I have no idea the name of this kind of fish. It is sold a lot in the market place. People grill or barbecue these fish in this asian pacific part of the world. These fishermen were unloading their previous catch and headed out for a night of fishing. I imagine they were oblivious to the current concerns of the world. Most of the people here smile when you talk to them about a recession. They say they are used to it. It is nothing new to them. In fact they hardly notice, if at all, a recession. Rice, pork, and noodles are the main concern and they have that. They say they have no money, but they have many kids. These people have many friends, most are related somehow, and a wonderful sense of humor. A dozen or so were talking a few months ago teasing one of the men, who was missing two fingers, how he could work so hard and still have so many children? He laughed and said he thought some of his kids looked a little like his neighbor. They all roared with laughter.

They can laugh all night, as long as they are sober. There is mass service every day of the week. Many still make a living by fishing. This is, in my estimate, a land of paradise, poverty, and perspiration. The gap between the rich and poor is education and it seems impossible to bridge.

There are thousands of islands in the pacific, many uninhabited. One man who worked in the tax office bought an island that was underwater much of the time because of the tides. He just liked the idea of owning an island, so he payed the property tax faithfully. Recently for some reason the island has raised up above the water and now the municipality wants it back. But he refuses and rightly so.

I just met a 6'2 young guy from Germany day before yesterday who had worked a long time in Germany saving his money to travel, even against his mothers advice. He just came recently from Thailand and Vietnam to the pacific area. He does not want to go back to Germany. Yesterday, while staying over night at a Frenchman's house, I met a guy named Claude who is from Belgium, and another guy named Ed from South Africa. These guys told stories first hand from far away places like Riyadh, Congo, South Africa, etc. You name a country and people are here in representation.

After doing some checking, I believe this fish is called a "Shrimp Scad". It is common from east Asia all the way to Hawaii.
