Let us Stay With Jesus “Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will you also go away? John 6:67. Once when Jesus gave an unpopular message to His followers many of them turned away from following Him. He then looked lovingly at the twelve disciples and asked them the heart-searching question, “Will you also go away?” There are times when it seems difficult to follow Jesus, when others are going back to their old way of life. Then the question comes to each of us, “Will you also go away?” The heart of Jesus is deeply grieved when a soul who has started on his way to the kingdom turns back to walk no more with Him. Some years ago Ellis Island in the New York Harbor was used as a waiting station for immigrants who were entering the United States. Conditions were crowded and the circumstances were often very unpleasant. The captain of an ocean liner decided to offer free passage to anyone who wished to return to their former home. When the offer was announced, a weary traveler looked up and said, “What, go back now after working and dreaming for years of getting to the land of freedom? Never! To what would I go back? Nothing.” Multitudes today are longing for a new way of life. None but Christ can fill the intense longing of the human heart. There is no one who can take His place, no one who has done so much for us. Little wonder that when Christ asked the question, Peter answered as he did: “To whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life” (John 6: 6  . From the pen of one of my favorite authors come these words: “The disciples had found more peace and joy since they had accepted Christ than in all their previous lives. . . . While the Savior was forsaken by many who had witnessed His wonderful works, Peter expressed the faith of the disciples,–‘Thou art that Christ.’ The very thought of losing this anchor of their souls filled them with fear and pain. To be destitute of a Savior was to be adrift on a dark and stormy sea.” May the Lord bless you and keep you |
