What does that mean in English not Christianese?

We need to realize that this is the experience of lost and un churched people when they choose to attend a church that communicates God’s truth in, what I call, “Christianese.”

Whether you know it or not, this is the language most churches all over the world are speaking. “Christianese” is the private language of any given church’s culture and tradition. As with all languages, it is clearly understood and considered beautiful by those who have been raised with it. The only problem is that only insiders can understand and appreciate it.

When outsiders, either un churched or different-churched people, attend a church that speaks Christianese, they don’t get it. They have no clue what’s being said. It’s like a foreign language to them.”

FOR DISCUSSION: Let’s start a list of the top “Christianese” words we’re all guilty of using.

List at least one -- even if you don't know what it means yourself.

Some examples to get you started: slain in the spirit, let go let God, fruit of the spirit, old man/new man...

I don't see any problem with Biblical terms. if people don't know them, just teach them.

As for other teams that some people use in some churches, I don't know. They are usually not based on the Bible anyway. In the end, that's what matters.

"salvation"... (we are blind and clueless about this one )...
"water of Life/ Living water(s )" (that's a HUGE pearl )
"Sanctify you wholly" (another pearl )
"blood of Christ"- (not what we think it was )
"fruit" (also not what we think it is )
"WORKS" (MASSIVE PEARL )
"Kingdom of God" (a result- not a destination )
"His righteousness" (this one is totally misunderstood )
"Tree of life in the middle of the kingdom" (another pearl )
"Overcomers" (wholly mis defined )
Just a few more terms. No pontification this time.
Except "stop sinning"- if you want to KNOW TRUTH.

"holy Spirit"... one of the treasures Jesus spoke of that we have NO clue about.
"comforter" see above x 100 0r even x 1,000,000-- We are clueless what "comforter" means.
"The Father"- since Jesus said we do not KNOW who/what The Father is.
"The Son"- since Jesus said we do not know whom/what that is.
"new wine"- we remain clueless.
"GOSPEL"- absolutely the treasure trove still hidden in the field
"forgiveness" used very badly out of context almost always
"Justified / Justification"- used frivolously by christians
"Truth"... something we think is debatable
"Eternal Life"-- mis defined in every way possible
"sin"... we are clueless within the context of the Gospel Jesus taught
"way to life"- fully and completely clueless here
"Angels"- misidentified and badly misunderstood
"God's will for our lives"- Is it real... or is it false doctrine
"self righteousness"- misdefined and used as a scourge

Just a few more fun ones to think about.

I love all of these, you all have thought of more than I did. I know there must be more then. Does anyone know what they really mean. Pick one, if you do...and please explain.

New wine- Once you experience this mataphore in reality- the thing you will have thought was "the water of life"- will indeed change into wine yet again. Don't forget what wine does to you when you get too much- "New wine"- "Living water" is a matching metaphore for several other water references- each slightly different- but each- will when "found and drunk" will finally dawn on you- "OMG- IT's REAL!!!" and the extacy of the moment will either cause you to doubt- or elevate you completely out of this world's sense of reality into HIS pure Grace and utter slavery to Him alone. The water into wine story at the marriage- was put there as a wholly symbolic reminder of why it's best to do as He says- without the jars of water- there would have been no wine... The servants were the key to the story- not the "miracle". We just have no sense of proper focus when it Comes to Christ is all.
