Law and Conflict or Grace and Peace My response to Michael in his very interesting post: That is a very interesting and helpful interpretation. [post 175929]I believe there is a lot in the new testament scriptures that would agree with this, like "dead to sin, end of law, alive in Christ, unction of the Spirit, taught by the Spirit, etc. ". At least today this is where we are for the most part. The law can be helpful if used right. The Spirit leading and teaching is the most important guide today. The first century church had such a major problem with the law and anything Jewish. The law is so powerful, as any word of God is, that separating from Jewish traditions, practices, was the only way. So, the Church I believe, changed the worship day from Saturday (sabbath) to Sunday, no longer required circumcision of moses to be saved, and other things. In Acts 15, these questions were debated and resolved, with Paul in attendance, by the Jerusalem Council of elders and apostles, which sent a letter to the Gentile christians that they did not have to observe Moses any longer to be saved, but by the grace of Jesus Christ. The Council said that it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and the Council for the Gentiles to not be burdened beyond 4 requirements and they would do well: 1. abstain from food sacrificed to idols 2. abstain from blood 3. abstain from meat of strangled animals 4. abstain from sexual immorality These requirements were certainly for their day in the first century. Idols were a big problem in the gentile world. A strangled animal because of the stress has many stress chemicals shot through its system and would not be healthy to eat most likely. Sexual immorality is always a problem. The point is that this Council of Jerusalem christians decided by the Holy Spirit what was helpful in their century, and its by grace we are saved, not Moses. As the centuries went by, the focus became much less anything jewish. It was really hard to leave Moses and the law and just trust in Jesus and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Today our problems are no less serious. Our pride still drives us to prove ourselves by obeying law, as satan tried to get Jesus to prove Himself the of God. The law is so strong that once in contact with it, a person's world is rocked and some never get over and past it into "...for by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God". Eph. 2:8,9 Following the Holy Spirit today is like Peter walking on water... take our eyes off Jesus and we begin to sink back into the ocean of law. It is Jesus or Law. It can not be both. If it is Jesus, He saves us. If it is law, we die. ![]() |

Oh I understand what you are saying Blair, and I agree. Michael brought up his interesting post on following God's Spirit today like He intended for the human race to do in the garden of Eden. But what happened was we lost that grace and descended into the knowledge of good and evil making the onus on us and law and conflict followed then death. Michael's post to me was quite interesting. Where we are today is back to following The Spirit. It really is a big departure from commandments written on paper. Yet, as you say the law is a framework. It does point to love and the failure to love. This is what Jesus is all about. Its just now we have more power to love with Jesus than with Moses. I love the spirit of these discussions on BC now for the most part. It is how it should be. Clarifying, supporting, questioning, encouraging is the way. You are always welcome to comment. blessings.

God never did change His laws- Nor did His son Jesus. But someone else sure tried. Jesus warned about the false light- (changes that are evil but seem good) in Matthew 6:23. He also said all but a few would fall for the trick. Satan 1- Christians 0.

Agree very much about the love and discussions. Everyone knows what we have to do to keep it this way. Ban and ignore trouble makers from our own individual blogs. I really do learn from others here and appreciate how the Spirit is working in their lives for us and others. Also, the friendly supportive atmosphere is so nice.

Self respect is just as important as respect for others. When one is lacking, both probably are lacking. Actually, maybe you did your sister a favor by staying home. Your next visit will be a better one.
