coming to cynagoga or early church, like even today they do not sit quiet to lesson the gospel but talk other matter, disturbing others, so it was given advice to those women to keep quiet so that word of God can be priched. Therefore it was said let women be silet in church.

But I do not think its a problem if its not made one. Remember others were called to pastors, others to prophets, others to teachers...If God has called its good to fullfil the call. Woman preachers are there today and has always been, I do not think God does look at the sex. He said I am looking whome to send....If you are the one he can send, He must be happy. Being preacher does not mean you are no longer woman.(Woman is called evangelist I think, not preast.)Ps. where it is said that men are to be leaders???
(I hope we do not mix now two differen thigs here. Women and men and husbands and wifes.)

Prodicalson1963, Well, you made me LOL!!!!!
I like ODIMMS56's last statement, "I hope we do not mix now two different things here. Women and men and husbands and wives." The Bible is very clear that the husband is the covering, protector and leader in the union of husband and wife. "Just as Christ..." This does not say that the woman cannot lead outside this realationship. The man needs to, through love and devotion, create an atmosphere in which his wife feels safe. Safe enough to argue her points, safe enough to trust, safe enough to yeild if necessary. The responsibility to nurture this type of atmosphere of love and trust belongs to both partners.

Its a long story related to my marriage and that I said 'obey' thinking that my husband would discuss issues and make a decision based on our discussion. Consequently I found out he didn't make hardly any decisions, discuss anything - just said yes or put his foot down - no discussion. No leadership, partnership, companionship. I died inside.

I wasn't a chistian until I divorced, but have a christian background. I thought I was doing the right thing in saying 'obey'.

I realise that women can be leaders in the workplace and just wondered how that would impact on a marriage.

That's the basics around my thought process. Obviously there is a lot more detail that happened but that's how I can best explain it I think.
