Questions about legalism and Grace - Long read but covers it all.

Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God. For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.

But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed hi life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus. Can we boast, then that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law. After all, is God the God of the Jews only? Isn't he also the God of the Gentiles? Of course he is. There is only on God and he makes people right with himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles. Well then, if we emphasize faith, does this mean that we can forget about the law? Of course not. In fact only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.

When some speak of obedience I believe it's very terminology is misinterpreted sometimes. We are saved by His grace thru faith, only. But our lives should reflect the love of the Christ spirit in how we relate to others in our life. One can never not sin, but we all have the capability to love as Jesus commands. Obedience is mearly the result of our love not an effort to do things for extra favors from the Lord. I hope that this helps.

Romans 3:19-31 says it well.

Blessings to those searching,

Sheri

I obey Him because I love Him and want to please Him.

This is very deep and a correct Biblical statement of Grace and our justification before God. The other truth that you present, that many people gloss over, is that we are "Acquitted," we will all be pardoned. All believers will come before the Judgment Seat of Christ according to Paul, who states, we will "all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad” (2 Cor 5:10). Before we experience the wonderful, all Christians will come before the judgment seat of Christ. For this to happen, it means our sins are not yet forgotten even while we live as forgiven Christians and in GRACE, but at the Judgment Seat (BEMA Seat) we will be acquitted, we will be pardoned for our sins. Thanks Sheri!

This is a good starting point-- yes salvation there's nothing we can do but put our trust in Him. Us attempting to do anything is like saying, the cross was not enough and the cross was more than enough. I don't obey because it scores points with God, but because it delights His heart-- But it's not just obedience-- it's the attitude with the obedience. I'm really seeing that with my kids. When I ask them to clean up there stuff, and I get stomping and attitude and halfheartedness- that doesn't thrill me- sure the work is done, but there's so much more to it. It thrills me when I ask something and I get a "I would love to" and the quality of work is excellent- that thrills me.

I have much to learn. Thanks for sharing.
