FROM BEING WORLDLY RICH TO SPIRITUALLY RICH my journey in Hawaii

When we put God in charge of our destiny things begin to happen that creates this harmony and peace in our lives. The interesting thing is we often resist giving up control. Even the most faithful fail. My experience has been that when I declare what I want in life, it starts in our mind and comes back to me as an experience. We should never underestimate or limit God's power.

After getting my luggage and rounding up a taxi which would get me to my destination, I embarked on my first night in Hawaii. There was a place that home-less people could go to close to a place called Big Beach. They allowed campers to pitch temporary tents. I assembled my designer "Gary Fisher" bicycle with the assistance of a stranger and started peddling. (Notice the pride here.)

The next morning I secured my minor possessions with a fellow camper and departed on my journey to see where God would lead me. I went to a local five and dime and got a muffin, then spoke to a few people outside. One of the typical questions asked when you look lost is "How did you get here?" This is the only state where you get asked this question. I guess because in Hawaii you are either poor or rich, literally. It's funny how much witnessing was done in those early days after getting there.

I was then led to a small clearing where there was a wooded area of tents with small areas cleared resembling each persons yard or property. I found it amazing that human nature even at this level of existance still feels that you had to claim your space. I guess it's that territorial instinct in us. They even had a clothes line made of twigs and a door made out of wooden pieces tied together. The most interesting thing was a trip wire made out of strings and twigs. I wondered why this was positioned across the path. I was informed that it notified you if someone had been in your yard. If the wire was on the ground then it is possible that you have had trespassers and even more possible that your stuff would be gone.

I had made my way to a town called Kiehi. Food was plentiful at the Catholic church. It was time for a good nights sleep and the second I layed my head down I don't remember another thing as thoughts ran through my mind wondering how people could actually live like this. My next day would be full of organizing and planning even though I was suppose to be letting God direct, eliminating pride and getting back to basics, I still had not let it go. I still desired at least a little more comforts in life than this.

It's funny, tears just came to my eyes reminising about these life experiences. Yes, I feel that I will be back there someday and this 1 year trip was only laying the groundwork for the bigger picture ahead.

This is so exciting to me. You know God always has a purpose for what we do in our lives when we are walking with Him... He had a purpose for your trip to Hawaii and one day you will fully understand whatever it is/was.

Can't wait to read your next one

Stepping out on faith is the most difficult thing to do but is also

the most rewarding.

I am praying for you.

This is an interesting post.
We each have to find our way. With me it's that I tend to get in the way of things. But, i'm slowly learning. Thanks for the post.

Very interesting experience!

I once slept under the bridge in my university town in Germany with some homeless folks to find out what its like... it was in January and very cold you had to put your nose inside the sleeping bag they told me... it helped! well I was glad I could return to my student shared apartment the next night... to feel like I had a choice!
