Give God a Chance “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalms 46:10 In her book ‘Gift From the Sea’ Anne Lindbergh takes us with her to the bottom of the ocean and describes the fascinating and strange life in that removed and silent world. She tells us of the inspiration she received from her reflective contacts with it. However, she makes one thing clear in her forward. Of the sea’s gift she says, “It must not be sought for, or–heaven forbid–dug for; one should be empty, open–waiting for a gift from the sea.” How well this applies to our contact with God. I betray no secret when I say that the world is insecure. Everywhere people are wondering and worrying. Their busy, and often empty, minds desire desperately to know, “What can God do for me?” And the last thing on earth they want for an answer is some ambiguous, complicated theory. They want more than anything a practical demonstration. In the very midst of their questioning God steps in and says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” In other words He is saying, “Just give Me a chance. Anxious heart, stop pounding. Over-wrought mind, rest awhile. Let me take over your life and I will show you what I can do for you.” Now, this is not only good counsel; it is a blessed promise too. Think of the inexpressible comfort it implies. It is wonderful to be able to feel safe with a person, to pour out your thoughts without weighing them, to display your real inner self without sham or artificial front. That is what you can do fully with your God. He knows, He sees, He understands. And He can use you for a very special task in the world’s final events. But, first of all, you must be still and know that He is God. You must experience His presence and enter into a personal relationship of life and purpose with Him. May the Lord bless you and keep you |

One of the most difficult things to do when one is "troubled" is to BE STILL. In fact, it sounds contradictory - you are troubled and you are required to be still. However, God does not give us burdens we can't bear. To be still simply connotes to be calm, don't take rash decisions, don't act in anger or frustration, just take a deep breath of the air God has freely given... I believe all Christians should be able to do all these in moments of trouble. When tried, you'd surely see the other side of the situation you're battling with; a revelation that would confirm to your spirit that God is God... It could be a better way of handling the situation; it could come like the dawning of a new day after a very dark and long night. If God has advised us to be still (or is it a command?) in order to know He is God, then let's be still and He'd surely prove that He is God. For all I care, GOD IS FAITHFUL.
