Can we "get ready" for Christs' return?

if one were to look at things. What could the Jewish people before Christ do to be righteous and holy before Jesus gave atonement one time for all mankind? There was nothing they could do. That is why Jesus need come and he came for the whole world.

Now are we justified as born again believers because of our ability to perform or are we justified before God because of faith in the finished work of Jesus? Personally I am justified because of what he did, and nothing I can ever do. I cant prepare. I am not even asked to.

People get it in their minds that the better they prepare or immulate goodness the more pleased God somehow is. If you read through the Gospel of John you will get a preclude to Christianity. Christianity did not even begin until Jesus gave his life. No atonement, no forgiveness.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus Clearly states that the words he speaks are those the father gives him. The miracles he did were the father doing them through him. He said he could do nothing outside of what the father was doing. Jesus was the original abider. He said that he is the vine and we are the branches. He iso ur life scource. Paul went on to say that it was not Paul that was living, but Christ living through Paul.

The word also says that we all have different seasons in our lives we walk through. This means some of us will be running in victory, some of us will be in an overcoming mode and some of us will be failing, But all things work to the good of God eventually. Thats' why we pray for one another.

The bride of Christ is without spot of wrinkle because of what he did. Not because of how good some of us can be. Its foolish of us to think we are somehow this great clean person based on us and our ability to perform. The word speaks about heart conditions and who we really are.

We are to live from our Salvation because it is then him living through us despite situations or abilities to to cope and perform. Not everyone is strong and he said if we allow it, he will be strong in our weaknesses. But they are still weaknesses.

We are already without spot or wrinkle because of what Jesus did. I am complete because of Jesus and not because of how good or bad I am. Paul confessed that sometimes he still didnt do what he knew he should do. That is our humanity. Jesus overcame it. We are called to abide in him which means him living through us. We live from our salvation and in that we are empowered by the spirit.

Thinking we can all get it together at the same time is like looking for the stars to line up so this great power can be enacted. Its just not that way. Paul said to strive to do one thing. Be at rest in the peace that is found in the Gospel. He didnt say be perfect. What Jesus said to the Jews in be perfect as I am perfect meant be complete as I am complete. I am complete in him despite my imperfections and so is anyone that has received Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Too often the emphasis is on us. Psychologists will tell you to do things to work on getting your self esteem higher. When the emphasis is all about you, you will always come to the place where you realize you come short. You fail. It is in a way like looking at all of the injustices of the world and becoming angry and bitter due to all of this.

However in Christianity, it takes away all of that with simply asking us to identify with Christ. God is Good. He is Truth and he is the way in life. By identifying with this instead of trying to fix ourselves we will soon realize the unconditional love God has for us through Christ. We measure up now because of what he did. Our yoke of burden in like is traded in for the yoke of the one who overcame this often frustrating world.

Hi Dennis,

What do you think about this verse?

Jms:4:8: Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

And also this entire chapter?

Wouldnt you have to AGREE that there are many different Bible verses and passages just such as these where we are admonished to DO something? Yes we do it through the power of God but do you think God will just forcefully lift you up and do the things for you, without your consent and cooperation?

2Peter 1:
1: Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3: According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5: And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6: And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7: And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8: For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9: But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10: Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

And by the way, its nice to see you again, I kind of missed you ...I hope all is well with you.

Also Dennis,

What about the Ten Virgins?

Remember that the whole story was about how some were not ready for the coming of te Bridegroom?

So apparently then, there must be something you must do to get ready, right?

2Cor:1: Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

I agree Dennis, and to answer Claudia...yes we are to live holy, and Dennis said that, as we let Christ live through us. You didn't understand his post. But to be holy enough to be "ready?" We are already ready in Christ, if indeed we are saved in Christ, our life hidden in Him.

If we could make ourselves ready, Jesus would never need come. He is my righteousness based on faith. It is not based on works whatsoever. You can take a million scriptures out of context. When you dissect the bible you need to realize a few things.

One of them is covenants. The old is dead and waxed away.

Another thing is context. Who is it written for and why.

Also is it backed up within the Covenants themselves.

What could the Jews do to make themselves righteous? They couldnt and neither can we.

Jesus said to be complete as he is complete. That comes only as we find that completeness and holiness in him.

The law never saved anyone. It WAS a Tudor, but since Jesus has come, the Gentiles are grafted in and the Law has been replaced with Jesus. The scriptures say in Galatians that the Law is a curse to born again believers. Our whole salvation falls on what he did. Has nothing to do with anything we can do.

James is written to believers getting along with believers. Thats what culminates in James 5:15

Paul's writings deal with the man-God relationship and his revelation of Christianity is given from Christ. His Gospel is the Christian Gospel, while Christs Gospel was to the Jews as he was fulfilling the law. The new Covenant of God takes away the law as far as being justified.

The great news is that Jesus is the Author and finisher. Not me or any preacher or any person for that matter. We have many offshoots throughout the years with man made fallicies such as 7th day, Jehovah's witnesses and mormons that are somewhat bible based but all are contrived in Jesus plus, or their Jesus is found in the catagory of another Jesus.

The fact is its all about Jesus and what we are required to do is believe.

The ten Virgins, Christianity had not yet begun. It happens when Jesus gives atonement. Up until that time its Judeaism.
