extra large puppy?

i have a chance to get a pit bull/mastiff puppy today, and i can't make the decision.

i really really want it, i know another mastiff/pit mix and it is a beautiful dog, but it is HUGE. if i use my brain, it tells me a that big would be a major expense. but the little boy in me doesn't care.

my brain is also telling me that i don't need all the extra work it would be. it is only 2 months old and it would take away at least 2 months of my life to get it situated and everything.

tearing up furniture and stuff, fighting with the cat, getting potty trained, it would be a burden for a while. and it will want to get walked every day all winter. the little boy in me is caring about these things...

they have 5 girls ($150 each) and 2 boys ($100 ea). i don't know why the girls are more? they are bringing me the 2 boys this afternoon to choose. i get the impression they are hard up for money.

i have tried to teach hobbes to go for walks, but she wants NO part of it. when i put a harness on her, she will just sit down and not move. even if i drag her by the leashe, she will just lay down and be dead meat.

she used to seem interested when charlie took moby for walks, but not enough to put on the harness and follow. there is a guy in the neighborhod that has 3 dogs and a HUGE cat that walks with the dogs, so i know it can be done.

maybe hobbes will be more interested when she sees me walking a dog?

i got him. he is like an infant. he can't even climb stairs. he can kind of get down them, kind of half rolling down. i took him for a walk and he had no clue what we were doing. i had to carry him home.

calvin really does not like the cold. he follows me everywhere in the house like a shadow, but when i go outside he won't come voluntarily. if i leave the door open he will run back in right away. it is only 60 here today.

on the up side, he has integrated into the house part of the house fairly well, allthough he will still sleep overnight in the basement for a while. he is sleeping in my bed right now, so is hobbes, but neither know the other is there.

calvin has been completely free of the basement for a day or two now. i have a new temporary roomie staying on the couch there. it is nice to have someone else in the house again.
