Who Is A Real Christian?

The Apostle John, in 1John 2:19, gave he best definition of a Christian that I have ever seen,

"They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us."

His point I believe is that dogs act like dogs, cats act like cats, apple trees behave like apple trees, etc., and Christians behave like Christians. WE have fellowship because we have the same behavior. Anyone can bark, or meow, but that does not make them a or a cat. Anyone can mouth christian words, but that does not make them a Christian. Christians have christian behavior. It is as simple and profound as that.

Other related scriptures are "faith without works is dead..." Anyone can mouth christian words of faith, but only those people who live like christians are christian, and those who don't live like christians are dead.

So, my definition of a Christian is anyone who lives and behaves like Jesus and His apostles is a Christian. This is the only true sign of an inward change of life. We can not have fellowship with other Christians if we are not inwardly Christian. Our outward behavior shows our inner life. Just give people enough time and they will show you who they are. Quoting scripture, judging others, claiming to be Christian does not make it. It is as simple as this: a real christian acts like Jesus and His apostles. A false christian does not act like Jesus and His apostles. A person's word is not good enough. Only a person's behavior is good enough. Thanks be to God, and thank you Apostle John.

Agree of course. This is why I do not trust for a long time. And even then, as the Russians say, trust but verify. I am sorry for your experiences with this. I feel you have grown a lot and will be fine and you will help others very much. Its very nice to have you as a friend in fellowship.

Love is what counts. The most correct theology doesn't make us christian. WE can not belong to the family of Jesus by getting a university degree or two or three. His Spirit in us, the absence or presence of, shows through.

There is a fellowship created from above. Its so easy now to see this love shared here on BC and conversely its absence. Satan appears as an angel of light, but soon his very thoughts betray him. Light and darkness have no fellowship. So again the defining question is the presence or absence of fellowship, which is the same as saying the presence or absence of the Holy Spirit.

My blog is safe for people to comment and share because I ban and then ignore any posts from people who are troublesome, argumentative, disrespectful, and show no love, but accuse, assault, demean others whose opinion might differ. Again, it is not correct theology that makes us christian, but His love dwelling inside, which means Jesus has accepted us and made us His own.
