A Covenant With My Eyes...(8th in a series)

How may we ever as men hope to aspire to purity and NOT be enticed? We look around today, and we are overwhelmed with images (TV, films, work, grocery store, even church) of women and how they look. Clothing and fashion as a whole does alot to accentuate a woman's figure and society as a whole has made women more conscious of how they look and maintianing a "pleasing form" is a priority as a result with most women!

So as a Godly man (or men) how do we; being the visually stimulated beings we are, not become overwhelmed with lust and carnal thoughts? Let us begin by considering God's servant Job:

I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a woman. Job 31: 1

Uhhhh....yeah, and just how successful was 'ol Job at that, Sport? He must have been pretty successful as in verse 9 He further states:

If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or if I have lurked at my neighbor's door, then may my wife grind another man's grain, and may other men sleep with her. Job 31: 9

Job had been totally successful, or he could not have made this statement from his heart. He knew he had lived right, and he knew his eyes and mind were pure. He swore to it upon his wife and marriage before God and man.

I mean before discovering such verses as this, I though as a Christian man, at best; all I could ever hope for was to NOT act upon lust...but that I would forever be burdened by it. Lurking just beyond the light of my conscious mind it would wait for opportunity as lust is a motive unto itself! And opportunity is never far away...is it?!

But when I began to read of men like Job, I began to realize that to truly be a man, AND a man of God is to bring lust under subjection...it is well within my control and choice to either be enticed or not! But...the question here is; was I willing to pay the price not to put my self in a position to fail (myself and my God?!).

I know, I know....Whoa there cowboy, what do you mean price?!

Hey, you (we) as men, as husbands and fathers pay a price everyday:

It costs something to insist your dress modestly; it costs alot to make them think modestly and nicely.

It costs something to send your to Christian school for them to be taught about God by others; It costs alot to have regular family devotions, complete with Dad leading the worship and heartfelt prayer.

It costs something as a Christian man to go to conferences and join other Christian men Praising God and learn how to live like a Christian and a man; it costs alot to come home and remain committed to the changes we said we would make.

It costs something to avoid Playboy magazine; it costs alot to control your eyes and your mind DAILY.

It costs something to learn about Christ...but, it costs alot to live like Christ. Amen?

And the cost of success here requires me (we) to not let my (our)eyes fall on places and people (and places on people) that are going to put me in a position of failure, not just to myself...but to my God. His Word says that we can have victory over such as this, but we have the sole choice here to succeed in that or not! If we fail...the failure is ours, not God's! Make no mistake about it; He has given us the means to succeed...but if we choose to go our own way, then we shall truly reap the harvest of that choice!

And those choices include more than just what my eyes may see:

I cannot be snared by the words of my mouth nor be found in the company of those who would speak of or joke degradingly about women and/or sexual intimacy. You will be like those things you associate with...we have the power of life and death in our tongue...we essentially curse ourselves and our families by being found to be associated with such idle speech!

And let us consider this aspect. Every woman, and every man is promised to someone in marriage by God (unless they are not...in which case this article is not an issue anyway)and when we even THINK about them in a lustful way...we are robbing them of that which has been promised to another by God himself!

It does not matter whether we or they have been chaste to that point or not...before the begining of the world we have all been promised to someone as a spouse...and just the thought of lust (not even an actual act of "the word that cannot be spoken here"...just the thought of it) is a form of "assault" to the person we think about and burglary of the worst magnitude to the person they are promised to!?

We would all do well to remember this as our intimacy is essentially not even ours to give, but God's!? Think about it...I know people who would pray and ask God if they could have a soda with lunch, and they would never give a second thought to considering God when it comes to "the word that cannot be spoken here" intimacy?! How crazy is that?

I wrote in a post a long time ago, that we (as men) should look at all women as their mother or sister, because in the end every woman is some man's mother or sister! And that; when all else fails will douse a fella's candle wick quicker than anything!

We are capable of success in this aspect of our lives. And it opens alot more of what we may experience in life. Drawing us into a deeper calling with God; a greater appreciation for this: all of creation! And a greater appreciation for ourselves; these He has set all of creation before to rule and to reign!

We are much more than we give ourselves credit for!

Hey,, thank you for these words of wisdom. To read these words coming from a gentleman who is working toward being a better man in Gods eyes is truly inspiring.
It does make sense here to me, and I'm sure these words are also for women as well. This area does seem a little lax in our society, I continue to pray that we as adults will teach the little ones to be more aware of this, as our society grows.
Question: What happened to part 7? hopefully others got to read that as well! lol
peace

Angel looking 4 her wings.. I will loosen myself from what has held me in the past, and from all the things that claw at my soul and threaten to pull it away from Gods purpose.

In Him, I need never worry.

God is great‒be thankful
