The Voice of Truth

Have you ever noticed that when you are at a low point, when you doubt yourself, or when you are stepping out to do something bigger than you are that this little voice comes along and says, "You can't do it", "You're not good enough", "You're not worthy", "No one cares" and so on? Many of us think that those are just our own underlying thoughts...but how many realize that, though self doubt exists, a primary weapon of the enemy is to discredit God, to cause us to stop believing, or worse yet to believe untrue things about His flawless character. Belief in who God is and how He cares for us is core to our very existence as Christians.

There is a song by Casting Crowns called "The Voice of Truth" that best speaks to this situation...the songwriter speaks of the voices of fear, doubt and unbelief that can enter in, then says "But the voice of truth tells me a different story; the voice of truth says do not be afraid. The voice of truth says this is for my glory, out of all the voices calling out to me...I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth."

Friends we have a choice here...we can silence the voice of the enemy by simply taking authority over Him and then CHOOSING to believe the truth. If it takes getting out your Bible and reading the many truths about God's character then do it, until you truly in your heart of hearts believe it for YOU. "God is faithful and just in all that He does"..."He is not man that He should lie". Overcome the lies by responding in the opposite spirit...where there is doubt, respond in faith...where there is fear, respond by voicing your position in God with courage, where there are lies, respond with the truth...the inerrant word of God.

Don't let any circumstance take a higher place in your life than God...He is the only one that deserves to be on that throne...not our emotions, not our doubt, not our fears, not our hurts, not our rejections. God truly is bigger than all our circumstances...we were not intended to carry our burdens alone...He gave us one another, and His almighty arms to do that for us.

When we do not allow our hearts to reign, we give God place to move in our circumstances...that is not to say we do not suffer, we do not experience pain. This life will not be without pain, but do not allow our grief to create doubt, fear and unbelief...do not slander our God by doing that. Instead, pour out your heart to Him and allow Him to wipe away those tears. He loves you so, so much. Listen to the voice of truth...why believe anyone but Him?

Thanks Alan...yes, we need to feed our spirits with truth through the Word on a regular basis...it is amazing how when you are in the depths a verse or scripture will come to your memory that is just what you need to hear at the time. Sometimes when we can do nothing else, simply meditating on the truth about who God is will lift us up out of our circumstances and place our feet back on solid ground.

Thanks PJ...I have walked in a place of pain lately but it is the unshakable truth of who God is that brings me back to knowing who I am in Him. And then all else is okay...truly.

Thanks Dennis...so many wounded it seems; as I have most recently walked through pain myself I feel God wanting me to comfort others with the comfort I myself have received. And yet above it all...when human comfort fails...it is who God is that matters most; He is the Comforter...sometimes I think He allows pain into our lives (note I said allowed, not cause) to shake away the things that keep us from truly walking in victory with Him. I know that has been the case with me...and with each circumstance it gets easier to see more quickly the truth.

Deena! We know that no relationship can take the throne, and therefore neither can the breaking of a relationship take center stage either. Emotions are unstable ground upon which to stand, and yet that doesn't mean not feeling as some mistakingly think, but rather expressing our feelings openly to Him.

Well, it's good night for me,

No relationship SHOULD take the throne...but alas sometimes we can unwittingly allow it to take priority in our thoughts, deeds, actions and even time spent with God...when people do that and the relationship is torn away they lose their emotional compass and have no sense of direction or where to turn. Yet God in His mercy will direct the yielded heart back on course. I agree with you Vincent...it is okay to pour out your heart to God, to trust Him with your deepest feelings; we just need to come to a place where we are not led about by those feelings...weeping may last for a night but joy comes in the morning. Pain has a definite time frame in our lives...it comes in and stays as a somewhat unwelcome guest but when the purpose of the pain has been accomplished, when we have allowed God to reach in and touch that place of sorrow, it then becomes time to send the guest home...and move on, from a place of new resolve and understanding, where hope remains the welcome suitor.

Night night

Yes Deena,

You've made a good point here. We cannot directly influence our feelings. That's why emotions can be touch and go, because the negative ones come without an invitation and often go away like a virus on their own, or at least it appears to be this way.

It's 3 a.m. here. My parent's alarm system is beeping due to a low battery and only the technician guy can fix it tomorrow... alas...
Your deer and furry friend (hahaha)

You funny guy! Furry huh? I know what you are talking about with those stupid batteries...mine has done that as well...and my dog barks when it happens...so NO SLEEP! Wondered why you were up so early.

Yes, a virus...good analogy...I figure 72 hours is a good time for the intense symptoms...then amazingly you feel so much better (well not so amazingly...someone and Someone greatly influenced the healing time).

This is one of my fav songs by Casting Crowns. I like it for many reasons, one being what you said about CHOOSING. I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth. It's a choice. Just like when you are at a crossroads in your life, you have a choice. Second, I can relate to it. "The giants calling out my name and he laughs at me. Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed. The giants keep on telling me time and time again, boy, you'll never win, you'll never win." I have felt that way alot lately. I think that's because I'm letting something other that Jesus Christ control my thoughts. Satan is really good at sitting on my shoulder and telling me how stupid I am and what a failure I've become. My head knows this not to be true as I think about it and ponder all the Lord has done in my life, but sometimes my heart thinks otherwise. That punch to your heart that we're all familiar with, that hurts so bad it can take your breath away.
"The voice of truth tells me a different story. The voice of truth says do not be afraid. The voice of truth says this is for your glory. Out of all of voices calling out to me, I will will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth." THAT is my prayer. Thanks for the post and the reminder!

That's one of my favorite songs as well...it is encouragement to many of us; one of the biggest weapons of the enemy is discouragement. If we allow it to take a foothold it renders us helpless and ineffective; however as you have so correctly stated that when we choose to listen and believe the voice of truth, we silence the voice of the enemy. He brings us back to center; if we truly, truly realized all of who we are in Him and what we can do in Him this world would be shaken to its core with a move of the almighty spirit of God...but sadly there are too many dejected, immobilized Christians listening to the wrong voices, believing the wrong things about themselves. I pray God would encourage you in your innermost being and lift your head up to see the reality of all that you are and all that He has for you...a woman of great potential.
