RESPOND TO JESUS IN FAITH AND WATCH.....

Don’t be like the Pharisees who saw this blind guy healed and they didn’t care.

If you’re the skeptic or don’t know the answers, ask questions. There’s no question that you’re asking today that hasn’t been asked in 2000 years of Christianity. I can assure you you're not going to come up with a new question. Now there are two types of skeptics. There’s the one type of skeptic like the Pharisee who said, “I know what’s right, with conviction”. "I’m a skeptic, but I’m right.” Another skeptic will say, “I’m going to keep asking because I have questions or perhaps something just doesn’t line up with scriptures."

Some of you here understand. You cover it well. You hide it well. You live in a nice house. You drive a nice car. But I know with some of you, there is some hurt from your past. It might be relational hurt. It might be parent-family strife in your house. There are addictions in here that you can’t shake. You’ve made bad decisions. Whatever it is, you hurt and react or hurt and are silent.

So how do we act as a Christian's dispite all of this. When you hear about a friend who has come to Christ, you ought to throw a little party. If you see that something needs done to help, jump in and do it. You hear of a friend who would just normally come on Sunday morning but all of a sudden takes that step of faith and gets involved in a small group, when you hear that, you ought to go, "Wow! That’s great!" Because if you are not celebrating anybody’s spiritual growth, here’s what it means as a follower of Christ: you have become hard to the ways of God. Can you look around and say, I’ve got a friend who’s now reading the Bible and just go, "That’s cool." If you are not experiencing these joys then perhaps you need to look into you heart.

You may look for opportunities to share your story. When I was in high school, this is what I was taught about witnessing. You may have had a similar experience. I was taught that you needed to learn these three major Bible verses ‒ We’d learn these three Bible verses, and the idea was if you were in an elevator with this stranger who was a non-Christian, you could get in that elevator, and by the time it got to the top of the hotel, like the 20th floor, you could have walked that person through those four Bible verses and prayed for that person to become a Christian. I thought that’s what evangelism was as a high school student. Haha Yes, I have seen that being a Christ follower is so much more.

Then over the years, let me tell you what I’ve learned. I’ve learned that everybody has a story, and they want to be listened to before they want to be preached at. Several of my friends came to Christ just from listening to them. The Holy Spirit that shines brought conviction and they wanted it too. Have you ever had that happen?

But somehow along the way some picked up some false notions about Christianity. This was very prevalent in Maui because of all of the Idolatry and false myths about Christianity that have evolved in the last 3 generations and are very real and active on the islands.

Sometimes teaching of scriptures is not such a bad thing either because we can learn from each other, compare notes, listen to sermons, and it's good to read scriptures and have them imbeded in our minds as we grow in Christ.

You have a story, I have a story of how I came to Jesus, and then there is God’s story. If I take the time to listen to your story and care about you as a friend, chances are there is going to be some intersection between my story and God’s story and we might just find that we are heading in the same direction.

God, we want to worship You. We want to worship You with our lives. I know there are some people here today who are just hurting so badly they don’t know how to worship You because all they’re thinking about is their pain. I pray that You would meet them like You met the blind beggar and heal them of their hurt. And, God, there are some people here who are skeptics, who’ve got so many questions. They’re just not sure what to do with those questions. I pray that You would, in the way that only You can, provide them answers through other people, through Your word, through their study and their sincere investigation. God, I know there are followers here today who know You and have a relationship with You. God, I pray that You would help them to look at changed lives, to see Your power, for them not to focus on their problems but to see how You could take their problems and reveal Your power. God, that we might be different as we walk out of here today. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Jude 2: "May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you today."
