Is God your Carpet Salesman?

Perhaps you might find that a strange title. God is all about relationships with man. he was so desirative of relationships that Jesus came to this earth and died for the barrier that separated man from God....sin. The good news is that he did not just die. He rose again. For 300 or so years afer his ressureection that is what they always talked about when they mentioned Jesus. He rose from the dead.

Why would that be the focus? Well, remember back then many people were crucified. It happened alot. However only one rose from the grave. Jesus! That showed the people his case was special. History tells us that he walked the earth amongst men for the next month or so to the tune of over 500 witnesses. So the big news was, he is who he said he was. Today it seems we concentrate a lot on the crucifixion.

Why would I say is God your Carpet salesman? In the carpet business as in many businesses, you can either buy direct from the factory or you can use a sales person to inform you and purchase from them so that you do not necessarily ever even actually deal with the maker even though you purchase his creations.

Deferment. Its a word commonly used among coaches or leaders that place people in positions bellow their ultimate authority to perform the duties assigned them on their own with that coach's trust. It is one thing to defer in certain instances such as projects getting done in life whether it be for your fellowship group or business. However the place that you do not want to defer to another person is the area of your faith.

So many times in the past I have held conversations with other believers where I would ask them a simple question. What do you actually believe. Many instances I would find myself hearing them say, well my church believes.... What a persons group believes means very little as their faith is not what saves you. Do you believe Jesus died for the sin that you had that initially separated you from God? Yes or No? Do you receive that forgiveness that he offers freely? That is the good news. It is not what other people around you believe.

So the carpet salesman comes into play. Can be pastors or elders or anyone else. It is good to fellowship. Its good to share what God is doing in your life. However, ultimately it all gets down to what you actually believe. Your friends thoughts and opinions can not save you. They can not tell you what God said exactly for you. There is a huge misconception of the prophetic in todays churches in some circles. That is "Getting a prophetic word for someone."

Let me elaborate. Things greatly changed since the cross. Now Gentiles have a relationship with the living God when they did not in the time of Moses and Abraham and David. The Prophets were mouth pieces for the people of Isreal. They did see and speak with great caution, because if they were ever wrong about their prophecy, they were stoned. In todays so called prophetic world, basically all of them would be laying dead somewhere. That is not my intent here.

The New Covenant of Christ which thoroughly replaced the dead and passed away old defunct covenant is totally different. In each believer the Holy Spirit of God resides. Isreal did not have that. The prophets of before did not have that. The Holy Spirit came upon them, but did not reside in them. Huge difference. In todays Christian Wolrld our being is intertwined with God in that indwelling. God desires intimacy with us.

The Holy Spirit is given to comfort the believer and to teach us all things as he choses to. The issue is whether or not we take the time to be with him and listen. Or do we go to the Carpet Salesman instead which is kinda dumb because we do not need to leave the house to hear from the Carpet maker himself.

Think about this, the word of the Holy Spirit for you resides in you if you will just take some time and listen to him. The way this is set up, anyone with prophetic gifting should only be a confirmation of what God is already telling you instead of the lead information. Do you see what I am saying?

Each and every one of us has everything we will ever need with the Holy Spirit residing in us. There is a scripture that states there is a place when man is no longer needed as a teacher. Maturity should be the aim of the believer as well as the teacher of the word.
