God's prescription for Life

I wanted to share this little excerpt from my study bible:

"Some people wonder, "What is God's will for me?" Verses 16-18 of 1 Thessalonians 5 provide a threefold answer. God's will is that every Christian live a life of joy, prayer and thankfulness at all times.

A cheerful, joy-filled heart is good medicine for us (Proverbs 17:22) and a blessing to others. Persistent prayer keeps us tuned to God's purposes and helps us to wait expectantly for his divine intervention. Continuous gratitude, under all cirumstances, redirects our attention from ourselves to our powerful God and reminds us of his limitless love and faithfulness toward us.

This passage is God's prescription for a lifestyle that is pleasing to him, fulfilling for us us and inspiring to others.

How does your life reflect a spirit of joy, prayer and thankfulness?"

I am finding there is a huge difference between being joyful in the Lord and feeling happy...the first is deep seated and abiding, not dependent on my outside circumstances...happiness is variable, dependent on my day to day situation. I used to think well I don't feel like rejoicing, I don't feel happy at the moment...I have learned to rejoice in the midst of heartache and circumstances...and amazing when I make the choice to do so I experience the true joy that comes from knowing Him, and my feelings tend to follow.

Yes...it seems to hold true that happiness follows a lifestyle of joy, thankfulness and prayer.
