Keep The Channel Clear

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.“ James 4:8.

It is not uncommon for persons to wonder why God does not reveal Himself to them in a special way. I suppose that at one time or another we all have longed for such an experience. And probably the main obstruction to this relationship is our cluttered heart. We do not always keep the channels between us and heaven clear.
Have you ever noticed how a stream is born? It begins with a little bubbling spring. Its clear cold water trickles between the stones and around the fallen twigs almost unseen. Gradually, however, other little springs send their waters to join the first, and together they form a rivulet, a brook, and then a speedy river. If you follow the river you will notice that at times it flows rapidly, cutting a deep, narrow channel in the mountainside. Then again there are places where the channel broadens and the stream flows lazily as some barrier chokes its way.
Human character is very much like a river. We are the channels through which God reaches the world. He has chosen to use our hearts as the communications device to spread His good news of the gospel. But sometimes our human channels become clogged with selfishness, ignorance, disloyalty, carelessness, pride, too much to do, dishonesty, and other sins that are barriers to God’s love.
The apostle James tells us to draw near to God so that He can draw near to us. This merely means for us to keep our communication lines free and open. Keep an open heart that welcomes guidance from above. When you do this, then God can draw near and hold communion with you directly and closely. Listen quietly, right now He is trying his best to draw close to you and become your Counselor, Advisor, and Friend. So do not let anything clutter up the channels between here and heaven.

May the Lord bless you and keep you
