Returning good for evil - rental saga - any suggestions?

I have a cat-itude!

Thanks for all of the helpful advice. I have reworked my budget to make room for his extra $100. by spreading out my car insurance payments over 6 months instead of 4 and lowering my food budget by $50 a month that he is going to demand on the 1st of the month; however, I will be continuing to look for another place within my desired budget.

I have always owned a home so this is only the second time I have had to deal with rental situations. The last place I rented was a beautiful town home on a lake. This home is at least in a good neighborhood and even though there is allot wrong with it, I'll survive. $800. a month is getting kinda steep when the stove doesn't work, the roof leaks and the shower doesn't work. Moving is so difficult and that is the dreaded part. At least I am on the bus route so my can take the city bus to school. This takes a load off of me time wise. There is not much free time trying to hold down two jobs. I know that God will open the doors and I ask everyone to continue to pray that my landlord will find a soft spot in his heart to not have the character of a slum lord.

He needs a God moment and needs lots of prayer cause he doesn't act like he has good morals, ethics and values or for that matter a Christian conscience. Please continue to bless him with your prayers as I will until the situation gets better. When he cursed at me earlier this week, I did not react in a negative way, but I surely didn't like it either. It appears that he doesn't respect women either.

Now, what ways can you all suggest to return good for evil so perhaps his character may change and he can get a glimpse of Jesus?

he needs to be turned in to the health department. Those are direct violations and he should not be allowed to even rent it like that. If I sound harsh so be it, but he promised upfront to repair those issues if I recall corectly.

real mercy is found in truth and honesty. Do not be a doormat. I think you are enabling him to be wrong. His actions such as the wrong size stove is not a sign of him being responsible.

He is the one who has chosem to be a landlord. In doing so he also has laws to abide by and provisions to stand up to. Think about what you are doing. You are sacrificing in order for him to be beligerant and disrespectful. He has no problem taking the money from you, but he will not hold up to his end of the bargain.

People respect people who respect themselves.Your actions will not be seen by him as a Christian but rather as someone whith no backbone.

God wants better for you. Its not his desire to see tou walked on. If I lived closer I would help you deal with this.

Greetings,
I often hear people say to pray for your enemy, so by doing so, the enemy will have burning coals fall upon them. I just wonder about the prayer. How can a prayer for good, bring coals down? Maybe, it is that the Christian is praying for the coals to come down, and they do? I always wonder......

No King but CHRIST JESUS!!!

Ask him if he minds you not paying the rent until you get a good stove. No, wait, on second thought that would provoke him, but it's the same idea isn't it? If I think of something constructive however I'll come back and post it.

I have already tried this last month unfortunately but his reply is he has the best attorney in town and he threatened to file eviction papers which were suppose to arrive the next day telling me I would have to move in 21 days. I never saw the papers and he cashed my rent check for the lessor amount. I did have to write him a check for $100 last week for him to fix the shower which worked only while he was here. The stove is still in the foyer, too. It's getting ridiculously comical. Rent is due again on the 5th of July, I wonder what I should do this month. Reporting him will certainly provoke him to putting me and my son on the street. At least I have a place for us to rent our heads. Rents that I have found in the area are $900. to a $1,000. so it is certainly a catch 22. Only positive suggestions are welcome.

No worries Mia, I am working an extra 11 1/2 hours on Friday's as long as I can sustain it. I have faith the God will give me the strength and pray that this extra burden will only be temporary. It is amazing that the hours became available at my first job in the exact timing that the rent went up. It's about faith and trusting for the provisions. I am sure that these are only stepping stones to something better. Perhaps, even a better paying job so that I don't have to work so many hours. Time will tell. But, for right now, I just don't know the proper way to deal with this idiot.

Too bad you didn't live closer. We would have made a good team! I believe I have experience in the types of things you do.

We do this because we are to love our enemies as ourselves, and who is not our enemy? If we can not forgive them and fervently ask for them to be blessed, how much different are we from them. In action an reaction, we must be Christ like. Only then will they see we honestly care for them. Totally opposite from what they expect and generally get from most others they know.

We may be the only Jesus they ever get to know.

Thanks for your comment and for visiting my blog, hope this helps.

I appreciate your concern Dennis, but this approach would not work with this moron! I have to believe there is a greater purpose which may never be revealed to me. I have the backbone to handle him diplomatically as long as he get's his money. You are correct in that he is in violation, but remember, he doesn't care because he says he has the best attorney in town. Harassment.....perhaps.

Cheers,

Sheri

Perhaps, my mindset is still stuck on paying $600. when I owned my own home. Sometimes, I wish I would have never sold it, but then I wouldn't have had all my wonderful memories and experiences in Hawaii. Those were days that I will cherish forever in my memory.

Thanks for visiting and following along,

Greetings,
I am just curious. Are we to love our enemy, that is also our brethren, or just any old enemy? Philadelphios, or Agapo? And as to blessing our enemy, is that the same as wishing Godspeed to them?
