Die By Law Live By Grace (Marriage,Divorce,Marriage)

The law of the Lord has revealed to us why we have trouble in this life. In so many ways we have behaved in violation of these laws. Since the laws can not change, is there nothing we can do to help ourselves?

The grace of the Lord gives us a pass. We are not free from suffering but we are free from judgment. If we have missed the mark in marriage or divorced, we will suffer the consequences. Who has gone through a divorce and not suffered? Who is in a bad marriage and is not suffering? A current marriage can bring just as much suffering as divorce and perhaps more.

The grace of the Lord means we do not have to face Him in the future, and be judged guilty for divorce and marrying again, among the many other ways we all break His laws. We have a pass for the future, and also I believe for the present. We can start over here and learn. Is this not what repentance is all about?

Regarding marriage Paul wrote:

"But if the unbeliever leaves, let him do so. A believing man or woman is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace." 1Cor.7:15.

What does it mean we are not bound, and God has called us to live in peace? In my opinion it means for one thing, He wants us to have now peaceful relationships in marriage. The grace, or favor of God, given to us without earning it, means we are not judged and can start over. We can live and learn. We can repent and have forgiveness. There is no future penalty for a failure to observe the law, but mercy now is available.

To pass judgment on people who do not keep the laws of the Lord is to nullify the work of Jesus on the cross, the privilege of repentance He purchased for us, and the forgiveness He obtained for us. To judge people by the law is to judge Jesus. It is to render Jesus null and void. Jesus said He did not come to this world to judge it but to save. It is the same as saying Jesus never came and died for the sins of the world.

Not even God judges people yet. But, He sure seems to have a lot of helpers who are eager to help Him get ready His cases. It is not necessary to burden the divorce with anymore guilt than then already have. People who have divorced and want and need to start over in the name of Jesus are free to do so by His grace. Everyone knows there has been a failure somewhere. But some people don't seem to get it that there is freedom to start over. According to scripture everyone has many failures to keep His laws. Also, according to scripture everyone has more forgiveness and freedom than the failures so they can begin anew. This is how vast and wonderful and awesome is the work of Jesus on the cross. Even if our heart condemns us, Paul says, the grace of God is greater. The point is that we can not out sin God's grace. No matter how bad we are, God's grace or favor is greater.Even, if like Paul, we have murdered hundreds of Christians, we can still find more than enough grace to give us freedom to start over again.

Jesus is all about starting over. A new life is available in Him. Our respect of what He did for us on the cross is needed now. We need to move on from sin and death to starting anew and living again better and better. We have the freedom and power now to do this. Let us stop putting people back in time. Let us encourage people to confess, accept God's mercy and in the name of Jesus move on from the past into the freedom and glorious light of of a new life.

People who have not accepted His grace, freedom, mercy, and a new start, are the ones still laying guilt trips on those who have been born again and found favor once more in their life. Those who have started again in their new life are the ones who are so happy to share and encourage others to find mercy at the cross to begin for themselves a new life and enter a new world of walking in the light.

That is an interesting question, and in answer I can only guess that judgmental people are in still in some state of shock of their own sins and what to do about it. Once we are born again and free to mature we can work on our maturity and make progress. The purpose of evil in the world is to give us the opportunity to make a choice to resist it, and at that point we gain more spiritual strength.

Jesus is our example. He went into the wilderness for testing by evil, but when He left the wilderness trials by evil He left in the power of the Spirit. Maybe these people are frustrated not knowing how to grow in spirit. We grow, in my opinion, by resisting daily evil, which would have us focus on our self, and thereby receive spiritual energy for sharing with others. Jesus said it is a daily process. Take up our cross daily He said. To me He is saying choose to restrain our evil or selfish feelings and receive spiritual power to serve others. People get frustrated with evil in their own lives and want to get rid of it, when actually it has a purpose to give us a choice. It is in our new birth that we now have a choice and are not slaves anymore to the selfish focus on life.

I like your question. It is an important one. Maybe Blair has more to say. Most people can get to the cross and find initial forgiveness, but then what to do with the evil in their lives remaining is a puzzle. Like the grain of sand that falls into an oyster and irritates it causing secretions to form around the grain resulting in a pearl, evil is irritating and causes us to make choices of self or others. The good news is that evil looses its power in our choice of others. The bad news is that it will come back for another day. The best news is that someday this will all be over.

Sorry for the long answer, but you really got me going. lol. Blessings to you always. You are always an encouragement to me and many others. I hope you know that.

I agree, good word. In Galatians 3 it states that the law was once a tutor and now that Christ has come, he is our tutor. It goes on to say that the law is a curse to Christians.

If we look back at Jer 31, we will find the preclude where it states in the New Covenant, right and wrong will be written on our hearts. Law keepers are not justified by keeping laws because in failing in one you fail in all. We are only justified by what Jesus did.

The law was nailed to the cross. Collosians 2
The old Covenant is gone Hebrews 8

We as believers are free to make mistakes. And as you stated, there are consequences on this earth for stupid decisions.

Marriage should be for life, however to God, its all about relationship with him, not laws. Peter said the laws were never given to the gentiles to begin with. 1 Tim 1:9 says the law was only given to the unrighteous.

Love God with all your being
Love your neighbor as yourself
Yet we will still fail in many things. That is why Jesus Came.

People are free totally to remarry. We are under grace

The marriage covenant is based on the agreement to love, honor, cherish....etc. Once this agreement has been adulterated or the purity has been polluted then obviously the agreement has been violated and is no longer in force. Sexual violations are obvious pollutants, and are not also other forms of abuse, like physical, emotional, assault, fraud, and others. The agreement has lost its purity and is broken. People are then, I believe and according to Jesus, free to move on. Otherwise we are forced to keep an adulterated, polluted agreement which has been violated.

God faced this problem with Israel in the Old Testament. Because of their gross violations of the covenant Israel made with God at Mt. Sinai, the Lord finally divorced them, sent them into exile and afterward let them return to the Holy Land only to receive Jesus who would have given them a new covenant but they crucified Him. Yet, this new covenant is available still for the world.

We should focus not so much on how we can get out of a marriage, but more how we can keep, improve, survive, one. When these holy relationships become unholy, I feel we are free, sadly so, to move on. WE need to live and learn what we can from it. But, to stay in some of these insane relationships would be losing our sanity. Battered, abused women would be in danger of losing their lives in some of them. When love, honor, cherish is long gone to be replaced with hate, dishonor, and abuse, the agreement has come to nothing.

Because of gross idolatry, God divorced Israel, His covenanted wife from the time of Mt. Siani receiving of the 10 commandments, and sent Israel into exile, calling her an whoring wife. Israel was no longer His wife by the old covenant, and has not been His wife since, and only will be again through the new covenant agreement He makes with the world through Jesus Christ, His Son whom they crucified. The sacrifices in the temple have stopped for over 2,000 years. The temple is long gone. The old covenanted relationship was broken and divorced, and discarded never to be again.
