Vatican's introduction of new sins....... So the Vatican has introduced a new list of seven mortal sins to supplement its traditional list of seven deadly sins. The seven deadly sins - lust, gluttony, avarice, sloth, anger, envy and pride - were introduced in the 6th century under Pope Gregory and popularized by Dante in his famous Inferno. For centuries Catholics have been encouraged to substitute in their place the seven holy virtues: chastity, abstinence, temperance, diligence, patience, kindness and humility. The Catholic Church is supplementing this list of seven deadly sins with seven new mortal sins: environmental pollution, genetic manipulation, accumulating excessive wealth, inflicting poverty, drug trafficking and consumption, participating in morally debatable experiments, and the violation of fundamental rights of human nature. We do need to look carefully at all these new sins especially the one pertaining to our use of the environment. The world is slowly crumbling and we have only one planet on which to live for ourselves and our grandchildren. The one sin about wealth kind of bothers me though. I see nothing about the sin of power either. Seems to me the pope should take heed to his own words. He sits on the biggest amount of wealth in the world-- the Vatican. He has the biggest art gallery in the world. He could eliminate Aids in Africa with the sale of just a few treasures from the Vatican. In fact-- there are many wealthy people who do a great service to others with their money. Time for the pope to practice what he preaches and divest himself of all that wealth if he wants to preach poverty! When I left the Catholic church after serving for ten years they cut me a cheque for $200.00 . I don't begrudge the education I received but I did serve on the missions without pay for two years. THere was no pension for that either-- all monies were handed over to the church. Time to practice what you preach! |

To be really honest, since the Catholic Church decided it was their job to change the 4th Commandment, the Sabbath Commandment to the first day of the week, instead of the 7th day of the week, to celebrate Sunday as the Sabbath... then I suppose it shouldnt surprise us if they decide new meanings of what sin is as well. The only definition of what sin is, in the Scriptures is that "sin is the transgression of the Law" 1Jn:3:4: Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. They changed the commandments of God, so nothing should surprise us Ti:2:14: Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity

Thanks JustChristian for the comment. No, I had not heard of this before. By the way I am not anti-Catholic...just a critical thinker. There are many good people within the Catholic church and still great leaders there. I am no fan of the current pope though. I think he spent far too much time already trying to make a saint out of John Paul 11-- who should have been put on trial for turning a blind eye to all those pedophile cases around the world and especially in the United States. Time for some HUGE changes in the Catholic Church. Thank God for Martin Luther! We need him back! God bless! I am not an anti-catholic either, for I even blogged about how it is I am, ah, a very different kind of catholic.. I was brought up in an eastern belief, and lived amongst those of the western. Funny, as I got older, and attended a western church once, I seemed to be able to follow what the procedures where, like a monkey see, monkey do kinda thing...Oh yeah, now I stand...Now I kneel....Now I sit.....Hey, they do the same thing as the easterners...Then, when I went up to take communion, this priest put what looked like a huge alka-seltzer in my mouth, and that's when I noticed something was different....I was use to getting a cube of fresh baked bread soaked in wine..... But other then that, all the rest seemed the same...... I like to point out to catholics that I know, that when they enter their church, there is a board on the wall, which has which verses of the bible, which will be touched on that week...I ask them, if you are being feed the bible, two verses a week, how long would it take to read the whole bible? And that's if they touch on every verse, and they don't.... Any way, I am sure our Father in Heaven has His watchmen inside the Catholic realm all ready, marking who is, and who is not. No King but CHRIST JESUS!!!

Greetings Heis, I wonder why the Vatican is spending so much money building an observatory in Antarctica? What are they looking for? Just wondering Heis, did you know that it was Gaius Caesar, aka, Caligula, who built the palace known as the Vatican? Also, it was Gaius, aka, Caligula, who was the first Caesar to play a role in a theater, where he dressed as a priest who would hit a victim over the head with a mallet..The role in the play, which he played, was known as the "Popa" ...Suetonius writes about this account in his book, "The Twelve Caesars".
