You Have It In You

“And He said unto them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” Mark 4:40.

Lack of happiness and contentment does not merely exist with the older generation. Large numbers of young people complain that life is a transcript of emptiness. Their eyes flash with bitterness and cynicism. They have no faith. It is not necessarily that they do not want faith. They do not know where to find it. Well, how do they get faith?
I would like to answer this question with an old Chinese tale about a little fish that once overheard one fisherman say to another, “Have you ever stopped to think how essential water is to life? Without water our earth would dry up. Every living thing would die.” The little fish became panic stricken. “I must find some water at once, or in a few days I will be dead!” he exclaimed, and went swimming away as fast as he could. But where could he find water? He had never heard if it before. He asked the other fish in the lake, but they didn’t know. He swam out into the large river, but no fish there could tell him where to find water. He kept swimming until he reached the deepest place in the ocean. There he found an old and wise fish. He gasped, “Where can I find water?” The old fish chuckled. “Water? Why you are in it right now. You were in it back home in your own lake. You have never been out of it since the day you were born.”
Faith is a gift of God. You ask, “How can I uncover my faith?” Faith is a matter of believing in the beauty, the truth, and the goodness of God. And why should it be so difficult to do this when we believe in so much that is lesser than He? Why should we not have faith in the God who created us and who sends His angels to watch over our every waking and sleeping hour? Will you not, for today, think of God’s help and His love instead of your problems and difficulties? This is the way to a living faith!

May the Lord bless you and keep you
