When Jesus Bans We Must Follow

It is Jesus who is doing the baning when the consensus agreement of the Church happens. Jesus through the Apostle Paul instructed the Church in Corinth to ban the abuser who was sleeping with his brothers wife. He was to be banned for his own good, and the good of the community. When he finally repented, the Church was instructed to allow him back. Hence, the purpose of banning or dis-fellowship is correction, protection, and healing.

Jesus is not going to ban Himself. The instructions about banning come from Jesus Himself to clean the church. Paul the Apostle wished that people who were upsetting the faith of the Church would castrate themselves. This is how serious it is. We are not banning Jesus when we follow His instructions to ban a seriously errant person. This is a wake up call to the person to correct his behavior before it is too late. It is Jesus way of helping the person see his error, and protect the Church.

When the Church itself evaluates the situation and concludes that a person needs to be dis-fellowshipped for their own good, it is the leading of the Holy Spirit to do so because it is a consensus agreement of the church. Even Paul the Apostle respected the Church decision as a whole to be equal to his own. When the Church faithful speak with one voice it is the voice of Jesus. Make no mistake. It is Jesus Himself speaking through His Church.
