I need help with a Massey Ferguson 88 Tractor Anyone out there in the farming community who can offer advice as to what to do with my newly acquired tractor? The power steering is gone and I am a zero at mechanics. So if anyone is out there and can lend a hand--- please let me know what to do. Otherwise if you have no idea what I am talking about-- please say a prayer that I can solve this problem or sell it! Thanks and God bless you all! |

Greetings Heis, I seen your post at my post, and say, no problem, you are welcome....Where to start...Look at your tractors steering wheel. On the engine side of the fire wall, (The wall between where you sit and the engine compartment), and follow the approximately one inch square rod, connected by linkage, down near where your engine has belts, and see if one of these belts, connects to a unit, where the steering rod enters. This would be your hydraulic pump. Depending if you have a pump and motor (The actual part that turns the wheels linkage rods) together, or two separate units, will not matter..Look for excessive oil leakage to any of these parts, or around this area, and any associated lines, and you may determine if you have a leak in the system. It's a pretty easy closed system, and by checking the few things I have mentioned above, will help you determine what part has failed...Remember to make sure there is fluid in the pump reservoir, for this is necessary to have, even if the system has a leak, to show where the leak may be... No King but CHRIST JESUS!!!

Greetings, Not that I am an expert on tractors, cars, or cycles, I do know systems...I would guess the steering rod, coming from the steering wheel, goes to a large box in the engine compartment. This box, guessing you have power steering, is the hydraulic pump. Check the lines to see if they are broken, Check the box/unit itself to see if it is cracked. Check to see if the drive belt has proper tension and connected to the pulley wheel. Check the fluid reservoir to make sure it has fluid.. If no cracks, or line brakes, or broken belts, or loss of fluid in the reservoir, then you may have a bad pump/power steering unit... Hope this helps. No King but CHRIST JESUS!!!
