Why Gather in Jesus name? Has it changed?

Before Jesus gave atonement for the world on the cross, there was a pool. People would wait there for an Angel to stir the waters and it was a sign to the people that if they got in the water they would be healed.

We do not need a pool or any Angel doing that anymore in the New Covenant of Christ. We pray for each other, and we anoint each other with oil as they did in the early Church. It is up to the Lord who is healed and who is not. Its about him and his Will in our lives and not about "he has to do something".

Once again, why do we gather in his name? It is to worship Him and to share his wonders and his Glorious Gospel. A completed work that no man must or should ever add to.

There are dangerous concepts that have no biblical basis to them whatsoever. Do you receive your Glory from who he is or what he could do for you.

Opinions and experiences do not matter. What matters is how he expresses himself through his word. Opinions and experiences deceive, especially when they do not line up with God's word.

In the early church for 327 years after Christ, they met in peoples homes in many cases almost every day. They shared they sang and the prayed for each other as the Holy Spirit lead.

These are the things that you will find in the scriptures. But there are things today that go on that you will not find.

It is supposed to be about him, and not about our needs or wants. He meets all of our needs according to his riches and glory in Christ Jesus. But its not about us. Me make it more about us and thats where we end up with some really whacked out things. It is also where some people get eaten up by wrong influences.

Let me give you an example. The Prophetic. Its the fad in the last 50 years to teach people to be prophetic or to have meetings to "speak" words supposedly of God over people. You will not find anything like this in the New testament, yet people do it. It is dangerous.

Why do I say that? The same Holy Spirit of God resides in every born again believer in Jesus Christ. None is more anointed than another. Gifting different? Perhaps. But the Holy Spirit is there to comfort you and teach you all things. A mature believer needs no man teach him. They should be receiving from the Holy Spirit on a daily basis.

In the Old Covenant, the Holy Spirit did not indwell. The Prophetic was totally different. The Prophet was a seer that spoke God's word. If what they said did not come to pass, they were killed.

A prophet today should be confirming what the Holy Spirit has already told a person and not backwards like these meetings have it. The danger is that a person is seeking out a fallible man instead of just spending time with the Holy Spirit themselves as the design of the New Covenant of Christ is.

The so called Prophetic meetings are in essence a form of controls and christian witchcraft. Words spoken are usually soulish and a supposed benefit. Others are controlling as to what a person needs to do.

It should for the most part only be a confirmation. Something God has already spoken.

It is the same thing for a so called healing service. They didn't meet for that reason. They do today. Why? The meetings are supposed to be about Jesus. Healing is an overflow of a basic worship and sharing(fellowship) It falls under part of the fellowship.

You cant conjure up healing because thats the reason you meet. The recent deal with the Florida outpouring has produced many people trying to validate the vast claims of things, and it is not verifiable.

It is not because God does not heal or can not, because he does everyday. But your life in Christ should not be the focus of whether or not you are healed.

When you speak of having the right attitude to receive etc, you are talking more New Age theory than you are scripture. God is not a respecter of men. He will heal who he wants and when he wants. Some of the most important things happened through imperfection. There is only one perfect and it is not any of us.

Why do you gather? Hopes of signs and wonders? God tells us not to look or depend on those things. An unbalanced person will concentrate on that.

I have to ask them, do you love God for the things he can do for you, or do you love him for who he is. God is Love. I would hope you would be in the latter group.

Blessings

Dennis

I enjoyed reading your latest posting and you're right on target. Like you I've been concerned in recent years of some of the more Self Oriented Christian movements within the Church Body. There's just too much focus on the experience rather than the focus being on giving of ourselves in praise to our Heavenly Father. In the New Testament writings, we're called to die to self daily so we can be more like Jesus. He is our ultimate example of Selflessness because He came down to our level to die for our sins and defeat death by His Resurrection on the third day. This is what we should be striving for as believers. To live for Him everyday and not for selfish pursuits. Hopefully all of that made sense. I just noticed Debee touched on a similar theme in her comment.

thank you for your reply. I agree with you. The leaders behind it come up with teaching that exonerate them from being tested.
