The Bucket List

I recently watched the movie "The Bucket List" with a new friend...after the movie was over I commented that it was very sad that people have to wait until they know they are dying to do the things on their "bucket list" (a list of things you want to do before you "kick the bucket").

I happen to think making such a list now is a good idea...actually New Year's Day 2007 I spent part of the day making such a list myself. The first item on the list was to do a hot air balloon ride. So I did a little researching online to see where the "best" view from a hot air balloon could be had. It was between Aspen, Colorado and the Napa Valley...since it would be my first balloon ride I decided I felt more comfortable riding over a valley of vineyards than the mountains...so I sent out > 20 invitations to friends and family to join me in Napa Sept 2007 to do the balloon ride...well I ended up with a group of 7 that went with me to Napa last September. We did quite a few things (including seeing the Redwood Forest and driving the Coastal Highway...added blessings) but the absolute best was doing a 6:00 am balloon flight and watching the sun come up over the valley....it was absolutely awesome! And the feeling that I had knowing that I was doing something I always wanted to because I just decided to was indescribable.

Now I am not talking about rushing through life without seeking God's direction. What I am talking about is living life to its fullest...not just gliding through and letting life "happen" to me. I have quite a few more things on my list. But many times we spend our lives wishing we had done things, but never actually ending up doing them. What was really neat was having my new friend ask me what the next thing on my list was (flying to anywhere in the world where Carlos Santana was playing a concert, even if just for a weekend, and seeing him in concert) and having him tell me "That could be made to happen." The whole idea behind the Bucket List movie was the two men helped each other to accomplish the things on each of their lists....do you have someone like that in your life? Are you someone like that to another?

God gave us a big, wide beautiful world for us to enjoy and experience. And life passes so quickly. We come in one door and go out the other in a relatively short period of time. I venture that we will not do the things we desire to do in this life if (1) we don't identify those things and (2) prayerfully make plans to accomplish them. There are quite a few things on my bucket list...perhaps I will get to all of them, perhaps not. But I have crossed one off my list and am working toward the next one...the process is exciting and the experience of living out my dream even more exciting.

So why not sit down and make a bucket list. Would love to hear what's on your list once you sit down and write it...yes I think writing it out is a necessary thing...once you put pen to paper, the wish is one step closer to becoming reality.

That certainly is a great way to live...To enjoy GODS gifts. Ive actually just starting to really enjoy a sunset this past year! After witnessing it for so many years. Its always better when Gods added to the equation.

Hi Alan...sunrises and sunsets are beautiful aren't they...I remember getting up at 4:00 a.m. every morning during Basic Training to go outside and do PT (physical training)..the one thing that made that bearable was getting to see EVERY sunrise and sunset during that time. Would have missed that if I'd been sleeping. God has made so much beauty for us to enjoy hasn't He?

I think you have said some very important things here. God places passion in our lives for things and within reason we should seek them out. Good post
